TAR 34, Recap Leg 8.2, 11/23/22

Welcome back to Leg 8! Last time, on Let’s Have a Another Megaleg, Because The First One Wasn’t Enough?, 5 teams found themselves in Málaga, Spain. Emily’s knee continued to cause problems for the twins, and Marcus couldn’t figure out the roadblock. But Luis and Michelle took the Detour that no one else took, and that gave them a chance to move up in the ranks. Derek and Claire were the first to leave the Detour, but as we know, it’s anybody’s game. The leg continues, who will be eliminated. . . next? (click for more)

Playa el Palo, Màlaga, Spain

Teams are still busy fish frying and item delivering. So, teams finally complete the detour in the following order:

1- Derek/Claire

2- Aubrey/David

3- Luis/Michelle

4- Emily/Molly

5- Marcus/ Michael

Teams are now instructed to drive themselves to the location on the postcard they received from the Detour: Puente Nuevo in Ronda, Spain. Once there, teams must find the tour guide with the Andalusian flag to get their next clue.

Teams get in their convertibles and drive to Ronda. (Toyouke: "I didn't realize how used to the usual camera angles I was until they got convertibles that don't have enough space for the crew so they had to drive behind in another car.") They park and find the tour guide to get their clue in the following order:

1- Luis/Michelle

2- Derek/Claire – who got turned around in Màlaga, so they got off to a rocky start.

3- Aubrey/David – who are following Big Brother, because they told them about salting the fish in the previous Detour. (Toyouke: "I mean...I guess")

4- Emily/Molly

5- Marcus/Michael

Teams open their clues and we get the ninth Detour Clue.

DETOUR:

Bend Over Backwards OR Dress For Success

*Bend Over Backwards: Teams make their way on foot to the Arab Baths and build a self supporting arch. Once the construction workers approve the structure and remove the supports, the foreman gives teams their next clue.

*Dress For Success: Teams make their way on foot to El Casino, where they watch a flamenco routine. Teams then pick a model and accessorize her with the correct shawl, castanets, earrings, roses, and shawl clip. Teams make their way on foot to Hispania Flamenco to purchase the correct items and place them on the model correctly. Once correct, the model will give them their next clue.

1- Luis/Michelle choose Dress For Success

2- Derek/Claire choose Dress For Success

3- Aubrey/David choose Dress For Success (Toyouke: "WE KNOW YOU'RE A DANCER AUBREY literally this is the only facet of her personality she ever talks about")

4- Emily/Molly choose Dress For Success

5- Marcus/Michael choose Bend Over Backwards

Much model dressing and arch building ensues. So, teams complete the detour in the following order:

1- Luis/Michelle

2- Aubrey/David

3- Derek/Claire

4- Emily/Molly

5- Marcus/Michael

Teams are now instructed to make their way to Paseo de Kazunori Yamauchi and find the wood carver who will give them their next clue, which happens to be near Puente Nuevo. Teams arrive and get their clue in the following order:

1- Luis/Michelle

2- Aubrey/David

3- Derek/Claire

4- Emily/Molly

5- Marcus/Michael

When they rip open the clue, teams get the tenth roadblock.

ROADBLOCK:

Who’s been paying attention?

In this roadblock, one team member must return to Puente Nuevo and walk a tightrope 300 feet in the air. When they reach the other side, the roadblocker must remember the Andalusian flag from earlier, and pick the clue with it. When they return across the tightrope and find their partner, they can open the clue. If it is correct, teams may proceed. If not, they must return to the tightrope and cross again until they get the correct clue. (Toyouke: "I don't know if I like tricking people about the tightrope by pretending this is a memory challenge.")

The following teammates take the Roadblock:

1- Michelle

2- Aubrey

3- Claire

4- Emily

5- Michael

After much tightrope walking (and correctly choosing clues), teams complete the Roadblock in the following order:

1- Luis/Michelle

2- Aubrey/David

3- Derek/Claire – and Claire promptly breaks down when reunited with Derek.

4- Emily/Molly

5- Marcus/Michael

Teams are now instructed to travel on foot to “the terrace between Ernest and Orson”, which is in the Mirador de Ronda between statues of Orson Welles and Ernest Hemingway, the PIT STOP of the eighth leg of this racearoundtheworld. The last team to arrive WILL be eliminated!

1- Luis/Michelle – who win Expedia Reward Points for a 5 day trip to Tokyo, Japan. (Toyouke: “Why didn't they win the actual trip? Why is the prize "reward points"?”)

2- Aubrey/David

3- Derek/Claire

4- Emily/Molly

5- Marcus/Michael

And Marcus and Michael are eliminated. Marcus blames himself for not paying attention and costing his brother a half million dollars. Michael is just blessed to have been here.

ORDER NOW:

1st – Luis/Michelle

2nd – Aubrey/David

3rd – Derek/Claire

4th – Emily/Molly

Next week: Iceland! Helicopter rides! Swimming! Waterfalls! Jeeps! Until next time!
