TAR 28 Recap Leg 4, 3-4-16

Welcome to Leg 4! Last time, on Maybe You Should Talk to the Person Who Gave You the Clue Before You Lose, 10 teams kept racing through Colombia. Tyler and Korey somehow leapt into the lead, while Zach and Rachel start to implode, because they can’t count. But it’s Brodie and Kurt who retake the top spot, and Darius and Cameron who get eliminated after being unable to find the person with their Roadblock clue. Sigh. Who will be eliminated. . . next? We are reminded that teams have been fairly spread out for a while, so the front teams haven’t really been able to interact with the back teams. (Toyouke: "Well they COULD have done except you felt Eat/Sleep/Mingle was unimportant.") As a result, Brodie and Blair haven’t been able to hang out, and it’s making the other teams anxious to ship them. And Blair apparently has a little crush. Whatever, people.

Clue: Fly to Geneva, Switzerland! Take the prebooked flight to get there. Once there, find the Jet d’Eau to get your next clue.

So teams make their way to Rafael Nuñez International Airport. Teams arrive in the following order:

2- Tyler/Korey – who officially declare Brodie and Blair as #blodie. Pronounced blow-dee.

4- Dana/Matt

5- Brittany/Jessica – Jessica: “What country is Switzerland in?”

8- Scott/Blair

9- Zach/Rachel

Teams are now all on the same flight to Switzerland. And the Amazing Yellow line takes use straight to Geneva International Airport. And teams leave the airport in the following order:

5- Burnie/Ashley

6- Brodie/Kurt

Teams now make their way to the Jet d’Eau, and appear to be running. Teams arrive in the following order:

Teams are now instructed to make their way on foot to Chocolats Rohr. Many teams go to the wrong entrance or the wrong store, and as a result the order gets shuffled. When teams arrive, they hit Hours of Operation and pull tabs to enter the next morning in the following order:

3- Sheri/Cole

4- Zach/Rachel

5- Tyler/Korey

7- Brittany/Jessica

So teams find lodging for the night in what looks like a church basement. And Brodie and Blair snuggle. (Toyouke: "The obsession with Brodie and Blair is kind of uncomfortable. Slow your roll with the IRL shipping, you guys. Also Blair's dad is like RIGHT THERE.")

ANYWAY, teams wake up the next morning and head back to Chocolats Rohr and get their next clue in the following order:

7- Brittany/Jessica

8- Brodie/Kurt

Teams get a box of chocolates which contains the Detour Clue.

DETOUR:

Work Bench OR Bench Work

*Work Bench: Teams make their way to the Victorinox flagship store and put together their most famous model of Swiss Amy Knife from scratch. Once the knife has been approved by the attendant and get their next clue. Only three workstations are available at a time.

*Bench Work: Teams travel to Promenade de la Treille to find the world’s largest park bench. Teams get newspapers from a local vendor and then use it to figure out how many people could sit side by side on the bench. Once teams give the correct number within a range (190-197), the newspaper vendor would give them their next clue.

1- Burnie/Ashley choose Bench Work – who do an excellent job of talking to the people on the bench and letting them know what’s going on. Including the two chess players. (Toyouke: "Yeah, an awfully high number of people who refuse to walk ten feet to a bench without annoying Americans. Suspicious.")

2- Zach/Rachel choose Work Bench

3- Tyler/Korey choose Work Bench

4- Scott/Blair choose Work Bench

5- Dana/Matt choose Bench Work

6- Brodie/Kurt choose Bench Work

7- Erin/Joslyn choose Bench Work

8- Sheri/Cole choose Bench Work

9- Brittany/Jessica choose Bench Work – only after they couldn’t find the Victorinox store (Which they walked right past).

Much bench sitting and knife making ensues. So, teams complete the detour in the following order:

Teams are instructed to make their way to the Broken Chair sculpture. After taking the bus, tram, or simply just running, they arrive in the following order:

1- Tyler/Korey

2- Brodie/Kurt

3- Burnie/Ashley

4- Sheri/Cole

5- Dana/Matt

6- Zach/Rachel

7- Scott/Blair

8- Erin/Joslyn

9- Brittany/Jessica

And teams get the fourth roadblock clue.

ROADBLOCK:

Who’s having a banner day?

In this roadblock, one team member must enter the grounds of the Palace of Nations and identify the 10 flags representing the 10 original United Nations Founding Members. Teams use the provided map to find the flags and then tear them out of the provided flag book to hand to the attendant. Once the attendant approves, teams get their next clue.

(Toyouke: "The intelligence level of these teams is too low for this task.") 

The following teammates take the Roadblock:

9- Jessica – who is butthurt because no one will work with her. (Toyouke: "No alliances! Race!")

After much finding of flags, teams complete the Roadblock in the following order:

6- Scott/Blair

7- Erin/Joslyn

Teams find now that they must make their way to the Place du Triangle de l’Amitié in Chamonix, France by train, the PIT STOP of the fourth leg of this racearoundtheworld. The last team to arrive WILL be eliminated!

So teams get on trains in the following order:

Train 1

2) Sheri/Cole

3) Brodie/Kurt

Train 2

1) Tyler/Korey

2) Dana/Matt

3) Erin/Joslyn

4) Zach/Rachel

Train 3

So, apparently, there are two stops on the way to Chamonix from Genève-Cornavin station, Martigny and Vallorcine. Teams make their way to Martigny, where the first and second train meet to wait to go to Vallorcine. Once they get to Vallorcine, there is an hour wait for the train to leave, and Brittany and Jessica show up, but instead of running to catch the train to Chamonix, they are left behind. (Toyouke: "It wasn't necessary to hide on the floor of the train so the models wouldn't see you, but that was entertaining.") So teams arrive in Chamonix and make their way to the Place du Triangle de l’Amitié in the following order:

1- Brodie/Kurt – who win $3000 each.

2- Tyler/Korey

3- Dana/Matt

4- Burnie/Ashley

5- Zach/Rachel

6- Erin/Joslyn

7- Sheri/Cole

8- Scott/Blair

And Brittany and Jessica are surprisingly eliminated. They are happy they raced together.
