TAR 28 Recap Leg 8, 4-15-16

Welcome to Leg 8! Last time, on Make Sure You Grab Your Bag Before Racing, 7 teams traveled to Tbilisi, Georgia. There was much failing at the Detour, but they Ashley pulled ahead in a dancing Roadblock, only to be navigated to the wrong location for the Pit Stop. Zach and Rachel managed to place first, while Scott accidentally stole Tyler’s bag, setting up a foot race to the mat, ultimately lost by Scott and Blair, who were eliminated. Arrival at the pit stop last episode:

The Bridge of Peace, Rike Park, Tbilisi, Georgia

(Toyouke: “What is this oh-so-casual sitting around on the steps? Dumb.”) Tyler and Korey walk in as the last place team, and Brodie hugs Blair before they leave to be sequestered. Oh darn, no more Blodie.

10:39 PM Zach/Rachel (1st)

Clue: Fly to Dubai, United Arab Emirates! Once there, find the marked cars and drive yourselves to Al Faqa to find the Bedouin Camp and get the Travelocity Roaming Gnome and your next clue.

10:42 PM Burnie/Ashley (2nd)

10:45 PM Brodie/Kurt (3rd)

10:52 PM Dana/Matt (4th)

11:21 PM Sheri/Cole (5th)

1:17 AM Tyler/Korey (6th)

So teams make their way to Tbilisi International Airport. Teams arrive in the following order:

1- Dana/Matt

2- Tyler/Korey

3- Burnie/Ashley

4- Zach/Rachel

5- Sheri/Cole

6- Brodie/Kurt

All the teams are on the flight to Dubai. Surprise. The Amazing Orange Line takes teams to Dubai where they arrive in the following order:

1- Tyler/Korey

2- Sheri/Cole

3- Dana/Matt

4- Burnie/Ashley

5- Zach/Rachel

6- Brodie/Kurt

Teams get in the marked cars and drive to Al Faqa. They arrive at the Bedouin Camp in the following order:

1- Tyler/Korey

2- Zach/Rachel

3- Burnie/Ashley

4- Brodie/Kurt

5- Dana/Matt

6- Sheri/Cole – who miss their exit leaving the airport and get lost.

Teams arrive at the camp and receive a traditional blessing and their gnomes. Tyler: “There will be lots of time to get to gno . . . me.”

And teams get the Detour Clue.

DETOUR:

Races OR Oasis

*Races: Teams drive themselves to Al Marmoum and find the Dubai Camel Race Track. Once there, teams race bikes against professional racing camels. If teams beat the camels, they get their next clue. IF not, teams must race the camels again, but with a head start.

*Oasis: Teams remain at Al Faqa and pick up 4 camels to walk to a Bedouin Oasis. Once there, teams partake of their hospitality and get their next clue.

(Toyouke: “Wait, if you fail the camel race the first time you get a handicap? Not "try until you succeed"? WTF is that!?!”)

1- Burnie/Ashley choose Races– and fail on the longer race. Ashley is out of breath, so they Bald Snark to Oasis.

2- Tyler/Korey choose Races – and fail on the first race, but take the head start and succeed.

3- Dana/Matt choose Oasis – and Dana complains the whole time.

4- Brodie/Kurt choose Races – and manage to beat the camels on the first try.

5- Zach/Rachel choose Oasis – and fail on their first race. When pressed, Rachel explains that she dislikes speed. There is a dumb argument about this (Toyouke: “Rachel and Zach are finally distinguishing themselves by having a dumb fight. She's right though, I thought she was pretty clear about not wanting to do it.”), but they Bald Snark and go to Oasis. Rachel: "Are you a good camel?" (Toyouke: “Well he's wearing a muzzle so I'm going to go with no.”)

6- Sheri/Cole choose Races – and get it on the head start.

Much camel racing and sand walking ensues. So, teams complete the detour in the following order:

1- Brodie/Kurt

2- Tyler/Korey

3- Dana/Matt

4- Burnie/Ashley

5- Zach/Rachel

6- Sheri/Cole

Teams are instructed to drive themselves to the Palm Jumeirah at the Atlantis Resort and find Aquaventure. After much getting lost thanks to self navigation, they arrive in the following order:

1- Brodie/Kurt

2- Burnie/Ashley

3- Dana/Matt

4- Tyler/Korey - and know where they are. (Toyouke: “I love that there are racers who recognize where they are and know why the slide is famous.”)

5- Zach/Rachel

6- Sheri/Cole

And teams get the eighth roadblock clue.

ROADBLOCK:

**No Question Stated**

In this roadblock, one team member must swim in the giant shark tank and pick up a puzzle. When they exit the pool, they must solve the puzzle. Once completed correctly, teams get their next clue.

The following teammates take the Roadblock:

1- Brodie – but they fails spectacularly on the puzzle, so they choose to use the Express Pass. (Toyouke: ”Hey what is with wearing trunks under your gold shorts? Weak sauce. I think I am OK with this Express Pass usage. The puzzle is dumb and then you don't have to deal with it.”)
2- Burnie – who figures out the puzzle and runs off. (Toyouke: “Bernie doesn't have to tell you how to solve anything. At least he didn't tell you the wrong thing.”)

3- Dana

4- Korey

5- Zach

6- Cole

After much shark interaction and puzzle solving, teams complete the Roadblock in the following order:

1- Brodie/Kurt

2- Burnie/Ashley

3- Tyler/Korey

4- Zach/Rachel

5- Dana/Matt

6- Sheri/Cole

Teams are now instructed to make their way to Poseidon’s Revenge, the newest waterslide at the park, not to be confused with the waterslide from TAR 15, Leg 6, which the teams remembered! If you forgot, Mika and Canaan, lost because Mika would not go down the slide. (Toyouke: “WHAT'S UP MIKA AND CANAAN Thank God this is actually a "memorable moment" or we'd need another Top Ten.“) Anyway, teams go down the slide to get their next clue. Teams reach the bottom in the following order:

1- Brodie/Kurt

2- Burnie/Ashley

3- Tyler/Korey

4- Zach/Rachel

5- Dana/Matt

6- Sheri/Cole

Teams now drive themselves to Dubai Creek and take an abra across to Old Souq Station, the PIT STOP of the eighth leg of this racearoundtheworld. The last team to arrive WILL be eliminated!

1- Brodie/Kurt – who win a trip for two to Helsinki, Finland.

2- Burnie/Ashley

3- Tyler/Korey – and Tyler tries to use the Bedouin greeting on Phil. (Toyouke: “Oh, Tyler. I love you but you are not exempt from my rule of "DO NOT ACCOST PHIL"”)

4- Zach/Rachel

5- Dana/Matt – who have a meltdown over directions on the way. (Toyouke: “I don't get how he thinks she's not helping. She has directions. I mean I guess they don't make sense but I'm not sure how that's her fault?”)

6- Sheri/Cole

And Sheri and Cole are the last team to arrive. But this the third of the three Non-Elimination Legs and they are still in the race. They will have to complete a Speed Bump on the next leg.
