TAR23, Recap Leg 3, 10/14/13

Welcome to Leg 3! Last time, on Make Sure to Tetris Your Shoeshine Cart, teams raced through Chile.  Tim and Marie piss everyone off by not giving up the Express Pass.  Leo and Jamal can’t seem to figure out how to pay a taxi cab, so Chester and Ephraim finish first, after zip lining, apparently.  And Rowan and Shane, who can’t read the directions, are eliminated.  Who will be eliminated. . . next? Clue: Fly to Lisbon, Portugal!  Once there, make your way to Martim Moniz Square, take the tram up the hill to Miradouro das Portas do Sol and find the Fado performers to get your next clue.

Chester and Ephraim make their way to a travel agent and quickly find a great flight that gets into Lisbon at 7 pm.

6:39 PM Leo/Jamal (2nd) – who go directly to the airport and get a good flight through London.

6:58 PM Brandon/Adam (3rd) – who go to the travel agent and get the flight that lands at 12 pm.

7:11 PM Nicole/Travis (4th) – who manage to steal the NFL Buddies flight.

7:25 PM Jason/Amy (5th)

12:25 AM Tim/Danny (6th)

12:27 AM Ally/Ashley (7th)

12:33 AM Tim/Marie (8th)

1:00 AM Nicky/Kim (9th)

Teams get flights at various locations and make their way to the airport in Santiago in the following order:

1- Leo/Jamal
2- Nicole/Travis
3- Chester/Ephraim  

4- Brandon/Adam 

5- Jason/Amy

6- Tim/Marie

7- Ally/Ashley  

8- Tim/Danny

9- Nicky/Kim

Teams start trying to find better flights.  Both the NFL Buddies and Brandon and Adam get phone calls (I’m not sure how) from the travel agent that says she got them different flights which they both take.  (Toyouke: “Why is everyone suddenly so savvy about flights? When they fail so horribly at reading the clues?”)  With that, we mostly get our flights, which shake down as this:

Flight # 1, via Buenos Aires, São Paolo, and London, arrives

1) Chester/Ephraim – who were worried about their original flight, which didn’t go through London at all, and they had mechanical difficulties everywhere they went.  (Toyouke: “This is bullshit. Every flight is delayed? Seriously? All stemming from one ticket agent who put the wrong date into her computer?”)  You can predict where this is going.

Flight # 2, via Madrid, arrives 10 am

Flight # 3, via London, arrives 11 am

1) Ally/Ashley

2) Leo/Jamal

Flight # 4, via São Paolo, arrives 7 am or 12 pm

1) Nicole/Travis

2) Nicky/Kim – who manage to get on the standby list before the other teams.  (Toyouke: “I like that the baseball wives got ahead of the line but legitimately. So there's really nothing anyone can do.”)

3) Jason/Amy

2) Tim/Marie  - who are the only team not to get on the earlier flight out of São Paolo.

Teams are finally landing in Lisbon and depart the airport in the following order:

1- Nicole/Travis
2- Jason/Amy
3- Nicky/Kim 

4- Brandon/Adam 

5- Tim/Danny

6- Ally/Ashley

7- Leo/Jamal 

8- Tim/Marie

9- Chester/Ephraim – who will now be notably absent from the rest of the leg.

Teams now head to Martim Moniz and take the tram to the top where they find the Fado players and lots of copies of the clue, a replica of a painting of the Embassy Coach sent by King John V to Pope Clement XI.  Teams get the clue in following order:

1- Nicole/Travis
2- Jason/Amy
3- Nicky/Kim 

4- Tim/Danny 

5- Brandon/Adam

6- Ally/Ashley

7- Leo/Jamal 

8- Tim/Marie

Teams must now figure out that the painting is directing them to the Museu Nacional de Coches and find the actual Embassy Coach to get their next clue.  They find the clues at the museum in the following order:

1- Jason/Amy
2- Nicole/Travis
3- Nicky/Kim 

4- Tim/Danny 

5- Brandon/Adam

6- Leo/Jamal

7- Ally/Ashley 

8- Tim/Marie

And we get the Detour Clue.

DETOUR:
Tiles OR Miles

*Tiles: Teams must put together a tile puzzle made out of porcelain and place it on a three dimensional stand.  Once complete and verified by the tile master, teams will get their next clue.
*Miles: Teams travel to the large map at Padrão dos Descobrimentos, and use giant compasses to measure the distance of Magellan’s famed voyage around the world, connecting Seville, the Canary Islands, the Cape Verde Islands, Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Solis, the Strait of Magellan, Puka-Puka, San Pablo Island, the Mariana Islands, and the Philippine Islands.  Once teams were within 500 miles of the correct answer of 16500 nautical miles, Magellan would give them their next clue.

1- Jason/Amy choose Miles – and work with . . .

2- Nicole/Travis choose Miles – (Toyouke: “Why is that scale set to 1410 miles? Why is it a random number?”)
3- Nicky/Kim choose Tiles

4- Brandon/Adam choose Tiles

5- Tim/Danny choose Miles

6- Leo/Jamal choose Miles – and severely over think it, thus Bald Snark to Tiles.  (Toyouke: “Why am I not surprised these idiots forgot the earth is round?”)

7- Ally/Ashley choose Miles – who make their second Bald Snark in two detours to Tiles.

8- Tim/Marie choose Tiles

Teams complete the detour in the following order:

1- Nicole/Travis
2- Jason/Amy
3- Nicky/Kim 

4- Tim/Danny   

5- Brandon/Adam

6- Ally/Ashley

7- Leo/Jamal 

8- Tim/Marie

Teams are now instructed to travel to Clube Português de Tiro a Chumbo to get their next clue.  Teams arrive at Clube Português in the following order:

1- Jason/Amy  
2- Nicole/Travis
3- Nicky/Kim 

4- Tim/Danny   

5- Brandon/Adam

6- Ally/Ashley

7- Leo/Jamal 

8- Tim/Marie

And once they arrive, teams get the fourth roadblock clue.

ROADBLOCK:

Who has a hand for slings and arrows?

In this roadblock, roadblockers must put on a suit of armor and hit a shield 150 feet away using an arrow shot from a ballista.  Once they hit a shield, a knight will bring it to them so that they can read the next clue.

The following teammates take the Roadblock:

After much arrow shooting, teams complete the Roadblock in the following order:

Teams find now that they must travel to Castelo Dos Mouros, the PIT STOP of the third leg of this racearoundtheworld.  The last team to arrive WILL be eliminated!

Phil meets the NFL Buddies at the Lisbon Airport to let them know that all other teams have checked in at the Pit Stop and that they are eliminated from the race.
