TAR 38, Recap Leg 9, 11/19/25

Welcome to Leg 9! Last time, on The Amazing Race Expedia Experience Adventure, 6 teams continued racing through Romania. The Express Passes that Kyland and Taylor and Jas and Jag earned on Leg 1 had to be used in Leg 8. Tucker and Eric had their fourth consecutive first place finish, and Joseph and Adam finished last on the first non-elimination leg of the race. Who will be eliminated. . . next? (click for more)

Arrival at the pit stop last episode:

1st – Jas and Jag, Team Turbanators

2nd – Tucker and Eric, Team TNT Bros

3rd – Kyland and Taylor, Team Influencer

4th – Izzy and Paige, Team EnGayged

5th – Jack and Chelsie, Team Father-Daughter Dance

6th – Joseph and Adam, Team Law Bros

Mogosoaia Palace, Mogosoaia, Romania

2:07 AM Jas/Jag (1st)

Clue: Fly to Athens, Greece! Once there, take a taxi to the National Observatory of Athens on Pnyka Hill to meet Phil. CAUTION: Double U-Turn Ahead!

2:08 AM Tucker/Eric (2nd)

3:24 AM Kyland/Taylor (3rd)

4:24 AM Izzy/Paige (4th) – who are both freelance artists, so they could use the prize money.

6:10 AM Jack/Chelsie (5th) - and Jack says that his wife has had MS since 2005, so they are running the race for her. And they think they are in last.

8:50 AM Joseph/Adam (6th)

Teams now make their way to Henri Coanda International Airport in Bucharest. Teams arrive in the following order:

1- Jas/Jag

2- Tucker/Eric

3- Kyland/Taylor

4- Izzy/Paige

5- Jack/Chelsie

6- Joseph/Adam

All teams get the same flight from Bucharest to Athens. So, the Amazing Yellow Line takes us to Athens International Airport, where teams arrive and get taxis in the following order:

1- Jas/Jag

2- Joseph/Adam

3- Jack/Chelsie

4- Tucker/Eric

5- Kyland/Taylor

6- Izzy/Paige

Teams arrive at Pnyka Hill and make their way up to the observatory and arrive in the following order:

1- Jas/Jag

2- Jack/Chelsie

3- Izzy/Paige

4- Tucker/Eric

5- Joseph/Adam

6- Kyland/Taylor

At the top of the hill, we are greeted by the sight of the Parthenon on the Acropolis, and Phil, who reveals the Double U-Turn Vote. (Toyouke: “I guess if you're insisting on this vote, you have to have bunching. It's still dumb though.”)

This is a Blind Double U-Turn Vote. Teams may choose to U-turn any two teams they wish, but they may only get one vote for each. If a team receives the first or second most votes and is U-turned, they must complete both Detour options when they arrive.

Phil also reveals that Joseph and Adam get an automatic vote as their penalty for finishing last on the elimination leg. (Toyouke: “Voting for the U-Turn is dumb, live voting is dumb, getting two votes is VERY dumb, Joseph and Adam should have been U-Turned instead of just getting one single vote, blah blah”)

1- Joseph/Adam choose to U-Turn Tucker/Eric and Jack/Chelsie – and Joseph makes Adam make all the decisions.

2- Tucker/Eric choose to U-Turn Kyland/Taylor and Jas/Jag

3- Jack/Chelsie choose to U-Turn Jas/Jag and Kyland/Taylor

4- Jas/Jag choose to U-Turn Kyland/Taylor and Tucker/Eric

5- Izzy/Paige choose to U-Turn Tucker/Eric and Jas/Jag

6- Kyland/Taylor choose to U-Turn Tucker/Eric and Izzy/Paige – Taylor: "I feel uncomfortable because guys are dominating this race." (Toyouke: “Do you even watch the show? That's how it works. Are you blaming the men in the race for beating you? "Uncomfortable" is such an odd description and this just feels like she thinks it's on purpose or something. Also, do not cry about how the men in the race are against you, personally, and then vote for the one all-female team left. "It's a burn vote" OK then vote for Jack and Chelsie. "We didn't want to vote for you" but you did and you didn't need to. Thank you Izzy and Paige for calling this out.”)

So, with four votes, Tucker and Eric are U-Turned and will have to perform both sides of the Detour when they arrive later in the leg. However, Kyland/Taylor and Jas/Jag both have three votes, so there is a tie. (Toyouke: “Also I don't think Jas and Jag thought Taylor was going to U-Turn them. I think they heard she and Kyland assuming Jas and Jag had it out for women or something and they were offended. And now Taylor is claiming she totally wasn't mad at them for "targeting" women and they were very supportive? Please. This is not a situation that you should be crying about.”) Teams now must revote for one of those two teams to be U-Turned, but if the tie remains at the end of the vote, both teams will be U-Turned.

1- Kyland/Taylor choose to U-Turn Jas/Jag

2- Izzy/Paige choose to U-Turn Jas/Jag

3- Jas/Jag choose to U-Turn Kyland/Taylor

4- Jack/Chelsie choose to U-Turn Jas/Jag

5- Tucker/Eric choose to U-Turn Kyland/Taylor

6- Joseph/Adam choose to U-Turn Kyland/Taylor - Joseph: "We're burning again, we vote for Phil." (Toyouke: “OK that was funny.”) And once again, Joseph makes Adam choose.

So, since the tie remained, both Jas/Jag and Kyland/Taylor are U-Turned, and will have to perform both sides of the Detour when they arrive later in the leg. Phil then distributes clues to the teams. They ae now instructed to travel by foot to the Acropolis and find the man with the red and yellow flag to get their next clue.

Teams make their way to the Acropolis and arrive in the following order:

1- Jas/Jag

2- Joseph/Adam

3- Tucker/Eric

4- Kyland/Taylor

5- Izzy/Paige – who get lost on their way.

6- Jack/Chelsie – who get lost on their way.

Teams find the man with the red and yellow flag in the following order:

1- Tucker/Eric

2- Jas/Jag

3- Kyland/Taylor

4- Joseph/Adam

5- Izzy/Paige

6- Jack/Chelsie

Teams open their clues and we get the seventh Detour Clue.

DETOUR:

Music in the Air OR Olives Everywhere

*Music in the Air: Teams make their way to Klafthmonos Square to pick up a crank operated piano called a laterna, as well as a stand and tip bucket. Teams they make their way on foot to Monastiraki Square, set up their equipment, and collect 10 Euro from the crowds. Once complete, teams will get their next clue from the only laterna maker in Greece.

*Olives Everywhere: Teams make their way to Aliana Olives and taste 10 different varieties of olives. Once they have memorized them all, teams must identify the olives correctly. If they get all ten correct, then they will get their next clue from the proctor.

(Toyouke: “Both of these Detour options are kind of annoying. Busking is always weird.”)

1- Tucker/Eric choose Music In The Air – and after they go back to retrieve their forgotten stand, Tucker does a handstand for 10 Euro, they finish their first Detour in second, and head to Olives Everywhere. (Toyouke: “Who is this guy offering money for handstands? Wild.”)

2- Jas/Jag choose Music In The Air – and finish their first Detour in first, and head to Olives Everywhere, where they are the first team to arrive at that detour.

3- Kyland/Taylor choose Music In The Air – and after they go back to retrieve their forgotten stand, finish their first Detour third, and head to Olives Everywhere.

4- Joseph/Adam choose Music In The Air - after they go back to retrieve their forgotten stand, they complete the detour.

5- Izzy/Paige choose Olives Everywhere – and get lost along the way, but wisely separated themselves from Jack/Chelsie.

6- Jack/Chelsie choose Olives Everywhere – who get lost along the way. (Toyouke: “How much wandering around are Jack and Chelsie and Izzy and Paige doing if Jas and Jag did a whole Detour and still beat them to the olives?!”)

Much laterna cranking and olive tasting ensues. So, teams complete the detour in the following order:

1- Joseph/Adam

2- Jas/Jag

3- Tucker/Eric

4- Izzy/Paige

5- Jack/Chelsie

6- Kyland/Taylor

Teams are now instructed to take a taxi to the Hill of Muses. Teams arrive in the following order:

1- Jas/Jag
2- Joseph/Adam
3- Tucker/Eric

4- Izzy/Paige

5- Jack/Chelsie

6- Kyland/Taylor

Teams are now instructed to roll a boulder up the hill, just as Sisyphus does in the myth. Once teams get to the top, Sisyphus will give them their next clue. Teams push the boulder up the hill and get their clue in the following order:

1- Jas/Jag
2- Joseph/Adam
3- Tucker/Eric

4- Izzy/Paige

5- Jack/Chelsie

6- Kyland/Taylor

Teams are now instructed to take the stone path to Bora Stratou Theatre and get their next clue. Teams arrive in the following order:

1- Jas/Jag
2- Joseph/Adam
3- Tucker/Eric

4- Izzy/Paige

5- Jack/Chelsie

6- Kyland/Taylor

When teams open their clue, teams come to the tenth roadblock.

ROADBLOCK:
Who’s the alpha?

In this roadblock, one team member must memorize the Greek alphabet using lowercase letters. Once learned, teams visit a Greek scholar and identify the twenty-four letters in random order. If done correctly, teams get their next clue.

(Toyouke: “The lower case letters ARE well known if you do science. Or math. Or you play video games and need to memorize symbols and can just pretend this is meaningless.”) The following team members complete the Roadblock.

1- Jag
2- Joseph
3- Tucker

4- Paige

5- Chelsie

6- Taylor

After much letter memorizing, teams complete the Roadblock in the following order:

1- Jas/Jag
2- Jack/Chelsie
3- Joseph/Adam

4- Izzy/Paige

5- Kyland/Taylor

6- Tucker/Eric

Teams are now instructed to take a taxi to Kotzia Square, the PIT STOP of the ninth leg of this racearoundtheworld. The last team to arrive MAY be eliminated!

1- Jas/Jag – who win Expedia 1 Key Cash Rewards for a trip for 2 to Siem Reap, Cambodia. And they are the first team in Amazing Race history to finish first after being U-turned on the same leg.

2- Jack/Chelsie

3- Joseph/Adam

4- Izzy/Paige

5- Kyland/Taylor

6- Tucker/Eric

And in a shocking turn of events, Tucker and Eric are the last team to arrive and are eliminated. Eric says it’s a tough pill to swallow, but his brother doesn’t let him down. (Toyouke: “As much as I hate the stupid vote and whatever, a U-Turn was successfully used to get rid of a strong team that otherwise could have won.”)

ORDER NOW:

1st – Jas/Jag

2nd – Jack/Chelsie

3rd – joseph/Adam

4th – Izzy/Paige

5th – Kyland/Taylor

Next week: Italy! Kyland and Taylor appear to be on a flight by themselves, which might be an issue. And you know how they keep pointing out that Adam has diabetes? He gets heat exhaustion. Until next time!
