TAR 28 Recap Leg 3, 2-26-16

Welcome to Leg 3! Last time, on Our Taxi Driver Is So Slow, We Might Save Time To Leave Him a Mile Away From the Detour and Run, 11 teams continued racing from Mexico to Colombia. It was a comedy of errors as Darius and Cameron, who somehow can’t book tickets in an airport and believe all clues must be in clueboxes, and Marty and Hagan, who manage to pick the slow cab driver and leave their car parked as far away from the Detour as possible, battled it out for last place. In other crazy news, Tyler and Korey manage to get first place, and even though Scott and Blair had a Speed Bump, it was Marty and Hagan who were finally the first team eliminated. For some reason, we are treated to footage of Dana and Matt from the last leg to remind us that Dana is very pushy and Matt is very even keel. Is this to create drama? Because there is no need to do that. (Toyouke: “There's being frustrated or too competitive, and there's calling your partner stupid. It's so early in the race for people to be this agitated.”)

Clue: Make your way on foot to Plaza San Diego and search for your next clue.

And just in case you were wondering, Tyler and Korey are just friends, although Tyler had a crush on Korey before he met him.

So teams make their way to Plaza San Diego on foot. Teams arrive in the following order:

Teams are now instructed to make their way to Castillo San Felipe de Barajas and search the #catacombs for their next clue. (Toyouke: “THE CLUE HAS A HASHTAG IN IT. Wait, it does, right? They talk so fast I couldn't tell if they made up a hashtag or if it was really in there. “) Teams arrive in the following order:

Teams find the marked entrance near the trumpeter and head down to the catacombs. Lots of folks have an issue with the tight spaces. Teams get their clues in the following order:

1- Tyler/Korey

2- Brodie/Kurt

3- Burnie/Ashley

4- Dana/Matt

5- Zach/Rachel

6- Erin/Joslyn – and Erin can’t. Even.

7- Brittany/Jessica

8- Scott/Blair

9- Sheri/Cole

10- Darius/Cameron

Teams return to the surface and rip open the Detour Clue.

DETOUR:

Tickets OR Tejo

*Tickets: Teams must travel to Avenida el Lago and find the bus depot, where they pick up an empty bus which will travel along its route. Teams then entice passengers to ride and collect 1800 pesos (about 50 US cents) in order to collect 20000 pesos. Once the money is collected, they can leave the bus, find a taxi, and return to the bud depot to pay the attendant and get their next clue.

*Tejo: Teams travel to Restaurante y Cancha de Tejo Ciracari and play a popular Colombian game called Tejo. Teams must hit the target three times to get their next clue from the scorekeeper.

1- Brodie/Kurt choose Tejo –

2- Tyler/Korey choose Tejo – Tyler: “It’s just cornhole!” (Toyouke: “I love that multiple people are making the cornhole comparison and people on the coasts will have no idea what they are talking about.”) And Tyler jumps and squeals EVERY time a rock hits a target. Tyler: “We’re just bros being dudes.” (Toyouke: “Oh Tyler. You are neither a bro nor a dude.”)

3- Burnie/Ashley choose Tejo

4- Dana/Matt choose Tejo

5- Zach/Rachel choose Tickets – who are going along fine, but then miscount their money and have to get a new bus to collect the additional money. (Toyouke: “How do you count wrong? Anyone who can tell the difference with American currency, which is all the same color with the portraits the same size and whatever, should have an easier time with foreign currency that has different colors and sizes of pictures and everything.”) And does anyone else think that Rachel looks like Anna Kendrick?

6- Erin/Joslyn choose Tickets

7- Scott/Blair choose Tickets – and Blair starts shouting “Besos for Pesos!” #besos4pesos and gets a full bus pretty quickly. (Toyouke: “OK Blair's constant "Daddy Daddy!" is bugging me.”)

8- Brittany/Jessica choose Tejo

9- Sheri/Cole choose Tejo

10- Darius/Cameron choose Tejo

Much rock throwing and bus filling. So, teams complete the detour in the following order:

Teams are instructed to make their way to Calle San Juan de Dios outside the Museo Naval do Caribe and find the marked mochilo vendor.

CAUTION: DOUBLE U-TURN AHEAD! (That we don't think is important enough to air!)

Teams head to the Naval Museum and arrive in the following order:

1- Brodie/Kurt

2- Tyler/Korey

3- Burnie/Ashley

4- Dana/Matt

5- Brittany/Jessica

6- Sheri/Cole

7- Erin/Joslyn

8- Darius/Cameron

9- Scott/Blair

10- Zach/Rachel

When they arrive, teams find the U-Turn.

This is a Double U-Turn. Teams may choose to U-turn any team they wish (well, the team has to be behind them), but they may only use the U-Turn once during the race. If a team is U-turned, they must go back to the Detour choices and complete the Detour that they did not complete. This U-Turn is doubled, meaning two teams may U-Turn two other teams. Phil, during his explanation, does not say how many U-Turns there will be on this race.

1- Brodie/Kurt choose not to U-Turn

2- Tyler/Korey choose not to U-Turn

3- Burnie/Ashley choose not to U-Turn

4- Dana/Matt choose not to U-Turn

5- Brittany/Jessica choose not to U-Turn

6- Sheri/Cole choose not to U-Turn

8- Darius/Cameron choose not to U-Turn

9- Scott/Blair choose not to U-Turn

So no one heads back to the Detour. Once that is done, teams finish the U-Turn in the following order:

7- Erin/Joslyn

8- Darius/Cameron

Once they U-Turn (or are not U-Turned) teams proceed to the mochilo vendor and get the third roadblock clue.

ROADBLOCK:

Who’s left holding the bag?

In this roadblock, one team member must explore the area around Plaza Santa Teresa and Plaza Santo Domingo of the old walled city with a mochilo bag from the vendor and visit other vendors to find two other bags by the same designer. Once the two bags are collected, teams return to the original vendor to get their next clue.

The following teammates take the Roadblock:

5- Jessica – who teams up with . . .

6- Cole – because they are in the middle of the pack. (Toyouke: “Don't help Cole! What is wrong with you? You're lucky you aren't actually the last team. Also if Cole can't get his shit together and do this himself then too bad.”)

7- Erin

8- Darius – who gets his bags, but then can’t seem to figure out he needs to take his bags back to the original vendor. #readtheclue (Toyouke: “So...was his brother not allowed to tell him "She's right here"?  That being said WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU”)

9- Scott – who teams up with Erin, but neither of them can read a map, so that was fun.

10- Zach

After much finding of bags, teams complete the Roadblock in the following order:

7- Erin/Joslyn

Teams find now that they must find the Baluarte de Santiago on foot, the PIT STOP of the third leg of this racearoundtheworld. The last team to arrive WILL be eliminated!

1- Brodie/Kurt – who win a trip for two from Travelocity to Mykonos, Greece.

3- Burnie/Ashley

4- Dana/Matt

5- Brittany/Jessica

And Darius and Cameron are eliminated. (Toyouke: “After last week's dumb mistakes, plus this week's dumb mistakes, I'm not that upset.“) Cameron states he would have run the race with anyone else and that they gave it their all. Or at least all of the mistakes they could.
