TAR21, Recap Leg 2, 10/8/12

Welcome to Leg 2! Last time, on I Can’t Believe I Got Beat In Ping Pong By A Kid With a Clipboard, teams raced from Los Angeles to Shanghai, China.  Teams played ping-pong and ate fallopian tubes.  Tide To Go Joe and his woman got first, and now have a $2000000 target on their backs.  Rob and Sheila were eliminated.  Who will be eliminated. . . next?

Clue: Fly to Surabaya, Indonesia!  Once there, travel across the Bangkalan Bridge to Alun Alun Stadium to get their next clue.  The winner of this leg will receive the Express Pass!

(Toyouke: “Boo! I thought the Express Pass was gone! “)  Ryan: “I’m sweating behind my kneecaps.”

And now apparently the Amazing Editors got bored writing times down, so the rest of the teams just leave in order, whenever they leave.

In their infinite “wisdom”, the Monster Truckers decide that when they find an earlier flight out of China to Hong Kong and on to Surabaya on Cathay Pacific, they should take it, even though they never checked for arrival times.  Stupid.  (Toyouke: “Heh. Always check the arrival time.”)  So, they do, and everyone else gets on the Garuda Airlines flight to Jakarta and on to Surabaya, which lands earlier.  So the flights shake down thusly:

The Amazing Red Line flies to Hong Kon, and sits on a four hour layover.  The Amazing Blue Line flies to Jakarta, where Rock of Ages goes standby for an earlier flight and nails it.  So they git out to Surabaya before everyone else.

Teams arrive in Surabaya in the following order:

4- Natalie/Nadiya – (Auburniun0513: “Natalie and Nadiya call beggars their homeboys...riiiight...”)

10- Rob/Kelley – (Auburnium0513: “Really, the monster truckers are one of the teams with the rolly bags??  Seriously?  Okay, so you're in Hong Kong, why are you just sitting there and not looking for a faster flight?”)

Teams now race to Alun Alun stadium, where they find a locked gate and a number pull waiting for them.  The Bull Racing Stadium does not open until 8 AM.   So, bunching.  But teams arrive in the following order:

5- Trey/Lexi

6- Natalie/Nadiya

7- Josh/Brent

10- Rob/Kelley – Rob: “We like being last!”  (Toyouke: “Sigh.”)

Teams take the time in which they are bunching to hang out until morning, which is when the bull racing arena opens.  Once the gates open, teams enter and get on motorcycles in the order in which they pulled numbers in order to race against the bulls.  (Toyouke: “But they have a driver! They aren't even doing anything! All you have to do is ride on the back of a motorcycle. Stupid fake "task".”)  Teams finish in the following order:

Teams are now instructed to make their way to Genteng Kali Bridge and search for their next clue.  (Auburnium0513: “Aaaand we have balloons instead of a clue box.  Don't you have a prop room full of clue boxes from previous seasons that you can use?”)  Teams arrive in the following order:

And once they arrive, teams get the third roadblock clue.

ROADBLOCK:

Who likes to party?

In this roadblock, roadblockers must operate an Odong-odong, which is a bicycle powered carnival ride while blowing up balloons.  Once they have four balloon animals and four balloon hats, one of the children will give them their next clue.

(Toyouke: “This is a thing. Bicycle-powered carnival rides. Crazy.  That's a lot of balloons though.  I wouldn't know how to make balloon animals. Or hats.”)

The following teammates take the Roadblock:

After much balloon animal making and carnival ride pedaling, teams complete the Roadblock in the following order:

2- Amy/Daniel – who promptly choose a taxi who gets them lost.  (Toyouke: “I do not want Amy and Daniel to go out like this. On a horrible cab.”)

7- Josh/Brent – Brent: “There are some things gays are naturally better at – making balloon animals is one of them.”  (Toyouke: “Are you good at balloon animals? Being a gay, as Brent said?”  Kmanpat: “I haven’t practiced.  I feel like there is a latex joke here somewhere.”)

Teams are now instructed to travel to Wijaya Motor.  Once there, teams get their clue in the following order:

DETOUR:
Ice By The Pound OR Fish By The Barrel
*Ice By The Pound: Teams must deliver 10 65 pound ice blocks to a local market by getting ice from a giant ice makes, transporting it by truck, and transferring to a cart to deliver to a market stall, where the vendor will give them their next clue.
*Fish By The Barrel: Teams must deliver two barrels of fish to the local market, break up a block of ice for chilling purposes, and sort the fish properly in order to set up their stall for business.  Once done, the vendor will give them their next clue.

(Toyouke: “Both of these Detours sound kind of long. Ice is more straightforward, I guess, although more physically demanding.”)

2- Natalie/Nadiya choose Fish By The Barrel – Natalie: “I could take this fish right now and rub it all over my face.”  Nadiya: “I’m dripping my makeup all over this crushed ice!”  (Auburnium0513: “With the fish task, I envision myself hurting myself if we have to chop the ice.  Seeing Natalie and Nadiya chopping the ice, I now KNOW that I would hurt myself doing that.”)

Teams find now that they must travel on foot to the mat in Pasar Pabean Market, the PIT STOP of the second leg of this racearoundtheworld.  The last team to arrive WILL be eliminated!

1- Natalie/Nadiya – who win the Express Pass.  Phil: “Thank you for sharing your smell with me!”  (Toyouke: “DO NOT MOLEST PHIL.  Hmm. I am torn. I like the twins, though. But making Phil smell like dead fish! ”  Auburnium0513: “You know, I'm starting to think this whole "double your money" thing is actually a way to give out fewer prizes.  First leg gets the chance at $2 million, second leg gets the Express Pass.  No actual prizes yet...CBS you cheap bastards!”)
