Welcome to Leg 9! Last time, on The Greatest Comeback Story Ever, 6 teams continued racing through Bulgaria. Alyssa and Josiah went for the Express Pass, which required them to walk on hot coals. Carson and Jack were able to make up a 90 minute delay while Han and Holden struggled. Brett and Mark finished first, while Melinda and Erika were eliminated. Who will be eliminated. . . next? During the Pit Stop, teams booked their flights and hotels using the Expedia App.

Clue: Fly to Naples, Italy! Once there, make your way by taxi to the Stazione di Montesanto and ride the funicular to Castel Sant’Elmo to get your next clue.

2:03 AM Alyssa/Josiah (2nd)

2:05 AM Jonathan/Ana (3rd)

3:30 AM Carson/Jack (4th)

3:48 AM Han/Holden (5th)

Teams arrive at the airport in the following order:

1- Brett/Mark
2- Alyssa/Josiah
3- Jonathan/Ana

4- Carson/Jack

5- Han/Holden

Teams find out that they are all on the same flight to Naples. The Amazing Yellow Line takes us there, and teams arrive in the following order:

1- Brett/Mark

2- Han/Holden

3- Carson/Jack

4- Jonathan/Ana

5- Alyssa/Josiah

Teams make their way to Stazione di Montesanto to catch the funicular and arrive in the following order:

1- Brett/Mark

2- Jonathan/Ana

3- Alyssa/Josiah

4- Carson/Jack

5- Han/Holden

Teams all make it to the station at the same time and ride the same funicular to the top. When they exit, they make their way to the top of Castel Sant’Elmo. Teams arrive and get their clues in the following order:

1- Han/Holden

2- Jonathan/Ana

3- Brett/Mark

4- Carson/Jack – Jack: “We put the fun in funicular!”

5- Alyssa/Josiah

Teams are now instructed to make their way back down the funicular and make their way to Via dei Tribunali, where they wil find a statue of Pulcinella. Teams must run Pulcinella’s nose for good luck in order to get their clues from the real Pulcinella. Teams board the funicular in the following order:

Funicular 1

1) Han/Holden

2) Jonathan/Ana

Funicular 2

1) Brett/Mark

2) Carson/Jack

3) Alyssa/Josiah

Teams arrive at the statue and get their clue in the following order:

1- Brett/Mark

2- Carson/Jack

3- Alyssa/Josiah

4- Jonathan/Ana

5- Han/Holden

Teams open their clues and we get the sixth Detour Clue.

DETOUR:

Mandolin OR Mozzarella

*Mandolin: Teams make their way to Liuteria Anema e Corde and assemble a mandolin in order to get their next clue.

*Mozzarella: Teams make their way to Palazzo Marigliano and find the cheese makers to braid six mozzarella strings, each weighing between 250 and 350 grams. Once all six are approved, teams get their next clue.

1- Carson/Jack choose Mozzarella

2- Brett/Mark choose Mozzarella

3- Jonathan/Ana choose Mandolin – Jonathan: “This is perfect for us because I love music.” (Toyouke: “Liking music doesn't mean you can build an instrument.”)

4- Alyssa/Josiah choose Mozzarella

5- Han/Holden choose Mozzarella

(Toyouke: “This Detour does seem lopsided.”) Much mandolin building and cheese braiding ensues. So, teams complete the detour in the following order:

1- Carson/Jack
2- Brett/Mark

3- Jonathan/Ana

4- Alyssa/Josiah

5- Han/Holden

Teams are now instructed to make their way on foot to Vico 2 Montesanto in the Montesanto Quarter to get their next clue. Teams arrive at the clue box in the following order:

1- Jonathan/Ana
2- Brett/Mark

3- Carson/Jack

4- Alyssa/Josiah

5- Han/Holden

(Toyouke: “I think we have to add "reading a map" to "learn stick shift" and "do cardio" in the list of things to learn before coming on the Race. I think we just assumed people can read maps or have some sense of direction. But there's so much getting lost today.”) Teams are now instructed to find a red and yellow flower marked balcony, where the owner will lower a bucket with money and a shopping list. Teams must go to three different shops to pick up vegetables, meat and bread, and then return the items to the bucket, which will contain a clue when they are correct. Teams complete the task in the following order:

1- Jonathan/Ana
2- Brett/Mark
– Mark: “All we wanted to do in Naples was drink cappuccino and eat pizza.” (Toyouke: “Oh, for the days of Team Cha Cha Cha and a Starbucks run.”)

3- Carson/Jack

4- Alyssa/Josiah

5- Han/Holden – (Toyouke: “OK I know we're playing up the language barrier but if Han knows enough French to ask to speak in French she can figure out "panelle". Or when he says "panelle no here" like, cut your losses and find another store.”)

Teams are now instructed to travel by car to Ristorante di Ettore. Teams must make their way by foot to Piazza Olivella to get their marked car. Teams get their cars in the following order:

1- Brett/Mark

2- Jonathan/Ana

3- Carson/Jack

4- Alyssa/Josiah

5- Han/Holden

Teams are now being driven to Ristorante di Ettore. Teams arrive and get their clues in the following order:

1- Brett/Mark

2- Carson/Jack

3- Jonathan/Ana

4- Alyssa/Josiah

5- Han/Holden

Teams open their clues and come to the tenth roadblock.

ROADBLOCK:
Who’s felling saucy?

In this roadblock, one team member must make a Neapolitan Margherita pizza from scratch. Once completed correctly, the pizza maker will give them their correctly made pizza and their next clue.

(Toyouke: “Is this an elaborate plan for Phil to get pizza delivered to him?”) The following team members complete the Roadblock.

1- Brett
2- Carson
– who is the self-proclaimed worst cook ever. (Toyouke: “I get you have to keep your Roadblock numbers right, but maybe if Carson is saying he's the worst cook this is a bad idea.”)
3- Ana –
who used to work for Dominos.

4- Alyssa

5- Han

After much pizza making (and the non-Roadblockers eating the rejected ones (Toyouke: “OK also it's not fair that the people not doing the Roadblock get to eat.”)), teams complete the Roadblock in the following order:

1- Jonathan/Ana – (Toyouke: “Ana killed it. And Jonathan is telling her she's doing a good job so that's something.”)
2- Brett/Mark
3- Alyssa/Josiah

4- Carson/Jack

5- Han/Holden – (Toyouke: “This feels like one of those situations where the judges are very picky until you're last, and then they kind of don't care as much. Like when they let a questionable dance attempt through.”)

Teams are now instructed to make their way on foot to Castel Nuovo, the PIT STOP of the ninth leg of this racearoundtheworld. The last team to arrive MAY be eliminated!

1- Jonathan/Ana – who 1 Key Cash for a trip for two to Mexico City.

2- Brett/Mark

3- Alyssa/Josiah

4- Carson/Jack

5- Han/Holden

So Han and Holden are the last team to arrive. But in a surprising twist, this is a non-elimination leg and they are still in the Race! This is the first Non-Elimination Leg since TAR32. They will have to perform a Speed Bump on the next leg, however. (Probably.)

ORDER NOW:

1st – Jonathan/Ana

2nd – Brett/Mark

3rd – Alyssa/Josiah

4th – Carson/Jack

5th – Han/Holden

Next week: Off to France we go! Jonathan and Ana butt heads. Again. And we have a Head-To-Head task that involves jousting in water. Until next time!
