TAR23, Recap Leg 2, 10/7/13

Welcome to Leg 2! Last time, on Row Row Row Your Boat To Get Yourselves Some Fish, teams raced from Los Angeles to Iquique Chile.  We find out the winning team of the leg gets two Express Passes, one to use and one to give away.  Tim and Marie win the leg after Nicole and Travis pulled a Heave and were penalized.  (Auburnium0513: “You know, this just occurred to me, shouldn't the ER doctors be super careful about what they read since if you mis-read a chart, you could kill a patient?”)  Naina and Hoskote were eliminated for being slow.  Who will be eliminated. . . next? Clue: Make your way to the deck of the Museo Coberta Esmerelda.  The officer of the day will post the next clue when the deck opens at 7:15 AM.  You have $589 for this leg of the race.

Marie: “Other teams think we’re a disaster due to our arguing.”  (Toyouke: “I really don't need a flashback to a week ago and stupid arguing.”)

Teams mingle when they arrive at the boat.  Marie tries to institute a backpack line system, which fails miserably.  Teams are then released at 7:15 am to read the clue, which says, "During the Battle of Iquique in the War of the Pacific, Chilean National Hero Arturo Prat uttered a famous phrase before the sinking of his ship, the Esmerelda.  Repeat the phrase to the officer in Spanish to get your next clue."  Teams then figure out the phrase they need is "¡Al abordaje, muchachos!", and get their next clue in the following order:

Teams are now instructed to make their way to the Irlanda Salt Mines and search for their next clue near the Irlanda 3 road sign.  Teams arrive at the salt flats in the following order:

4- Nicole/Travis 
5- Chester/Ephraim
6- Jason/Amy
7- Tim/Marie 
8- Nicky/Kim
9- Tim/Danny
10- Rowan/Shane - who get hopelessly lost.

And we get the Detour Clue.

DETOUR:
Brining OR Mining
For both Detours, teams must rides bikes into the salt flat.
*Brining: Teams must change into their bathing suits and haul 60 pound bags of salt to a pool where teams add the salt until they can float in the pool and read the newspaper.  When they do, the attendant gives teams the next clue.
*Mining: Teams break boulders of salt and find one with a clue.

(Toyouke: “Hmm, Swedish Roulette or pour salt in a tub and float in it. That doesn't seem equal.”)

1- Brandon/Adam choose Mining
2- Leo/Jamal choose Mining
3- Ally/Ashley choose Mining – who quickly realize they can’t do this, and make the first Bald Snark of the season by switching to Brining.
4- Chester/Ephraim choose Mining
5- Jason/Amy choose Brining – (Toyouke: “What...Jason. What the actual fuck.  Even Kmanpat wouldn't wear those swim trunks or underwear or whatever is going on.”  Kmanpat: “I thought they were kinda sexy. . .”)

7- Tim/Marie choose Brining
8- Nicky/Kim choose Brining
9- Tim/Danny choose Brining
10- Rowan/Shame choose Mining

Teams complete the detour in the following order:

Teams are now instructed to travel back to Iquique and take a bus 1000 miles to Santiago.  Once there, teams are instructed to find the Plaza de Armas to get their next clue.  Teams arrive back in Iquique in the following order:

1- Brandon/Adam
2- Leo/Jamal
3- Chester/Ephraim 
4- Jason/Amy 
5- Nicole/Travis
6- Tim/Marie
7- Ally/Ashley 
8- Tim/Danny
9- Rowan/Shane
10- Nicky/Kim

Teams arrive at the bus station, and get on busses in the following order:

Bus # 1, departs at 1:30 pm, arrives 1:50 pm

Bus # 2, departs at 2:00 pm, arrives 6:44 pm

1) Rowan/Shane – who try and get on a bus arrive earlier, and end up on a later bus, but not as late as they thought.  (Toyouke: “OK, I'll give the drag queens that they were trying to do something to get out of last place, instead of accepting it. Still dumb though.”)

Teams arrive in Santiago in the following order:

Teams then travel to the Plaza de Armas and arrive in the following order:

And once they arrive, teams get the third roadblock clue.

ROADBLOCK:

Who's got the knack to pack?

In this roadblock, roadblockers must find a marked shoe shine station, shine the shoes of a customer, and then pack up the station.  The station must then be correctly packed and pushed to the storage area, where teams will get the next clue and open it when they return to their teammates.

After much shoe shining and cart packing, teams complete the Roadblock in the following order:

9- Nicky/Kim – who tries to get the Express Pass from Pinkhair.  (Toyouke: “Is there a rule about when you can hand off the Express Pass? Is Pinkhair just being a bitch and making sure she can get someone to bail her out first? Trying to get people to worship her or something? Otherwise there's no reason to go back on her promise.”)
10- Rowan/Shane

Teams find now that they must travel to Cascada de las Animas Nature Preserve, the PIT STOP of the second leg of this racearoundtheworld.  The last team to arrive WILL be eliminated!

1- Chester/Ephraim – who win a trip for two to Turks and Caicos.
2- Leo/Jamal – who try and stiff the cab driver and have to go back and pay. 
3- Brandon/Adam – who dance around Phil and smack his butt.  (Toyouke: “OH I KNOW YOU DID NOT JUST SLAP PHIL ON THE ASS.  Permanent classification as T-Tow Hippies and not Fun Hippies.”)
4- Nicole/Travis
5- Jason/Amy
6- Tim/Danny 
7- Ally/Ashley  
8- Tim/Marie – who still have both Express Passes.

And with that, Rowan and Shane are eliminated.  Sad times.  They still love each other though.
