TAR 27 Recap Leg 2, 10-2-15

Welcome to Leg 2! Last time, on We Have No Money For Cool Transportation, So Just Run to the Starting Line, 11 teams started Amazing Race 27. Justin and Diana took an early lead in front of Tanner and Josh, the Texas Boys, and immediately set up our first feud of the Race. Team Race Proposal then got on the first flight to Rio, went for the Fast Forward, and dropped position due to the weather conditions. Texas then took first to win the Express Pass, and Team TMZ was eliminated after spending almost four hours at the Detour. Who will be eliminated. . . next? (click for more)

Teams hang out at the lookout and Justin and Diana finally get to meet the teams. (Toyouke: “Oh look, Eat Sleep Mingle. Sort of.”) Team Texas takes an immediate dislike of Justin. This will be a theme.

Clue: Fly to Buenos Aires, Argentina! Once there, make your way to the church where Pope Francis was baptized and search for your next clue.

9:44 AM Jazmine/Danielle (2nd) – who remind us that they are strong girls.

9:48 AM Cindy/Rick (3rd)

9:56 AM Denise/James Earl (4th) – and James Earl reminds us about his coming out to his mother. We get it, you’re gay, she didn’t like it, blah blah blah.

And, per usual, the Amazing Chyron Operators decide we don’t need to see any more teams.

So teams make their way to a travel agent to book their flights. Teams arrive in the following order:

Once there, teams get their flights, and find out that they are all on the same flight to Buenos Aires that departs at 8:25 pm. So, teams get to the airport in the following order:

4- Jazmine/Danielle

5- Alex/Adam

6- Ernest/Jin

7- Justin/Diana – and they get information about the church from Team Texas, and then turn around and give it to other teams. Justin: “We won’t share, we’re Christians.” RIGHT.

Anyway, we board, and the Amazing Blue Line takes us to Ministro Pistarini International Airport in Buenos Aires. Teams arrive in the following order:

Teams find taxis and make their way to the church where Pope Francis was baptized, the Basilica Maria Auxiliadora y San Carlos. Teams arrive and find out that the church opens at 7:30 am, but they must pull numbers to see who goes in when. So teams pull tabs in the following order:

1- Justin/Diana

2- Logan/Chris

3- Tanner/Josh

4- Alex/Adam

5- Cindy/Rick

6- Kelsey/Joey

7- Ernest/Jin

8- Tiffany/Krista

9- Denise/James Earl

So teams some back at 7:30 am, marvel at the beauty of the church, and enter in order to get their clue.

And we get the Detour Clue.

DETOUR:

Cartoneros OR Fletero

*Cartoneros: Teams must travel to Villa Crespo and pick up one of eight carts to collect cardboard from recycling bins in the neighborhood. Once 100 kilograms of cardboard has been delivered to the recycling truck, the foreman gives the teams their next clue.

*Fletero: Teams travel to Plaza Dorego in San Telmo and pick up a statue from Gabriel del Campo Antique Shop. They then call a truck driver to help them take the statue to Plaza Intendente Seeber in Palermo. One team member must provide the directions while the other sits in the back with the statue. Once the statue has been delivered to the gazebo and correctly assembled, the art director gives the teams their next clue.

(Toyouke: “Both these Detour tasks seem kind of lame? But at least not horribly lopsided?”)

10- Jazmine/Danielle choose Cartoneros – but are the ninth ones to arrive, so they go to the Detour Finish to see if anyone is done with their carts. Texas is by the time they get there, and take their cart.

Much statue carting and cardboard collecting ensues. (Toyouke: “You guys know there are 2.2 pounds in a kilogram, right? So to be done that's 220 pounds? Way more than you have? I feel like lack of familiarity with the metric system is making people think this is super easy. And there is a lot of suspiciously clean identical cardboard pieces floating around Buenos Aires.”) So, teams complete the detour in the following order:

Teams are now instructed to make their way to Calle Bartolomé Mitre in San Isidro. Teams arrive and get their clue in the following order:

Once they arrive, teams get the first roadblock clue.

ROADBLOCK:

Who wants to get sideways?

In this roadblock, one team member must go into the AEREA dance school and learn the Argentinean Tango with a partner, but dance it both on the floor and wall to get their next clue. All participants will be the follow for their dance couple.

OK, so I feel for the guys here. If you are used to leading, following is HARD. However, I give mad props to the dance school for not caring what gender anyone was and creating different types of couples. (Toyouke: “Why are they making people do the opposite gender's moves? They have a male dancer and a female dancer, right? Is it to just be obnoxious? Because why can't the female dancer dance with the guys and vice versa?”) After much dancing, teams complete the Roadblock in the following order:

Teams find now that they must travel to Campo Argentino de Polo, the PIT STOP of the second leg of this racearoundtheworld. The last team to arrive WILL be eliminated!

1- Justin/Diana – who win a trip for two from Travelocity to Morocco.

2- Tanner/Josh – and in his effort to beat Justin, Tanner pulls a hamstring. (Toyouke: “HA that's what you get for racing for SECOND PLACE.”)

3- Denise/James Earl

4- Logan/Chris

5- Cindy/Rick

6- Tiffany/Krista

7- Kelsey/Joey

8- Jazmine/Danielle

9- Ernest/Jin – Who are really upset they might be in last place. (Toyouke: “I mean, I get that you have a hard life, but maybe don't pin all your hopes on a reality show?”)

And Alex and Adam are shockingly eliminated, after getting out of the Roadblock in ninth. Alex: “All we got was two legs!” But I think they had fun.
