TAR 28 Recap Leg 5, 3-11-16

Welcome to Leg 5! Last time, on Remind ME Again What Country Switzerland Is In, 9 teams flew on the same flight from Colombia to Switzerland. #Blodie was established, and the Detour was Steady versus Accuracy. Teams had to know their flags in order to catch trains to the Pit Stop in Chamonix, which ended in 8 teams pretty much vying for first place, and the models Brittany and Jessica being eliminated. Arrival at the pit stop last episode:

Teams are given winter gear, presumably because they will be going up in the mountains, considering that we are in Chamonix, host of the first Winter Olympics in 1924. (Toyouke: “Why are these people getting free stuff? Dumb.”)

Clue: Search the streets of Chamonix for a car with one of eight provided license plates (Toyouke: “Yay! Drive yourself!”) and have the driver take you to Les Grands Montets Gondola Station to get your next clue. (Toyouke: “Boo! Drivers!”)

And the chiron operator gave up. But I’m going to surmise the times anyway.

So teams start searching the streets for their cars. Teams find them in the following order:

1- Brodie/Kurt

8- Erin/Joslyn

Teams now make their way with their car and driver to Les Grands Montets. And teams arrive in the following order:

1- Brodie/Kurt

2- Tyler/Korey

3- Burnie/Ashley

4- Dana/Matt

5- Sheri/Cole

6- Zach/Rachel

7- Scott/Blair

8- Erin/Joslyn

Teams are now instructed to make their way up the gondola to the summit of Les Grands Montets, part of the Mont Blanc massif. Teams are also instructed to pick up mountain equipment, a mountain guide, and a baguette. Teams get their gondolas in the following order:

Gondola 1

1) Brodie/Kurt

2) Tyler/Korey

Gondola 2

1) Burnie/Ashley

2) Dana/Matt

Gondola 3

1) Zach/Rachel

2) Scott/Blair

Gondola 4

1) Sheri/Cole – who neglected to pick up their mountain guide.

2) Erin/Joslyn

Teams arrive at the summit and get their next clue in the following order:

1- Brodie/Kurt

2- Tyler/Korey

3- Burnie/Ashley

4- Dana/Matt

5- Scott/Blair

6- Zach/Rachel

7- Sheri/Cole

8- Erin/Joslyn

Teams are now instructed to send one team member out on a suspension line to retrieve the next clue. Team members traverse the line in the following order:

1- Kurt
2- Korey

3- Ashley – who drops the first clue that she grabs down the ravine and has to go back.

4- Matt

5- Scott

6- Zach

7- Sheri

8- Joslyn

Teams return with the clue in the following order:

1- Brodie/Kurt

2- Tyler/Korey

3- Dana/Matt

4- Burnie/Ashley

5- Zach/Rachel

6- Scott/Blair

7- Erin/Joslyn

8- Sheri/Cole

And teams get the Detour Clue.

DETOUR:

Dynamite OR Campsite

*Dynamite: Teams collect a pair of dynamite sticks to carry down the mountainside and deliver them and the baguette to the explosive experts in order to create a controlled avalanche. Once the dynamite has been delivered, teams get their next clue.

*Campsite: Teams walk to an area where they must recreate a survival campsite using the provided example. Once the judge approves their work, teams get their next clue.

1- Brodie/Kurt choose Dynamite

2- Tyler/Korey choose Dynamite

3- Burnie/Ashley choose Campsite

4- Dana/Matt choose Dynamite – Dana: “I’m afraid!” (Toyouke: “I get that she's afraid but you can't just keep repeating "I'm afraid" and expect something to magically happen.”)

5- Zach/Rachel choose Dynamite

6- Scott/Blair choose Dynamite – and Blair falls on the path to the experts. She’s fine.

7- Erin/Joslyn choose Dynamite – who waste time by looking for the “lunch” they need to take with them. They manage to find Phil’s lunch instead. Thankfully, someone let tem know.

8- Sheri/Cole choose Dynamite

Much dynamite carrying and campsite recreating ensues. So, teams complete the detour in the following order:

1- Brodie/Kurt

2- Tyler/Korey

3- Dana/Matt

4- Zach/Rachel

5- Scott/Blair

6- Erin/Joslyn

7- Burnie/Ashley

8- Sheri/Cole

Teams are instructed to take the gondola back down the mountain, find their driver, and have them take the team to Plan Praz Gondola Station, where teams will get their next clue. After doing all that via the Amazing Yellow Line, they arrive in the following order:

1- Brodie/Kurt

2- Tyler/Korey

3- Dana/Matt

4- Zach/Rachel

5- Scott/Blair

6- Erin/Joslyn

7- Burnie/Ashley

8- Sheri/Cole

And teams get the fifth roadblock clue.

ROADBLOCK:

Who feels the wind beneath their wings?

In this roadblock, one team member must ride the gondola to the top of Aiguille Verte and paraglide back down 7000 feet to the ground. En route, teams must spot a yeti, and answer a question about the nationality of the flag he is waving (French). Once the question is answered, teams get their next clue.

The following teammates take the Roadblock:

After much running in snow and spotting French flags, teams complete the Roadblock in the following order:

7- Burnie/Ashley

8- Erin/Joslyn

Teams find now that they must make their way to the Dr/ Michel-Gabriel Paccard Statue, the PIT STOP of the fifth leg of this racearoundtheworld. The last team to arrive WILL be eliminated!

1- Tyler/Korey – who win a trip for two to Boracay Island in the Philippines.

2- Brodie/Kurt

3- Dana/Matt

4- Scott/Blair

5- Zach/Rachel

6- Burnie/Ashley

7- Sheri/Cole

8- Erin/Joslyn

And Erin and Joslyn are eliminated. They were blown away at how unreal and breathtaking the race truly was. (Toyouke: “Whatever. I mean I feel kind of bad because running in deep snow is hard, but I also don't feel bad because there was so much time wasted on not understanding the clue.”)
