TAR 37, Recap Leg 6, 4/9/25

 

Welcome to Leg 6! Last time, on We’re Not Really a Threat!, 9 teams continued to race through Bali. Teams encountered a live Double U-Turn, in which Jonathan & Ana and Scott & Lori were the targets. Carson & Jack, however, think they flew under the radar. Brett and Mark finally pull out a first place win, and the Double U-Turn does what it should and takes out a strong team in Scott and Lori. Who will be eliminated. . . next? (click for more)

Arrival at the pit stop last episode:

3:55 AM Brett/Mark (1st)

Clue: Fly 4000 miles to Dubai, United Arab Emirates! Once there, take a taxi to Platinum Heritage Gate and find the Bedouin Camp to choose a departure time to get your next clue.

4:04 AM Carson/Jack (2nd) – Carson explains that they are just slipping by the competition. (Toyouke: “OK I get that you are impressed no one voted for you at the U-Turn, but 5 other teams also did not get votes, including the team that beat you last leg.”)

4:09 AM Alyssa/Josiah (3rd)

4:19 AM Pops/Jeff (4th) – Jeff tells us his dad is his best friend, and that Saint Louis is a dangerous city.

4:40 AM Han/Holden (5th) – Han: “We finally made it out of Asia!” Holden: “Dubai is also in Asia.”

5:08 AM Melinda/Erika (6th)

5:10 AM Nick/Mike (7th)

5:29 AM Jonathan/Ana (8th) – and Ana thinks their next interaction with Carson and Jack is going to be awkward because they didn’t expect a U-Turn vote from them. Ana: "We didn't have an alliance, but they voted for us and I'm sad."

So teams make their way by taxi to the travel agent to book their tickets to Dubai. Teams arrive in the following order:

4- Pops/Jeff

5- Han/Holden

6- Melinda/Erika

7- Nick/Mike

8- Jonathan/Ana

When Brett and Mark arrive, they find out that there is enough room on the flight for all the teams. So teams get their tickets booked and head to Ngurah Rai International Airport to catch their flights. Teams arrive in the following order:

1- Brett/Mark

2- Carson/Jack

3- Alyssa/Josiah

4- Pops/Jeff

5- Han/Holden

6- Melinda/Erika

7- Nick/Mike

8- Jonathan/Ana

And then we have airport drama, where Jonathan and Ana confront Carson and Jack about their U-Turn decision. (Toyouke: “Guess what? You decided to play emotionally and other people decided to play strategically and that's the risk you take. Don't blame Carson and Jack for your husband being a dick. You admitted yourself that you would have been U-Turned anyway so I'm not sure why you decided to attack them.”) Teams board their flight to Dubai. The Amazing Yellow Line takes us across Asia to more Asia. Teams arrive and get their taxis in the following order:

Teams ooh and ahh through the city until they get to Platinum Heritage Desert Gate. Teams arrive in the following order:

4- Carson/Jack

5- Melinda/Erika

6- Pops/Jeff

7- Brett/Mark

8- Nick/Mike

Team find the Bedouin Camp, where they find coffee cups with marked departure times. Teams take cups for the following times:

First Departure, 5:10 AM

1) Alyssa/Josiah

2) Jonathan/Ana

3) Han/Holden

4) Carson/Jack

Second Departure, 5:20 AM

1) Melinda/Erika

2) Pops/Jeff

3) Brett/Mark

4) Nick/Mike

Teams celebrate and camp in the desert. (Toyouke: “Ana and Alyssa dancing bothered me for some reason. I don't know. Maybe I want them to just listen? Don't put your hands in the air like you know moves? Does it feel racist? I don't know. See now they're all doing it. Maybe because it feels like white college students acting like they're intoxicated because they can feel the vibes, bro, look at me letting go and waving my hands in the air because I do not know any other way to indicate I am letting loose because I am a cool person.”) When they awake for their departure times, they discover they will be travelling by camel caravan into the desert for their next clue. Teams arrive at the clue box in the following order:

3- Carson/Jack – (Toyouke: “I hoped Carson and Jack would talk about DnD and finish by saying "Man we had NO idea what the desert is actually like".”

4- Jonathan/Ana

Teams open their clues and come to the sixth roadblock.

ROADBLOCK:
Who wants to drop into Dubai?
In this roadblock, teams walk the rest of the way to Skydive Dubai, where one team member must take an airplane up to skydive. The Roadblocker will land at the Palm Jumeirah Drop Zone, where their teammate will have been transported and teams will get their next clue.

(Toyouke: “This bunching is dumb. You already divided everyone into two groups, and then there are two flights? Which are just...going to be the same groups? There should be at least three flights.”) The following team members complete the Roadblock.

3- Alyssa – (Toyouke: “I kind of find Josiah's freaking out endearing, in that he clearly is worried but didn't do anything like tell Alyssa she shouldn't jump, or nag her to be safe, or anything. He let her go and then dealt with his freakout by himself because he knows it's irrational and not her fault. Very mature.”)

After much sky diving, teams complete the Roadblock in the following order:

Carson and Jack open their clue and find. . . a Fast Forward!

FAST FORWARD:

Recall (if you can, since they show up rarely anymore) that a fast forward is a task that can be performed to allow one team to skip all remaining tasks and head directly to the pit stop. However, each team may only use their fast forward power once on the race, so they must decide when it is more advantageous to use it. (Toyouke: “I have missed the Fast Forward.”) In this, the first fast forward on this race, teams must travel by orange luxury car to Deep Dive Dubai where they must scuba dive in order to retrieve the Fast Forward and travel directly to the Pit Stop.

Teams decide to go for the Fast Forward in the following order:

1- Han/Holden – who run around the entire building looking for the luxury car.

2- Carson/Jack – who are like, “Oh, it’s right here!” and get in the car.

(Toyouke: “Yeah in this situation the first place team is going to take it because there probably isn't another one this season. And only one team can go for it at a time, and it sounds like you just have to dive. It's not like there's a skill task or a thing they can fail. I mean, they could panic and refuse to swim, I guess.”) So, the Gaymers head to Deep Dive Dubai, go scuba diving, and find the Fast Forward on a pool table inside a huge tank with many other props. (Toyouke: “Ah, so the Fast Forward IS skill-based. But you had to travel, and it's not like anyone is still waiting at the skydive place to see if you give up and come back, and you can't bail on it because you'll be so far behind. So they kind of have to stay until they find it and hope it doesn't take so long they end up last.”) They are instructed to take their luxury car to the Pit Stop at the Museum of the Future.

Teams that don’t take the Fast Forward are instructed to take a taxi to Atlantis the Royal to get their next clue. They arrive in the following order:

1- Alyssa/Josiah
2- Jonathan/Ana
3- Han/Holden

4- Brett/Mark

5- Pops/Jeff

6- Nick/Mike

7- Melinda/Erika

Teams open their clues and are instructed to decorate an afternoon tea platter of sweet and savory sweets and deliver them to the head pastry chef, Christoph DuBois, in order to get their next clue. (Toyouke: “So obviously I looked up this tea. It says "starting at AED 620 for two" which is currently $168.80. But I couldn't find a room at this hotel for less than $1000/night so this is clearly nothing to this clientele.”) Teams arrive at their stations in the following order:

1- Alyssa/Josiah
2- Jonathan/Ana
3- Han/Holden

4- Brett/Mark

5- Pops/Jeff

6- Nick/Mike

7- Melinda/Erika

Much cake and sandwich decorating ensues. So, teams complete the task in the following order:

3- Han/Holden – who thirst after Chef. (Toyouke: "Heh")

4- Brett/Mark

5- Melinda/Erika

6- Nick/Mike

7- Pops/Jeff

Teams are now instructed to travel by taxi to Burj Al Arab Public Beach to get their next clue. Teams arrive and get their clues in the following order:

1- Alyssa/Josiah
2- Han/Holden
3- Jonathan/Ana

4- Brett/Mark

5- Melinda/Erika

6- Pops/Jeff

7- Nick/Mike

Teams open their clues and come to the seventh roadblock.

ROADBLOCK:
Who’s ready to ride a wave?
In this roadblock, one team member must use an eFoil to surf over a marked course. Roadblockers have time to practice, then they start at the first buoy, need to stand by buoy 2, and then stay standing until buoy 3. Once complete, teams will get their next clue.

(Toyouke: “It looks like everyone is assuming the other person has to do the second Roadblock, but no one read that in the clue?”) The following team members complete the Roadblock.

After much eFoil surfing, teams complete the Roadblock in the following order:

Teams are now instructed to make their way to by taxi to R32 Mall of the Emirates Metro Stop and purchase a ticket to travel to R23 Emirates Tower Station. (Toyouke: “This is a lot of steps between the last task and the Pit Stop.”) Teams arrive at the metro in the following order:

1- Han/Holden
2- Alyssa/Josiah
3- Brett/Mark

4- Jonathan/Ana

5- Melinda/Erika

6- Pops/Jeff

7- Nick/Mike

Teams get on the following trains at Mall of the Emirates:

1) Pops/Jeff – who miss their first opportunity to get on a train and have to wait 4 minutes for the next one.

Teams are now instructed to get off at Emirates Tower Station and make their way on foot to the Museum of the Future, the PIT STOP of the sixth leg of this racearoundtheworld. The last team to arrive WILL be eliminated!

And thanks to a foot race, Pops and Jeff are eliminated. Pops is still excited that he jumped out of a plane. Jeff is happy his dad taught him how to be a man.
