Welcome to Leg 12! Last time, on I Should Just Yell At My Wife The Whole Time, 4 teams raced from Strasbourg to Porto. Carson and Jack, who got to be knights for a day, finished first, and Han and Holden kept their relationship strong and finished second. A misstep by Alyssa and Josiah at the train station put them on the same train as Jonathan and Ana, who passed them to finish third, and Alyssa and Josiah were eliminated. And then there were three: Carson and Jack, the gay Dungeons and Dragon streamers and best friends who have come back from being over an hour behind all the other teams and have four first place legs under their belts; Han and Holden, the siblings that have never won a leg, but their good natured sibling relationship always keeps them in the game; and Jonathan and Ana, the married couple who always seem to be in an argument, but have finished first on three legs and are generally strong at finishing tasks. Who will win The Amazing Race 37? (click for more)
Arrival at the pit stop last episode:
1st – Carson and Jack, Team DND Gaymers
2nd – Han and Holden, Team Sibling Rivalry
3rd – Jonathan and Ana, Team California Fitness
Cais de Gaia, Douro River, Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal
11:51 AM Carson/Jack (1st)
Clue: Fly to your FINAL DESTINATION CITY: Miami, Florida, USA! Once there, make your way to Crandon Park Marina to get your next clue. You have $200 for this leg of the race.
12:42 PM Han/Holden (2nd)
12:53 PM Jonathan/Ana (3rd)
Teams make their way by taxi to the airport and arrive in the following order:
1- Carson/Jack
2- Han/Holden
3- Jonathan/Ana – who take time in the airport to get maps of Miami.
Teams all get on the same flight to Miami in Business Class. Teams arrive via Amazing Yellow Line in Miami in the following order:
1- Carson/Jack
2- Han/Holden
3- Jonathan/Ana
Teams get taxis and travel to Crandon Park Marina. Teams arrive at the clue box in the following order:
1- Carson/Jack – who manage to get their taxi first. (Toyouke: "Were you stealthy? Because I think everyone saw you.”)
2- Jonathan/Ana
3- Han/Holden
Teams are now instructed to travel by Cigarette Boat to Maurice Gibb Memorial Park in Miami Beach in order to get their next clue. (Toyouke: “OK so the bootleg Miami Vice music is appropriate.”) Teams arrive at the clue box in the following order:
1- Carson/Jack
2- Jonathan/Ana
3- Han/Holden
Teams rip open their clue and find their next task, the Scramble.
SCRAMBLE:
SAIL / SOAR / SAVE
*Sail: Teams drive themselves to the Coral Reef Yacht Club and learn how to sail an Optimist dinghy by watching a silent demonstration from students. Once they have control of the boat, teams navigate around six buoys surrounding a small island. Once completed, the instructor will give them their next clue.
*Soar: Teams drive themselves to Venetian Marina and Yacht Club. Once there, teams find the final roadblock, where one team member must stay aloft on a Flyboard for 60 consecutive seconds. Once complete, teams receive their next clue.
*Save: Teams drive themselves to South Pointe Park in Miami Beach and perform a lifeguard rescue training exercise. One team member drives the watercraft while the other one rescues a dummy attached to a buoy in the ocean. Teams then return to shore and deliver the dummy. Once complete, the lifeguard will give them their next clue.
Once teams have all three parts to the clue, they may travel to their next task, as presented on the clue.
Because it is hard to keep track of who goes where in what order, I’m going to tackle the Scramble task by task. I’ll also list which task this is for each team in parentheses when they arrive.
SAIL
Teams travel to the Coral Reef Yacht Club and arrive in the following order:
1- Carson/Jack (3) – and Jack went to sailing camp as a kid.
2- Han/Holden (3)
3- Jonathan/Ana (3)
Teams struggle to figure out how to said the dinghy, but improvise in many situations and make their way around the island and the six buoys. They get their clues in the following order:
1- Carson/Jack
2- Han/Holden
3- Jonathan/Ana
SOAR
Teams travel to Venetian Marina and Yacht Club and arrive in the following order:
1- Carson/Jack (2)
2- Han/Holden (2)
3- Jonathan/Ana (2) – who had decided to go to Sail second, but got lost and decided to go to Soar instead.
Teams open their clues and come to the thirteenth and final roadblock.
ROADBLOCK:
Who’s
ready to go above and beyond?
The following team members complete the Roadblock.
1-
Jack
2- Han
3- Ana –
who still have her fear of ocean water, but still finished in 21
attempts. (Toyouke: “OK
Ana did manage to get paired with the right coach, though. Can you
imagine if Jonathan could see her right now?”)
(Toyouke: “I am bored watching them fail a bunch, but at all times I'm waiting for them to suddenly do super well, like an editing trick. So everyone failing a bunch is anti-how the editing usually is.”) After much Flyboarding, teams complete the Roadblock in the following order:
1- Carson/Jack
2- Han/Holden
3- Jonathan/Ana – and Jonathan tells Ana how proud he is of her. (Toyouke: “Oh NOW we figured out how not to be an asshole. So you CAN be encouraging. HE DOES NOT HAVE YOUR BACK NO MATTER WHAT. I refuse to believe that because Jonathan figured out one time that maybe he shouldn't be an idiot, that means they are perfect for each other.”)
SAVE
Teams travel to South Pointe Park in Miami Beach and arrive in the following order:
1- Jonathan/Ana (1)
2- Carson/Jack (1)
3- Han/Holden (1)
Teams have no problems navigating the water to get their dummies, so they get their clues in the following order:
1- Jonathan/Ana
2- Carson/Jack
3- Han/Holden
Teams are now able to assemble their clue, which is a domino with eight pips and the word “calle” on it. This is to direct teams to Domino Park on Calle Ocho in Little Havana. (Toyouke: “This clue is AMAZING. Please make them play dominos.”) Teams finish the scramble and get their clue in the following order:
1- Carson/Jack
2- Han/Holden
3- Jonathan/Ana
Teams arrive at Domino Park in the following order:
1- Carson/Jack
2- Han/Holden – after Han hit a car. (Toyouke: “I don't like that they kind of weaseled out of that accident.”)
3- Jonathan/Ana
Teams are now instructed to drive themselves to Ice Palace Film Studios to get their next clue. Teams arrive in the following order:
1- Carson/Jack
2- Han/Holden
3- Jonathan/Ana
Once they arrive, teams get the final task.
FINAL TASK:
Puzzled About The Amazing Race?
In this final task, both team members must solve a 100 piece three dimensional puzzle that includes spelling a phrase, putting pictures of each leg on the letters, and correctly identifying the twist on each leg and matching it with the corresponding leg. Once correct, teams get their next clue.
Letter, Leg, City, Country, Twist, Picture
Leg 1, Hong Kong: Fork In the Road, Tian Tan Buddha.
Leg 2, Osaka, Japan: Intersection, Taiko Drummers.
Leg 3, Kyoto, Japan: Express Pass, Kemari.
Leg 4, Kubu, Indonesia: Driver’s Seat, Kuber Waterfall.
Leg 5, Nusa Dua, Indonesia: Live Double U-Turn, Surfboards.
Leg 6, Dubai, United Arab Emirates: Fast Forward, Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve.
Leg 7, Elin Pelin, Bulgaria: Double U-Turn, Kukeri Dancers.
Leg 8, Sofia, Bulgaria: Express Pass, Horo Dancers.
Leg 9, Naples, Italy: Non-Elimination Leg, Il Capitano.
Leg 10, Strasbourg, France: Head to Head, Cathedrale Notre-Dame de Strasbourg.
Leg 11, Porto, Portugal: Valet Roulette, Ferdinand Magellan.
Leg 12, Miami, Florida, USA: Scramble, Domino.
(Toyouke: “I am so glad they went back to a memory puzzle. I mean this seems excessive, but still. OK but going behind the letters so you can keep the pictures in place? That's very smart.”) Much puzzle solving ensues. Teams complete the task in the following order:
1- Carson/Jack
2- Han/Holden
3- Jonathan/Ana
Teams find now that they must drive to LoanDepot Park, home of the Miami Marlins, the FINISH LINE of this racearoundtheworld. The first team to arrive will WIN the Amazing Race!
