Project Runway 1/31/13--"Spin Out" summary

Previously on Project Runway: There were two teams, but unlike the real world, you don’t have to make your garment match your team at all. Also, didn’t they say it would be teams of two for the whole season? Did I make that up? I’m pretty sure I read it somewhere, only I can’t remember where, and clearly that’s not what happened so I don’t know. Everyone was supposed to make garments that showcase themselves as designers, inspired by New York. Daniel made a suit, with crop pants and a peplum with a bubble hem. It was interesting, I’m OK with the win. Emily very nearly sent her model down naked, and in the end she was sent home for having poor time management skills. (click for more)

Top Chef 1/30/13--"Chefs at Sea" summary

Previously on “Top Chef”: there was a sushi-making Quickfire, which Stefan won, impressive. Then Tom asked for fried chicken for himself and his chef friends. Apparently they wanted fried chicken, and not anything else. The secret requirement is bones. You have to leave it on the bone. Being creative is not allowed, lest the drunk judges mock you. Josh made fried chicken, so he won. Josie also actually did make fried chicken, but it was greasy and Tom I guess heard about what really happened at Restaurant Wars because he was DONE with her excuses and they sent her home. Top Chef 1/23/13--"Wolfgang Cluck's" summary

Previously on “Top Chef”: Restaurant Wars! It was men vs. women. Stefan had terrible service, but Sheldon’s food was so wonderful that his team still won. Josie screwed up her bouillabaisse, because she wouldn’t start it when Kristen told her to. But the judges had no idea what went on, so when Kristen refused to throw her under the bus, they didn’t know that if Josie had done what Kristen had asked, they would have finished the broth in time to put gelatin in it and then it would have been fine. I know Kristen wanted to take responsibility, but she could have said “Josie didn’t finish in time”. Anyway, Kristen was sent home, and both Tom and Gail said in their blogs that had they known what was going on, they would have made a different decision. I mean, they didn’t come right out and say “We would have sent Josie home” but it certainly sounds that way. (click for more)

Project Runway All Stars 1/17/13--"Go Big or Go Home" summary

Previously on Project Runway: everyone got to go to Paris and make couture gowns. Emilio and Anthony Ryan did very well, and Josh and Uli had to spend an hour remaking their gowns. Uli used her lining to make a whole new gown, and she won the weird mini-challenge. Josh was sent home. So our final three are Uli, Emilio, and Anthony Ryan. I’m fine with it, I just wish there was some suspense about it. (NOT a spoiler, just my prediction) (click for more)

Top Chef 1/16/13--"Restaurant Wars" summary

Previously on “Top Chef”: The Quickfire was to make dishes with ginger. Exciting. Then it was Restaurant Wars, sort of. Everyone has to come up with a concept, and then make one dish that showcases your idea. Then the judges picked Sheldon and Kristen to be the executive chefs, based on their home-style Filipino and contemporary French, respectively. Micah decided to have a raw restaurant, which wasn’t that great, and he was sent home. Yes, that means the teams are uneven. They didn’t say if that would be addressed or if Sheldon is just screwed. Project Runway All Stars 1/10/13--"Couture de France" summary

Previously on Project Runway: the remaining designers had to design “makeover” outfits for female veterans. It was a good challenge. Josh did very well and won, even though I think he had some extra challenges (his veteran lost a leg). Anthony Ryan’s veteran was a self-proclaimed “boob hider”, and his dress actually drew attention to them. Yes, I know she was larger than a model would have been, but there had to have been a million ways he could have made a more flattering dress. It has nothing to do with her chest size. But, the minute he’s in danger, magically no one is eliminated and all four designers are moving on to this week. Whatever. (click for more)
