TAR 34, Recap Leg 10, 12/7/22

Welcome to Leg 10! Last time, on Just Keep Swimming!, 4 teams raced to Iceland, where David had to swim in multiple challenges, and that ultimately ended up in the dancers taking a penalty of two hours to end up checking in last, only to be eliminated. And then there were three: Molly and Emily, the long lost twins, reunited after 36 years apart; Derek and Claire, the couple who met on Big Brother a year ago; and Luis and Michelle, the fun loving husband and wife on one last adventure before they have kids. Who will win The Amazing Race 34? (click for more)

Arrival at the pit stop last episode:

1st – Derek and Claire, Team Big Brother

2nd – Luis and Michelle, Team Miami Croquetas

3rd – Emily and Molly, Team Long Lost Twins

Gullfoss Falls, Hrunamannahreppur, Iceland

Teams are whisked away to Reykjavik-Keflavik Airport, and their charter flight to a new destination. Once there, teams will be transported by Amazing Yellow Line to Nashville, Tennessee, USA, where teams make their way to the Pit Start for the final leg of the Amazing Race!

Jack Daniels Distillery, Lynchburg, Tennessee, USA

Derek/Claire (1st)

Clue: Welcome to your FINAL DESTINATION CITY: Nashville, Tennessee, USA! Before proceeding, properly label and box 30 bottles of whiskey for shipment. Once approved, the proctor will give you your next clue.

Luis/Michelle (2nd)

Emily/Molly (3rd) - and Emily’s leg is still hurting from 6 legs ago.

(Toyouke: “It only just now occurred to me that they made the teams race with their bags when they have a charter jet. They could have left their things on the plane. There's no reason for racing with backpacks except that they always race with backpacks.”) Derek, Luis and Molly do the packing, while Claire, Michelle and Emily do the labeling. They complete their boxes and get their clues in the following order:

1- Emily/Molly

2- Derek/Claire – because Claire couldn’t put on a label properly.

3- Luis/Michelle – because Michelle couldn’t put on a label properly.

Teams are now instructed to drive themselves to the Korean Veterans Memorial Bridge to get their next clue. Teams arrive in the following order:

1- Derek/Claire

2- Luis/Michelle

3- Emily/Molly – who missed the marked parking.

When they rip open the clue, teams get the twelfth and final roadblock.

ROADBLOCK:

Who wants to climb and rappel?

In this roadblock, one team member must climb 300 feet up Korean Veterans Memorial Bridge, figure out that their clue is the guitar pick located in the guitar case at the top of the bridge, then rappel back down to their partner.

The following teammates take the Roadblock:

1- Derek

2- Michelle

3- Emily

After much bridge climbing and rappeling, teams complete the Roadblock in the following order:

1- Derek/Claire

2- Emily/Molly – because Emily can climb faster than Michelle

3- Luis/Michelle

Teams are now instructed to drive themselves by their guitar pick to the Gibson Garage. Teams arrive in the following order:

1- Derek/Claire

2- Luis/Michelle

3- Emily/Molly – who went the wrong way from the Bridge.

Teams receive their clue from TAR22 and TAR24 alumni Caroline & Jennifer. (Toyouke: “I love that they let former teams help out.”) Teams are instructed to pack up 2 Gibson acoustic guitars and 1 Gibson electric guitar and deliver them to three honky-tonks on Broadway: Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge, Whiskey Bent Saloon, and Wild Horse Saloon. Once delivered, teams receive tickets to their next destination, the Nashville Municipal Auditorium. Teams arrive at Tootsie’s in the following order:

1- Derek/Claire

2- Luis/Michelle

3- Emily/Molly

(Toyouke: “I'm a little surprised they sent them somewhere so crowded, both because it's a spoiler and because of Covid.”) Teams then arrive at Whiskey Bent in the following order:

1- Derek/Claire

2- Luis/Michelle

3- Emily/Molly

Teams then arrive at Wild Horse and get their tickets in the following order:

1- Derek/Claire

2- Luis/Michelle

3- Emily/Molly

Teams now make their way on foot to the Nashville Municipal Auditorium. They arrive in the following order:

1- Derek/Claire

2- Luis/Michelle

3- Emily/Molly

Once they arrive, teams get the final task.

FINAL TASK:

Keys to Success

In this final task, both team members use a giant keyboard to press keys that displayed pictures on a monitor. Eleven of those pictures were from the current race. Teams must play the keys in chronological order based on when they saw the images on the Race in 11 seconds. Once complete, the orchestra plays the Amazing Race Theme Song and teams get their next clue.

Leg, Note and Image

Leg 1, Munich, Germany: B4, Smash Supplies

Leg 2, Innsbruck, Austria: G#3, Flag of Austria

Leg 3, Bologna, Italy: C#2, Ducati Panigale V4

Leg 3, Florence, Italy: C#5, Chisel Roadblock

Leg 4, Petra, Jordan: D3, The Treasury

Leg 5, Amman, Jordan: F#4, Amman Citadel

Leg 6, Domme, France: A2, Commarque Crests

Leg 7, Toulouse, France: E5, French Horn Player

Leg 8, Malaga, Spain: F#2, El Cubo

Leg 8, Ronda, Spain: F3, Ronda Postcard

Leg 9, Myrdalshreppur, Iceland: G4, Landrover

(Toyouke: “So you could do this memory task either from knowing the scenes or from knowing music? Interesting.”) Much keyboard mashing ensues. (Toyouke: “Also I know they're making a big deal about the theme but this answer is not the theme. The theme has repeated notes. I do love that they're all there at the same time, freaking out, failing multiple times. It's come down to the memory puzzle and that's satisfying to me.”) Teams finish the task in the following order:

1- Derek/Claire

2- Emily/Molly

3- Luis/Michelle – because they didn’t realize they could use the black keys.

Teams find now that they make their way on foot to the Ryman Auditorium and the FINISH LINE of this racearoundtheworld. The first team to arrive will WIN the Amazing Race!

1- Derek/Claire

2- Emily/Molly

3- Luis/Michelle

23 days, 8 countries, 16 cities, Derek and Claire, you are the winners of The Amazing Race 34! And Derek goes to make a fake mat proposal. (Toyouke: “OK a fake proposal is very funny. Also, what if Emily didn't hurt her knee? They got second with that handicap.”)

ORDER NOW:

1st – Derek/Claire

2nd – Emily/Molly

3rd – Luis/Michelle

4th – Aubrey/David

5th – Marcus/Michael

6th – Quinton/Mattie

7th – Glenda/Lumumba

8th – Abby/Will

9th – Linton/Sharik

10th – Rich/Dom

11th – Tim/Rex

12th – Aastha/Nina

Next season: TAR35! It just finished taping on November 17, and included visits to Argentina, Colombia, Uruguay, Chile, Barbados and Dominican Republic, so we should have another Race really soon! We’ll see you next time!
