TAR 31, Recap Leg 11, 6/26/19

Welcome to Leg 11! Last time, on It’s Always a Single Cracked Egg That Will Send You Home, 5 teams raced to Kampen, Netherlands. A surprise U-Turn pitted Nic and Vic against Team Fun, and Team Fun’s inability to check for cracked eggs meant they were sent to the back of the pack. Colin and Christie pulled off their second leg win of the race, and Becca and Floyd were eliminated. Who will be eliminated. . . next? (click for more)

Arrival at the pit stop last episode:
1st – Colin and Christie, Team My Ox Is Broken!
2nd – Tyler and Korey, Team Hot Gay YouTube Celebrities
3rd – Leo and Jamal, The Afghanimals
4th – Nicole and Victor, The Engaged Houseguests

Bovenwijde Lake Island, Giethoorn, The Netherlands

10:13 PM Colin/Christie (1st)
Clue: Fly to London, England, United Kingdom! Once there, make your way to the Gatwick Aviation Museum to get your next clue.

11:35 PM Tyler/Korey (2nd)
1:20 AM Leo/Jamal (3rd) – who have been eliminated twice on the eleventh leg in previous seasons, including an elimination in London, so they are hoping to break the curse.
1:55 AM Nicole/Victor (4th) – who remind us AGAIN that they are the only non-race team left. (Toyouke: “How are people who played Big Brother so touchy about other people trying to get them eliminated?”)

Teams make their way to Schiphol Airport. Teams arrive in the following order:

1- Colin/Christie – who waited for GayTube in order to ride in a taxi together. (Toyouke: “Colin is helping other people? Weird.”)
2- Tyler/Korey
3- Leo/Jamal
4- Nicole/Victor

Teams all end up on the same flight and end up at London Gatwick in the following order:

1- Leo/Jamal
2- Nicole/Victor
3- Tyler/Korey
4- Colin/Christie

Teams discover that in London, you must get your taxi from a taxi stand, so teams finally leave the airport in the following order:

1- Leo/Jamal
2- Nicole/Victor
3- Tyler/Korey
4- Colin/Christie

Teams taxi to the Gatwick Aviation Museum. They arrive and get their clues in the following order:

1- Leo/Jamal
2- Nicole/Victor
3- Colin/Christie
4- Tyler/Korey

Tams are now instructed to choose a helicopter and fly over the White Cliffs of Dover to Dover Castle. Teams board their helicopters in the following order:

1- Leo/Jamal
2- Nicole/Victor
3- Colin/Christie
4- Tyler/Korey

Teams arrive at Dover Castle and get their clues in the following order:

1- Leo/Jamal
2- Colin/Christie
3- Nicole/Victor
4- Tyler/Korey

When they rip open the clue, teams get the eleventh roadblock.

ROADBLOCK:

Who can’t keep a secret?

In this roadblock, the roadblocker must march to Dover Castle in order to to decipher a World War II code. Once they arrived at the castle, they had to go a room and listen to a speech from Neville Chamberlain and pick out the fifteenth, thirtieth, and fourth words (FAITHPREVAILEVIL). They then had to translate the letters into numbers based on alphabetical order. Under each number was a group of three letters, which teams had to rearrange into numerical order to reveal the final message, "The Dunkirk evacuation has begun. We will never surrender." Once deciphered, roadblockers had to type the message on a typewriter and deliver the message to the brigadier general to get their next clue.

The following teammates take the Roadblock:

1- Leo
2- Christie – who works with Korey, and struggles without him. (Toyouke: “This whole alliance thing is weirding me out, even though it involves my favorite people.”)
3- Victor
4- Korey – who finishes before Christie, but leaves her struggling. (Toyouke: OK, don't help others when you're racing for last.”)

After much decoding, teams complete the Roadblock in the following order:

1- Leo/Jamal
2- Nicole/Victor
3- Tyler/Korey
4- Colin/Christie

Teams are now instructed to board their helicopter and fly to London to Falcon London Heliport in order to make their way to Masthouse Terrace Pier. Teams arrive at the Heliport in the following order:

1- Leo/Jamal
2- Nicole/Victor
3- Tyler/Korey
4- Colin/Christie

Teams now run to the pier and get their next clue in the following order:

1- Leo/Jamal
2- Nicole/Victor
3- Tyler/Korey
4- Colin/Christie

Teams are now instructed to travel by speedboat on the Thames to Savoy Pier. Once there, teams need to make their way to Piccadilly Circus and find the Golden Queen who has their next clue. Teams arrive at the Savoy Pier in the following orcer.

1- Leo/Jamal
2- Nicole/Victor
3- Tyler/Korey
4- Colin/Christie

Teams then make their way to Piccadilly Circus and find the Golden Queen in the following order:

1- Leo/Jamal
2- Nicole/Victor
3- Tyler/Korey
4- Colin/Christie

And we get the Detour Clue.

DETOUR:

Know OR Row

*Know: Teams make their way to the Cabmen’s Shelter on Kensington Road. Once there, they must take a cab ride and memorize the route that they take, which includes 15 roads and 7 points of interest. If they can perfectly recite the route to Dave Cannell, the Master of the Worshipful Company of Hackney Carriage Drivers, then they receive their next clue.
*Row: Teams must make their way to The Serpentine Boathouse in Hyde Park, and pick a double scull to row 200 meters in one minute. Once successful, teams would receive their next clue.

(Toyouke: “Jeez. Rowing is hard but memorizing turns has got to be obnoxious.”)

1- Leo/Jamal choose Row – but very quickly Bald Snark to Know because of Leo’s fear of getting wet.
2- Nicole/Victor choose Row – but Bald Snark to Know after an attempt and a tip over.
3- Tyler/Korey choose Row – but Bald Snark to Know.
4- Colin/Christie choose Row – and Colin rows six times. (Toyouke: “It's not that hard to hold oars out of the water compared to doing all the work, CHRISTIE.”)

Much rowing and memorizing ensues. So, teams complete the detour in the following order:

1- Leo/Jamal
2- Tyler/Korey
3- Colin/Christie
4- Nicole/Victor

Teams are now instructed to make their way to the mat at Camden Market and find Phil. They arrive in the following order:

1- Leo/Jamal
2- Tyler/Korey
3- Colin/Christie
4- Nicole/Victor

Phil hands them a clue and makes them perform another task before they check in. Teams are instructed to search Camden Market to find a trunk with a mannequin, a lamp, a drum, a corset, a camera, purple Go-go boots and a teakettle in the various shops and all marked with a TAR tag. Once all the items had been found and arranged, teams could check in at Camden Market, the PIT STOP of the eleventh leg of this racearoundtheworld. The last team to arrive WILL be eliminated!

1- Leo/Jamal – who break their eleventh leg curse. But win nothing. (Toyouke: “I mean, whatever, but they did run a clean leg.”)
2- Tyler/Korey
3- Colin/Christie
4- Nicole/Victor

And Nicole and Victor are eliminated, leaving only Amazing Race teams left in the running. Victor mentions that they are soulmates. (Toyouke: “I think it was the Bald Snarking. They were automatically behind, and they had to hope that Colin and Christie refused to switch and continued to fail, and also that they would magically be way better at the other side of the Detour.”)

ORDER NOW:
1st – Colin/Christie
2nd – Tyler/Korey
3rd – Leo/Jamal
4th – Nicole/Victor

Next week: Final Leg in . . . Detroit? There’s bowling with a football, and apparently large amounts of drums. Until next time!
