TAR 27 Recap Leg 9, 11-20-15

Welcome to Leg 9! Last time, on Stop Playing Mister Hot Boy And RACE!, 6 teams raced from Rotterdam to Kraków, Poland. The Texans couldn’t find a cab and it slowed them down, while Justin and Diana worked their way up. Alabama played piano, the Paparazzi argued, so nothing new there. Justin and Diana win their fifth leg, and Tanner and Josh end up in last but find out that the leg is non-elimination. Who will be eliminated. . . next?

Arrival at the pit stop last episode:

At the Pit Stop, the Cheerleaders lament the imminent demise of the Texas boys, since they have grown so close to them. Whatever. And they talk U-turn. (Toyouke: “I know using the U-Turn in a petty manner is dumb. But I can't pretend that at this point I wouldn't be using it on Justin just for being annoying.”)

Clue: Fly to New Delhi, India! Once there, catch a 6 AM train to Agra, India and make your way to Hathi Ghat on the Yamuna River to find your next clue. CAUTION: U-Turn Ahead!

2:02 AM Tiffany/Krista (5th) – and we are reminded that they used their U-Turn on Justin and Diana on Leg 5 when they didn’t have to.

Teams now travel to John Paul II International Airport and arrive in the following order:

1- Justin/Diana

2- Denise/James Earl

3- Kelsey/Joey

4- Logan/Chris

5- Tiffany/Krista

6- Tanner/Josh

We follow the Amazing Blue and Red Lines from Kraków to New Delhi and arrive in the following order:

1- Tanner/Josh

2- Denise/James Earl

3- Kelsey/Joey

4- Justin/Diana

5- Logan/Chris

6- Tiffany/Krista

Teams arrive in New Delhi and make their way to the train station, which has a large number of people sleeping in it, which makes the teams talk about poverty and culture. (Toyouke: “INDIAN TRAIN how long has it been? I missed you.”) Later at the train station, Chris tries to let Justin and Diana know that the Cheerleaders have already used their U-turn against them. Justin then proceeds to ask the Cheerleaders, who deny it, and end up making Chris look like a fool, even though it appears Justin knows that they had the whole time. Ugh. (Toyouke: “Justin. This is not "Survivor". Listen, CBS, I watch "Survivor" for this talking scrambling stuff. I watch "Amazing Race" for skill-based flailing and Amazing Editors.  On the other hand, own your mistake, cheerleaders.“) Teams make their way to Agra and arrive in the following order:

2- Tiffany/Krista

3- Logan/Chris

4- Denise/James Earl

5- Kelsey/Joey

6- Justin/Diana

Teams now take tuk-tuks to Hathi Ghat. They arrive in the following order:

1- Tiffany/Krista

2- Logan/Chris

3- Denise/James Earl

4- Tanner/Josh

5- Kelsey/Joey

6- Justin/Diana

And teams get the envelope with the ninth roadblock clue.

ROADBLOCK:

Who’s ready for laundry day?

In this roadblock, one team member must choose a bicycle of dirty laundry and deliver it to the washing bin. Once there, roadblockers must tie the saris properly and place them in the washing bin. Once approved, they must take fully washed saris and spread them out on the beach to dry. Once completed, they get their next clue.

The following teammates take the Roadblock:

1- Krista
2- Chris
3- Denise

4- Tanner – (Toyouke: “Shut up, Tanner. Don't ask people not to U-Turn you. Accept that you're a strong team.”)

5- Joey

6- Diana

After much washing and drying of saris, teams complete the Roadblock in the following order:

1- Kelsey/Joey

2- Logan/Chris

3- Justin/Diana

4- Tanner/Josh

5- Tiffany/Krista

6- Denise/James Earl

Once the Roadblock is finished, Tanner and Josh find their Speed Bump.

SPEED BUMP:

A Speed Bump is a task that must be performed by the last place team on a non-elimination leg when the non-elimination leg is not immediately followed by the next leg. Once they complete this task, they may return to the place where the Speed Bump occurred and continue the leg. In this speed bump, the team member that did not complete the Roadblock must complete the Roadblock in order to get their next clue.

Teams complete the Speed Bump in the following order:

1- Tanner/Josh

(Toyouke: “Interesting. So instead of making a separate Speed Bump they just glommed onto the Roadblock. It saves money, I guess. Actually I don't hate this method of Speed Bump? Although it certainly is way more serious than things like, sit on a block of ice for ten minutes.”) After much washing and drying of saris (again), they continue with the rest of the teams.

Teams are now instructed to make their way to Hanuman Temple in Johri Bazaar to get a traditional Hindu blessing (Toyouke: “OK let's not act like allowing someone to put paint on your forehead is so magnanimous on your part because you're not a Hindu.”) and their next clue.

Teams arrive at the temple and get their blessings and clues in the following order:

1- Kelsey/Joey

2- Logan/Chris

3- Justin/Diana

4- Tiffany/Krista

5- Denise/James Earl

6- Tanner/Josh

And we get the Detour Clue.

DETOUR:

Cans OR Candy

*Cans: Teams must travel to Chhata Bazaar and load and secure 120 metal cooking oil cans and then ride the bike to the New Taj Oil Company and deliver them in order to get their next clue.

*Candy: Teams must travel to Chhata Bazaar and cut pieces of winter melons in order to create an Indian candy called petha. Once the pieces weighed one maund, teams would get two bundles of completed candy to deliver to Panchi Petha Candy Store and get their next clue.

2- Logan/Chris choose Candy – Logan: "Are you going to cut your hand off? Did you already cut yourself?"

3- Kelsey/Joey choose Cans – Kelsey: “6 x 4 x 5 should be 120.” Joey: “No it’s not.” Kelsey: “Ahem. 20 x 5 is 100. 4 x 5 is 20. 120.” (Toyouke: “MATH SKILLS I love you girl. COMMON CORE FTW”)

4- Tiffany/Krista choose Candy

5- Denise/James Earl choose Candy – James Earl: “I have no idea what a man is!”

6- Tanner/Josh choose Candy

Much can stacking and candy cutting ensues. Team complete their tasks and get their clues in the following order:

1- Justin/Diana

2- Kelsey/Joey

3- Logan/Chris

4- Denise/James Earl

5- Tiffany/Krista

6- Tanner/Josh

Teams are now instructed to make their way to Bijlighar Shahadra Roundabout to search for their next clue. Teams arrive in the following order:

1- Justin/Diana

2- Kelsey/Joey

3- Logan/Chris

4- Denise/James Earl

5- Tiffany/Krista

6- Tanner/Josh

When they arrive, teams find the U-Turn.

This is a U-Turn. Teams may choose to U-turn any team they wish (well, the team has to be behind them for it to count), but they may only use the U-Turn once during the race. If a team is U-turned, they must go back to the Detour choices and complete the Detour that they did not complete. Phil, during his explanation, does not say how many U-Turns there will be on this race.

(Toyouke: “I only just noticed this is is a single U-Turn with no touchscreen and not blind. Old school.”)

1- Justin/Diana choose not to U-Turn

2- Kelsey/Joey choose to U-Turn Tanner/Josh

3- Logan/Chris cannot use the U-Turn

4- Denise/James Earl cannot use the U-Turn

5- Tiffany/Krista have previously used the U-Turn – (Toyouke: “OK, cheerleaders, why are you so shocked that someone used gameplay? U-Turns exist. Someone used one. It's not that shocking.”)

6- Tanner/Josh have been U-Turned

So now Texas returns to Cans and completes the other task. Once that is done, teams get the U-Turn clue in the following order:

1- Justin/Diana – (Toyouke: “Watching a season where one team is constantly winning is really boring.”)

2- Kelsey/Joey

3- Logan/Chris

4- Denise/James Earl

5- Tiffany/Krista

6- Tanner/Josh

Once they U-Turn (or are U-Turned), teams find now that they must make their way to the Taj Mahal and find the Moonlight Gardens, the PIT STOP of the ninth leg of this racearoundtheworld. The last team to arrive MAY be eliminated!

1- Justin/Diana – who win a trip for two to Honolulu, Hawaii. Oh, and we are introduced to the Pit Stop greeter, a local barber who just happens to be shaving a man nearby. Random.

2- Kelsey/Joey

3- Logan/Chris

4- Tiffany/Krista

5- Denise/James Earl – (Toyouke: “Whatever, editors, do you think I'd really expect the boys can catch up after an actual Speed Bump involving an actual task and then a U-Turn? Denise and James Earl don't suck that much.”)

And Tanner and Josh are eliminated. So nice to get rid of the Alpha males. Good guys though. (Toyouke: “You know what? Texas didn't really get that offended that they were U-Turned and it was refreshing. Live by the sword, die by the sword.”)
