TAR 38, Recap Leg 5, 10/22/25

 

Welcome to Leg 4! Last time, on The Amazing Race European Hungarian Escape, 10 teams raced to Budapest, Hungary. Jas and Jag start to butt heads with Izzy and Paige. Tucker and Eric won a Rubik’s Cube Fast Forward, while Kyland and Taylor moved from the back of the pack to the front. Simone struggled at the Roadblock, but it was ultimately Kat and Alex who fell behind and were eliminated. Who will be eliminated. . . next? (click for more)

Clue: Fly to Dubrovnik, Croatia! Once there, make your way on foot to the Monument of Ivan Gundulic to get your next clue.

Hannah/Simone (6th)

Joseph/Adam (7th) – who remind us about the Trainwreck Alliance, but also how they want to help Hannah and Simone.

Teams make their way to Budapest International Airport. Teams arrive in the following order:

1- Tucker/Eric

2- Natalie/Stephanie

3- Izzy/Paige

4- Kristine/Rubina

5- Hannah/Simone

6- Joseph/Adam

7- Jas/Jag

8- Kyland/Taylor

9- Jack/Chelsie

Teams now book their flights, but there’s only one flight to Dubrovnik, and all the teams get on. So, we take the Amazing Yellow Line to Dubrovnik, Croatia, and arrive in the following order:

1- Jack/Chelsie

2- Izzy/Paige

3- Hannah/Simone

4- Tucker/Eric

5- Jas/Jag

6- Kyland/Taylor

7- Kristine/Rubina

8- Joseph/Adam

9- Natalie/Stephanie

Teams now make their way to the Monument of Ivan Gundulic. When teams arrive, they get their clue in the following order:

1- Joseph/Adam

2- Kyland/Taylor

3- Izzy/Paige

4- Tucker/Eric – who ask for the cab driver’s map, which he gives them. (Toyouke: “You could have bought a map at the airport and then the cabbie could have kept his.”)

5- Jas/Jag

6- Hannah/Simone

7- Kristine/Rubina

8- Natalie/Stephanie

9- Jack/Chelsie

Teams open their clues and we get the third Detour Clue.

DETOUR:

Fisherman Haul OR Skin ‘Em All

*Fisherman Haul: Teams make their way on foot to the Dubrovnik West Harbor. Once there, teams pick up a fisherman’s net that they must deliver to Old Port. Along the way, they must pick up a bucket of chum from Bota Sare. Once they arrive in Old Port with both items, the fisherman will give them their next clue.

*Skin ‘Em All: Teams make their way on foot directly to Old Port. Once there, teams must fillet two monkfish, one apiece, and be approved by the fisherman in order to get their next clue.

(Toyouke: “I feel like someone is going to cut themselves. Oh and you finish sort of in the same spot so you can see who is still there. ”)

1- Kyland/Taylor choose Skin ‘Em All – and Taylor lets us know she’s rather be on a yacht in a string bikini.

2- Izzy/Paige choose Skin ‘Em All

3- Natalie/Stephanie choose Skin ‘Em All

4- Kristine/Rubina choose Skin ‘Em All

5- Hannah/Simone choose Skin ‘Em All – who try and Bald Snark at one point, but can’t get directions to West Harbor, so they stay with Skin ‘Em All. (Toyouke: “Very rare that the Double Bald Snark happens because you can't find the other side of the Detour to do the initial Bald Snark.”)

6- Tucker/Eric choose Fisherman Haul

7- Jack/Chelsie choose Skin ‘Em All

8- Jas/Jag choose Fisherman Haul

9- Joseph/Adam choose Fisherman Haul

Much fish filleting and net carrying ensues. So, teams complete the detour in the following order:

1- Tucker/Eric

2- Jas/Jag

3- Joseph/Adam

4- Natalie/Stephanie

5- Kyland/Taylor

6- Izzy/Paige

7- Kristine/Rubina

8- Jack/Chelsie

9- Hannah/Simone

Teams are now instructed to make their way on foot to the hidden Buza Bar outside the city walls.

CAUTION: DOUBLE U-TURN AHEAD!

(Toyouke: “Wait the U-Turn is properly after the Detour?! So you have to be finished first?! OK I'm impressed.”) When they arrive, teams find the U-Turn.

This is a Double U-Turn. Teams may choose to U-turn any team they wish (well, the team has to be behind them), but they may only use the U-Turn once during the race. If a team is U-turned, they must go back to the Detour choices and complete the Detour that they did not complete. This U-Turn is doubled, meaning two teams may U-Turn two other teams. It is revealed that this is the first of two U-Turns there will be on this race.

1- Tucker/Eric choose not to use the U-Turn – (Toyouke: “Everyone thinking about if they're going to piss people off, as opposed to "Jas and Jag are really good racers and we managed to beat them here".”)

2- Natalie/Stephanie choose not to use the U-Turn

3- Jas/Jag choose to U-Turn Izzy/Paige – whom they don’t like anyway.

4- Joseph/Adam choose to U-Turn Kristine/Rubina – whom they view as a sacrifice and would prefer to keep Izzy and Paige in the race. (Toyouke: “OK, I would rather have "I like Izzy so I'm going to screw a super weak team" than "We'll U-Turn someone and then you waste the other U-Turn on us."”)

5- Kyland/Taylor cannot U-Turn – but Taylor thinks that it’s an active targeting of women for the boy teams to U-Turn the girl teams. (Toyouke: “I guess I can see how you would think "Oh, the men are trying to knock out the women" but like, let them do whatever and steal it from them later? Now they all know who you have it out for.”)

6- Jack/Chelsie cannot U-Turn

7- Kristine/Rubina are U-Turned and cannot U-Turn

8- Izzy/Paige are U-Turned and cannot U-Turn – who go to the wrong Buza Bar first and are no longer playing nice with Jas and Jag. (Toyouke: “Also I think when Jas and Jag said "Izzy would U-Turn us" I think that was true. "Why U-Turn people you can outrun?" means you think you can't win this race? Which I doubt.”)

9- Hannah/Simone cannot U-Turn – and also go to the wrong Buza Bar first.

So Kristine/Rubina and Izzy/Paige have been U-Turned and now must complete the other U-Turn option, which for both of them is Fisherman Haul.

Teams then leave the U-Turn in the following order:

1- Tucker/Eric
2- Natalie/Stephanie
3- Jas/Jag

4- Joseph/Adam

5- Kyland/Taylor

6- Jack/Chelsie

7- Hannah/Simone

8- Izzy/Paige

9- Kristine/Rubina – (Toyouke: “I like that Rubina and Kristine think they're a threat, when they were specifically U-Turned to be a sacrifice.”)

Teams are now instructed to travel on foot to Ploce Gate to get their next clue. Teams arrive in the following order:

1- Tucker/Eric
2- Jas/Jag
3- Joseph/Adam

4- Natalie/Stephanie

5- Kyland/Taylor

6- Jack/Chelsie

7- Hannah/Simone

8- Izzy/Paige

9- Kristine/Rubina

When teams open their clue, teams come to the sixth roadblock.

ROADBLOCK:
Who feels like everything’s going downhill?
In this roadblock, one team member must build a karice, a traditional Croatian racing kart, and then compete in a kart race based on one of eight events from the Dubrovnik Street Games. Once they make it to the finish line in 36 seconds or less, they will receive their next clue.

The following team members complete the Roadblock.

6- Chelsie – (Toyouke: “Is Chelsie not heavy enough or something?”)

7- Simone

8- Paige

9- Kristine

(Toyouke: “So no one is checking to make sure these karts they're building are built properly or safely?“) After much downhill racing, teams complete the Roadblock in the following order:

1- Tucker/Eric
2- Kyland/Taylor
3- Jas/Jag

4- Joseph/Adam

5- Natalie/Stephanie

6- Jack/Chelsie

7- Izzy/Paige

8- Kristine/Rubina

9- Hannah/Simone – (Toyouke: “This is rough but the producers have to be beside themselves. Two U-Turned teams that caught up to everyone else and now you have four women trying to race these homemade carts down the hill? You got a Head-to-Head and you didn't have to do anything. And then the last place team will know they've lost for maximum drama.”)

Teams are now instructed to make their way on foot to Fort Bokar, the PIT STOP of the fifth leg of this racearoundtheworld. The last team to arrive WILL be eliminated!

4- Joseph/Adam – Joseph: “Where are those beautiful eyebrows, Phil?”

5- Natalie/Stephanie

9- Hannah/Simone – (Toyouke: “OK but to be fair, all the non-participating team members were super supportive and no one was an asshat to their partner. So that's something. And Phil didn't have to come out and eliminate them.”)

Hannah and Simone are the last team to arrive and are eliminated. They were happy to have made memories and never gave up. Hannah reminded us that the race for them was really about spending time together as sisters and finding ways to hang out since they didn’t get to do that growing up.
