TAR 27 Recap Leg 4, 10-16-15

Welcome to Leg 4! Last time, on Racially Insensitive Shouting Will Get You Second Place, 9 teams continued racing through Argentina. Apparently the editors want us to care about the rivalry of Justin and Diana and the Texans STILL. I have a feeling that this will. Never. END. Anyway, the Texans hatch their plan to give away their Express Pass to whomever U-Turns Andy Samberg’s look-alike. Denise yells at her son. A lot. (FREE JAMES EARL!) And Ernest and Jin can’t overcome their time deficit and end up being eliminated. Who will be eliminated. . . next? (click for more)

We check in with Team Texas, and find out that they are scheming with the Newscasters to give them the Express Pass once they use it to help with the ousting of Justin and Diana. This could go very well, or very poorly. (Toyouke: "Also Justin proclaims that you never U-Turn a team that won't be eliminated because it always backfires, and I KNOW that's wrong without even looking it up. Aren't you supposed to be a superfan?" Kmanpat: "Season 16, leg 5. Louie and Michael U-Turned Joe and Heidi even though they were in third place out of eight teams. And Joe and Heidi were eliminated." Toyouke: "Also if it's a double U-Turn then BY DESIGN someone will be U-Turned and not eliminated so how exactly does that work Mr. I Have Seen Every Episode Three Times?")

Parque Criollo y Museo Gauchesco Ricardo Guiraldes, San Antonio de Areco, Argentina

Clue: Fly to Livingston, Zambia, on one of two pre-reserved flights by taking a bus from San Antonio de Areco to Ministro Pistarini International Airport in Buenos Aires and flying Harry Mwanga Nkumbula International Airport. Once there, find a taxi and make your way to Mukuni Village.

And now that everything with flights is settled in the minds of the producers, we get no more time chyrons.

So teams make their way to the travel agent to reserve their flights. Teams arrive in the following order:

Teams reserve flights in the following order:

Once that is resolved, teams make their way to the bus station and all end up on the same bus to Buenos Aires. Then, teams arrive at the airport, board their flights, and boringly jump on the Amazing Red and Blue Lines to Zambia. Yawn. Teams arrive at Harry Mwanga Nkumbula International Airport. in the following order:

5- Cindy/Rick

7- Tiffany/Krista

8- Logan/Chris

Teams now make their way to Mukuni Village. They arrive in the following order:

1- Kelsey/Joey

2- Tanner/Josh

3- Justin/Diana

4- Jazmine/Danielle

5- Cindy/Rick

6- Denise/James Earl

7- Logan/Chris

8- Tiffany/Krista

The teams are then treated to a Zambian Ceremony of Welcome involving the chief of the village spitting water on them. Once thoroughly blessed by saliva, teams pick up their next clue inside the village. Teams get their clues in the following order:

1- Kelsey/Joey

2- Tanner/Josh

3- Justin/Diana

4- Jazmine/Danielle

5- Cindy/Rick

6- Denise/James Earl

7- Logan/Chris

8- Tiffany/Krista

Teams are now instructed to travel to the Batoka Aerodrome to get their next clue. Teams arrive in the following order:

1- Kelsey/Joey

2- Tanner/Josh

3- Justin/Diana

4- Jazmine/Danielle

5- Cindy/Rick

6- Logan/Chris

7- Denise/James Earl

8- Tiffany/Krista

The envelopes are opened to discover the third roadblock clue.

ROADBLOCK:

Who wants to rise above the smoke that thunders?

In this roadblock, one team member fly in a microlight plane above Victoria Falls and spot a race flag marking the location of their next clue, Knife’s Edge Bridge. Once the flight is over, the Roadblocker and their partner make their way to the bridge and cross it to get the clue.

The following teammates take the Roadblock:

1- Kelsey
2- Tanner – who then, with his partner, use the Express Pass, with the logic that they will get extra time to get through the Detour quickly to use the U-Turn before Justin and Diana. (Toyouke: "Listen, right now everyone thinks this is a normal leg so it's not so ridiculous for them to spend the Express Pass. Although they maybe could have reasoned this task wasn't that strenuous.")
3- Diana

4- Jazmine – who inexplicably has a ridiculously large description of where this bridge is that isn’t “in the middle of Victoria Falls National Park”.

5- Rick

6- Logan

7- Denise

8- Krista

After much microlight flying, teams complete the Roadblock in the following order:

1- Tanner/Josh

2- Kelsey/Joey

3- Justin/Diana

4- Cindy/Rick

5- Logan/Chris

6- Denise/James Earl

7- Jazmine/Danielle – who end up in Zimbabwe based on Jazmine’s ridiculously accurate description of a bridge near a pink hotel surrounded by two blue buildings. To her credit, that’s exactly where their driver takes them.

8- Tiffany/Krista

Teams are now instructed to cross the border into Zimbabwe and make their way to the town of Victoria Falls. Once their, teams find Shoestring Backpacks Lodge. Teams cross the border and arrive in the following order:

1- Tanner/Josh

2- Justin/Diana

3- Kelsey/Joey

4- Cindy/Rick

5- Logan/Chris

6- Denise/James Earl

7- Jazmine/Danielle

8- Tiffany/Krista

Teams arrive to find a board of keys for rooms in which to stay the night. Each key has a departure time in the morning. Teams take keys and get the following departure times:

8:00 AM

8:10 AM

1) Kelsey/Joey

2) Cindy/Rick

8:20 AM

1) Logan/Chris

2) Denise/James Earl

3) Jazmine/Danielle

(Toyouke: "Oh. OH. They DID waste the Express Pass! If I didn't know it would be extremely difficult to do, I would think this overnight was producer interference. It's just so convenient.")

At their prescribed times, teams are handed their next clue by the lodge directors.

And we get the Detour Clue.

DETOUR:

Co-Op OR Croquet

*Co-Op: Teams must travel to The Big Five Co-Op and choose a giraffe to stain and polish using only a toothbrush. Once completed to the approval of the artisan, teams get their next clue.

*Croquet: Teams must travel to the Victoria Falls Hotel, change into period clothing, and play croquet against a professional. Once the team scores 5 points, they get their next clue.

1- Justin/Diana choose Croquet

2- Tanner/Josh choose Croquet

3- Kelsey/Joey choose Croquet

4- Cindy/Rick choose Co-Op - because they don't know what croquet is.

5- Logan/Chris choose Co-Op

6- Jazmine/Danielle choose Co-Op

7- Tiffany/Krista choose Co-Op

8- Denise/James Earl choose Croquet

Much giraffe staining and croquet playing occurs. Team complete their tasks and get their clues in the following order:

1- Justin/Diana

2- Tanner/Josh

3- Denise/James Earl

4- Kelsey/Joey

Teams find now that they must travel to the Rose of Charity Orphanage, the PIT STOP of the fourth leg of this racearoundtheworld. Once there, teams are instructed to make a donation to the orphanage in order to check in. The last team to arrive MAY be eliminated!

CAUTION: DOUBLE U-TURN AHEAD!

Teams race for the orphanage and arrive in the following order:

1- Justin/Diana

2- Tanner/Josh

When they arrive, teams find the U-Turn.

This is a Double U-Turn. Teams may choose to U-turn any team they wish (well, the team has to be behind them), but they may only use the U-Turn once during the race. If a team is U-turned, they must go back to the Detour choices and complete the Detour that they did not complete. This U-Turn is doubled, meaning two teams may U-Turn two other teams. Phil, during his explanation, does not say how many U-Turns there will be on this race.

1- Justin/Diana choose not to U-Turn which is apparently them taking the high road. (Toyouke: "BOO this is no fun.")

2- Tanner/Josh choose not to U-Turn

So no one heads back to the Detour. Once that is done, teams finish the U-Turn in the following order:

1- Justin/Diana

2- Tanner/Josh

Once they U-Turn (or are U-Turned) teams are now allowed to make their donation and check in at the Pit Stop

1- Justin/Diana – who win no prize. Odd.

2- Tanner/Josh – who are told to hand over their Express Pass to Phil so he can give it to the team they want when they check in.

And Justin and Diana. . . receive their next clue and are told to keep racing! They are instructed to head to the Lookout Café and find their next clue. They also have $65 for this leg of the race. Ugh. I hate To Be Continued episodes. Whatever Phil.
