Welcome to Leg 3! Last
time, on Who Knew That Making Balloon Animals
Was Something Gays Did Well?, teams raced from Shanghai, China to Surabaya,
Indonesia. Teams had to “race” bulls,
entertain children, and haul ice. Natalie
and Nadiya won first place and the Express Pass, while sadly, Amy and Daniel
got a horrible cab driver and were eliminated. It was very sad. Who will be eliminated. . . next?
Kmanpat isn’t here today, so it’s
just me. More commentary probably.

6:07 AM Natalie/Nadiya (1st)
Clue: Make your way to Antika Jaya Padang Restaurant! Caution U-Turn Ahead!
6:12 AM Trey/Lexi (2nd) – who get help from
Natalie and Nadiya at first, but then the twins want them to wait for everyone
else. That’s why you don’t have alliances.
6:16 AM Jaymes/James (3rd) –who join up with the
first two teams.
6:19 AM Abbie/Ryan (4th)
6:26 AM Josh/Brent (5th)
– Josh doesn’t feel they’re an Alpha team, but he also feels “great” people
win, so he’s morally superior, I guess.
6:34
AM James/Abba (6th)
7:08 AM Caitlin/Brittany
(7th)
7:22 AM Rob/Kelley (8th)
7:32 AM Gary/Will (9th) –Gary thinks because
they’ve been trying for so long to get on the show, they should know better.
Teams arrive at Antika Jaya Padang in the following order:
1- Trey/Lexi
2- Josh/Brent
3- Abbie/Ryan
2- Josh/Brent
3- Abbie/Ryan
4- Jaymes/James
5- James/Abba
6- Natalie/Nadiya –cabbie got lost, so they ditched him and got another one.
7- Caitlin/Brittany
8- Rob/Kelley
9- Gary/Will
And once they arrive,
teams get the fourth roadblock clue. Out of a real clue box, I must add.
ROADBLOCK:
Who wants to serve a balanced
meal?
In this roadblock, roadblockers
must serve 20 plates of food at once. They must balance all the plates at the
same time, on their arms with no tray. If anything drops along the way, they
must start over. Once they have served 20 plates of food at once, they will receive
their next clue.
The
following teammates take the Roadblock:
1- Lexi –who fails once.
2- Brent –who also fails once.
3- Ryan
2- Brent –who also fails once.
3- Ryan
4- Jaymes
5- James –I
think. I can’t tell them apart and they spend all of 15 seconds on their
Roadblock attempt.
6- Nadiya –who
fails once.
7-Brittany –because
thank God her teammate shouts her name. They even have the same hoodie on.
8- Rob
9- Gary –which I think was a
good move because he has longer arms.
After much breakage,
teams complete the Roadblock in the following order:
1- Jaymes/James
2- Abbie/Ryan
3- Trey/Lexi
2- Abbie/Ryan
3- Trey/Lexi
4- Josh/Brent
5- James/Abba
6- Natalie/Nadiya
7- Caitlin/Brittany
8- Rob/Kelley
9- Gary/Will
Teams are now instructed
to travel to Surabaya Gubang Train Station.
They will be taking a train to Bangil. While on the train, they must
keep their eyes open for their next clue. Teams arrive at the train station and
get on trains in the following order:
Train 1, departing 7:36 AM:
1- Trey/Lexi
2- Josh/Brent
3- Abbie/Ryan
2- Josh/Brent
3- Abbie/Ryan
4- Jaymes/James
5- James/Abba
Train 2, departing 10:50 AM:
6- Natalie/Nadiya –who JUST miss the first train. I think everyone even saw them.
7- Caitlin/Brittany
8- Rob/Kelley
9- Gary/Will
Teams on the first train discover
when the next train leaves and are pleased with their lead. Jaymes wants
everyone on that train to wait and agree to not U-Turn anyone. Stupid. I’d
shake his hand and U-Turn his ass the first chance I got. He does admit that
James/Abba are not sitting with them, so they don’t know what they’ll do.
While on the train, a vendor comes
around with clues. Sadly no one misses them.
And we get the Detour
Clue.
DETOUR:
Lion’s Head OR Egg Head
*Lion’s Head: Teams make their way by rickshaw to a local park, then dress in costume, including a mask that weighs over 40 pounds. Then they must parade down the street and stop several times along the way to perform a sequence of steps. Once they have made their way back to the park, they will receive their next clue.
*Egg Head: Teams must pick up four eggs from a vendor and travel by rickshaw to a local park (I think the same one). A magician will place coconuts on their heads and light them on fire to fry the eggs. Once the eggs are cooked, the teams must eat them to receive their next clue.

Of course, teams must
wait for the train to arrive at the station to get going on the Detour options.
1- Josh/Brent choose Egg Head –the magician husks the coconut WITH HIS TEETH.
2- Abbie/Ryan choose Lion’s Head
3- Jaymes/James choose
Lion’s Head–they don’t fit in the
rickshaw. Then Jaymes says “James! You put your mouth on this thing! You hold
it with your mouth!” I can’t make this up. “I don’t know how many dudes have
had their mouth on this thing before me.” That last one was subtitled in case
you missed it.
4- Trey/Lexi choose Lion’s Head
5- James/Abba choose Lion’s Head
6- Natalie/Nadiya choose Lion’s
Head
7- Rob/Kelley choose Lion’s
Head
8- Caitlin/Brittany choose Lion’s
Head
9- Gary/Will choose Lion’s
Head
Teams complete the
detour in the following order:
1- Abbie/Ryan
2- Jaymes/James
3- Trey/Lexi
2- Jaymes/James
3- Trey/Lexi
4- James/Abba
5- Josh/Brent
6- Natalie/Nadiya
7- Rob/Kelley
8- Caitlin/Brittany –who are really agitated because they’re lost.
9- Gary/Will
Teams must now make
their way to Perliman Pos. 1. They are given a list of cross streets at that
intersection. At this location, teams find the Double U-Turn.
CAUTION: DOUBLE
U-TURN AHEAD
This is a Double U-Turn. Teams may choose to U-turn any team they wish (well, the team has to be behind them), but they may only use the U-Turn once during the race. If a team is U-turned, they must go back to the Detour choices and complete the Detour that they did not complete. This U-Turn is doubled, meaning two teams may U-Turn two other teams. This U-Turn is also blind, meaning any team that decides to use it will remain anonymous. Phil, during his explanation, does not say how many U-Turns there will be on this race.
1-Abbie/Ryan choose not to U-Turn
2-Jaymes/James choose not to U-Turn
3-Trey/Lexi choose not to U-Turn
4-James/Abba choose not to U-Turn
5-Josh/Brent choose not to U-Turn
6-Natalie/Nadiya choose not to U-Turn –and they’re in such a hurry to get the clue afterwards Nadiya runs right into the camera. Natalie says their picture is cute.
7-Rob/Kelley choose to U-Turn Gary/Will –because they know the teachers are behind them, and they want the buffer in case they get lost.
8-Gary/Will have been U-Turned and choose to U-Turn Rob/Kelley --they figure they might as well U-Turn someone, and even though they don’t know for sure if Caitlin/Brittany are behind them they say have a 50/50 chance the team they U-Turn is behind them. Actually it’s less than that, because no one could be behind them, but whatever. They have chosen…poorly.

9-Caitlin/Brittany
cannot U-Turn
So Gary/Will have to return
to the park and complete the Egg Head side of the Detour. Once that is all
done, they can move on to the next clue.
Teams find now that they
must travel to SMA Negeri 1 Bangil School (Bangil’s #1 high school), the PIT
STOP of the third leg of this racearoundtheworld. The last team to arrive MAY be eliminated!
1- Abbie/Ryan – who win a trip to Fiji.
2- Trey/Lexi –Lexi says Abbie and Ryan are a threat and the next chance they get to U-turn someone, it’s going to be Abbie and Ryan.
3- Jaymes/James
1- Abbie/Ryan – who win a trip to Fiji.
2- Trey/Lexi –Lexi says Abbie and Ryan are a threat and the next chance they get to U-turn someone, it’s going to be Abbie and Ryan.
3- Jaymes/James
4- James/Abba
5- Josh/Brent
6- Natalie/Nadiya –they’re going for blood tomorrow.
7- Rob/Kelley
8- Gary/Will
9- Caitlin/Brittany—they freak out along the way, prompting Brittany to say how frustrating
it is “when a guy from this country cannot speak any English.”
OK, I have to talk about
this ending. Caitlin/Brittany left the park, drove around and then somehow
ended up back at the park. As they were wandering the park, looking for the
U-Turn, you can see Gary/Will doing their second Detour. Caitlin and Brittany
saw them. When the girls finally figured out where they were going, they did
reach the U-Turn and the Pit Stop clue ahead of Gary/Will. But their driver got
lost AGAIN, and they ended up going in a big circle. As they got going in the
right direction, they drove up behind Gary/Will, causing a giant race. They actually
passed the boys, but then all of a sudden, the two rickshaws drove off in
different directions. And of course, Caitlin/Brittany were lost. When their
driver turns around to go back the way they came, they suspect the worst.
And with that, Caitlin and Brittany are eliminated. Wow. This show has not been kind to Indonesian cab drivers and the like. Brittany thinks they were a stronger team than Gary and Will and that’s the most upsetting thing.
ORDER NOW:
1st – Abbie/Ryan
2nd – Trey/Lexi
3rd – Jaymes/James
4th – James/Abba
5th – Josh/Brent
6th – Natalie/Nadiya
7th – Rob/Kelley
8th – Gary/Will
Next week: Teams travel to Bangladesh (I think) to scrape paint. Rob and Kelley get lost.
