TAR21, Recap Leg 4, 10/21/12

Welcome to Leg 4! Last time, on I Don’t Know How Many Dudes Had Their Mouth on This Thing Before Me, teams raced from Surabaya, Indonesia to Bangil.  There was plate breaking and egg making, and Abbie and Ryan winning.  Pleh.  One of the most exciting Pit Stop races ever eliminated the blondies.  (Toyouke: “Gary and Will did not make "a super comeback". They did not "knock Caitlin and Brittany out of the race". The rickshaw driver did that.”)  Who will be eliminated. . . next? (click for more)

BTW, I’m back from California.  January 18 for anyone who wants to see me on Jeopardy.   Just putting that out there.

Teams get the only flight available through Singapore, and all board the airplane in the following order:

The Amazing Red line drops us off in Dhaka, where teams get taxis in the following order:

Abbie and Ryan open their clue and find. . . a Fast Forward! 

FAST FORWARD:

Recall (if you can, since they show up rarely anymore) that a fast forward is a task that can be performed to allow one team to skip all remaining tasks and head directly to the pit stop.  However, each team may only use their fast forward power once on the race, so they must decide when it is more advantageous to use it.  In this, the first (?) fast forward on this race, teams must become rat catchers and fill a bag with dead rats from three different places until they are all “eradicated”.  Once complete, they get their next clue and skip all remaining tasks and travel directly to the Pit Stop.  (Toyouke: “This Fast Forward is not strenuous but it is kind of gross.  Oh, Phil. That pun was terrible.”)

Teams decide to go for the Fast Forward in the following order:

1- James/Abba

(Toyouke: “I love that James and Abba have groupies.”)  So – rat collecting, Fast Forward for their team.  James and Abba get their Fast Forward and travel to the PIT STOP at Shambazar Chan Mia Ghat.

All the other teams get the fifth roadblock clue.

ROADBLOCK:

Who wants to fill in the gaps?

In this roadblock, roadblockers must complete three tasks.  First, they had to use body putty to fill in the damage and then sand it ready for painting. Once approved, teams then had to carry three pairs of seats and deliver them to the refurbishing area to receive the next clue.

The following teammates take the Roadblock:

Nadiya and Jaymes: “Long, strong and hard!  Long strong and hard!”  Jaymes: “We’re in a Muslim country, watch your mouth!”  After much puttying and sanding and seat carrying, teams complete the Roadblock in the following order:

2- Rob/Kelley
3- Natalie/Nadiya

4- Josh/Brent

5- Jaymes/James

6- Trey/Lexi – (Toyouke: “I've push-started a car. But it was a stick, and the problem was the battery. Which is not a thing you can fix by pouring Sprite on the engine so what was up with that?”)

Teams are now instructed to travel to Kawran Bazar Shootkir Market and find the shop with the bags of dried fish.  Once they find the shop, they must choose a marked bag and find the one fish marked with Race Colors to get their next clue.  Teams arrive at the shop in the following order:

1- Abbie/Ryan 
2- Natalie/Nadiya
3- Rob/Kelley

4- Jaymes/James – Jaymes: “It’s like when we can’t find the scoop in the protein powder.”

5- Josh/Brent

6- Trey/Lexi

7- Gary/Will

Teams get the marked fish in the following order:

1- Abbie/Ryan 
2- Natalie/Nadiya
3- Rob/Kelley

4- Josh/Brent

5- Jaymes/James

6- Trey/Lexi

7- Gary/Will

And we get the Detour Clue.

DETOUR:
Pound the Metal OR Pound the Cotton 
*Pound the Metal: Teams make their way to the local blacksmith.  Once there, they must pump the bellows to get it hot enough and then use sledgehammers to hammer out the sharp spiked tool.  Once complete, they will receive their next clue.
*Pound the Cotton: Teams must make a mattress using a Bengali method by beating with bamboo, stuffing and sewing to receive their next clue.

1- Abbie/Ryan choose Pound the Cotton – (Toyouke: “I didn't think Abbie's weird rolling technique was going to work, and then all of a sudden it was perfect.”)

2- Natalie/Nadiya choose Pound the Metal

3- Rob/Kelley choose Pound the Metal

4- Josh/Brent choose Pound the Cotton 

5- Jaymes/James choose Pound the Cotton 

6- Trey/Lexi choose Pound the Metal

7- Gary/Will choose Pound the Cotton 

Teams complete the detour in the following order:

1- Natalie/Nadiya  
2- Rob/Kelley
3- Abbie/Ryan

4- Josh/Brent

5- Trey/Lexi

6- Jaymes/James

7- Gary/Will

Teams find now that they must travel to Shambazar Chan Mia Ghat, the PIT STOP of the fourth leg of this racearoundtheworld.  Teams must get there by travelling by boat to Swarighat and tehn walking to the mat.  The last team to arrive MAY be eliminated!

Teams get to their boats in the following order:

1- Abbie/Ryan – who are on the same ferry with . . .  
2- Natalie/Nadiya
3- Rob/Kelley – who get a boat, but the boat drops them off at the Pit Stop area instead of Swarighat, and they need to return to the boat to get dropped off properly.

4- Josh/Brent

5- Jaymes/James

6- Trey/Lexi – who take their taxi to Swarighat and take the boat back to the original dock to then turn around and head back to Swarighat.  This is the same route taken by . . .

7- Gary/Will

Teams can now head to the Pit Stop.

1- James/Abba – who win a trip to Antigua.
2- Abbie/Ryan
3- Natalie/Nadiya  

4- Josh/Brent

5- Rob/Kelley

6- Jaymes/James

7- Trey/Lexi

8- Gary/Will

And finally, Gary and Will are eliminated.  They still say they are the ultimate fans though.
