Welcome to Leg 6! Last time, on COVID Can’t Just Leave Us Alone, 8 teams tried to depart for their second leg in Jordan, but Abby and Will had a positive COVID test, so they were eliminated at the beginning of the leg. Derek can’t speak Arabic, and Glenda and Lumumba have issues dancing, so Luis and Michelle, after a pit of a rough start, finish first again. Glenda and Lumumba are the last team to arrive, and will be leaving 45 minutes behind the first group at the next Pit Start. Who will be eliminated. . . next? (click for more)
Arrival at the pit stop last episode:

Teams are whisked away to Queen Alia International Airport, and their charter flight to a new destination, Dordogne, France. Teams are transported by Amazing Yellow Line 1600 miles to France, where they find their way to the Land of 1001 Castles, and their next Pit Start.
Chateau de Beynac, Deynac-et-Cazenac, Dordogne, France
Teams are dismissed by horn at their appointed times.
First Departure 8:45 am
Luis/Michelle (1st)
Aubrey/David (2nd) – who have been together 2 and a half years, and explain that communication is hard.
Second Departure 9:00 am
Quinton/Mattie (3rd)
Derek/Claire (4th)
Third Departure 9:15 am
Marcus/Michael (5th)
Emily/Molly (6th) – and Emily’s leg is still hurting from 2 legs ago.
Fourth Departure 9:30 am
Glenda/Lumumba (7th) – who promptly drive themselves into a ditch. But a friendly French farmer helps out!
(Toyouke: “This time spread isn't that bad. But it might increase based on this display of map reading skills.”) Teams get their clue in the following order:
1- Luis/Michelle
2- Aubrey/David
3- Quinton/Mattie
4- Derek/Claire
5- Marcus/Michael
6- Emily/Molly
7- Glenda/Lumumba
Clue: Welcome to France! Drive yourselves to Chateau de Commarque.
So teams make their way to the castle to get their next clue. Teams arrive in the following order:
1- Luis/Michelle
2- Quinton/Mattie
3- Marcus/Michael
4- Emily/Molly
5- Derek/Claire
6- Aubrey/David
7- Glenda/Lumumba
When they rip open the clue, teams get the seventh roadblock.
ROADBLOCK:
Who wants to climb the family tree?
In this roadblock, one team member must memorize crests of the women of the Commarque family tree, then rappel 131 feet down the side of the castle to take a memory test matching names to crests. Once complete, the proctor will give them their next clue. If incorrect, teams must rappel back down the castle before trying again.
The following teammates take the Roadblock:
1- Michelle
2- Mattie
3- Michael
4- Emily
5- Derek
6- David
7- Lumumba
(Toyouke: “Great idea, they have the time for them to go see which family crests they need to remember. It's not like the Race is going to change which ones they need for the next time she comes down.”) After much rappelling and quizzing, which most everyone did at least twice, teams complete the Roadblock in the following order:
1- Luis/Michelle
2- Quinton/Mattie
3- Emily/Molly
4- Derek/Claire
5- Marcus/Michael
6- Aubrey/David
7- Glenda/Lumumba
Teams are now instructed to drive themselves to La Ferme de Turnac to get their next clue. Teams arrive in the following order:
1- Marcus/Michael – because everyone else got lost, even though they left their keys in the castle and had to go get them. (Toyouke: “Why did he leave that stuff there?!?!”)
2- Luis/Michelle
3- Emily/Molly
4- Aubrey/David
5- Derek/Claire
6- Quinton/Mattie
7- Glenda/Lumumba
Teams open their clues and we get the sixth Detour Clue.
DETOUR:
Walnut Cracker OR Medieval Gamer
*Walnut Cracker: Teams find and crack enough walnuts to make walnut oil and fill a container to a line. Once complete, the artisan will give them their next clue.
*Medieval Gamer: Teams play three medieval games: Lancer de Sac, where you must toss two bags onto a tall pole; Plateau d’Equilibre, where you must place stones on an uneven balance and get them to remain on the platform; and Petit Gruyere, where you must use two ropes to pull a ball up a board full of holes. (Toyouke: “This feels like they hired a Survivor challenge designer.”) The games can be completed in any order. Once they complete all three, the juggler will give them their next clue.
1- Marcus/Michael choose Walnut Cracker – (Toyouke: “They should have to shake the trees to get walnuts.”)
2- Luis/Michelle choose Medieval Gamer – but choose to do Petit Gruyere first and become the first Bald Snark of the season by switching and going to Walnut Cracker.
3- Emily/Molly choose Walnut Cracker
4- Aubrey/David choose Walnut Cracker
5- Derek/Claire choose Medieval Gamer - but only after they wander over to Walnut Cracker and notice everyone else is over there, so they hedge their bets. Their order is Lancer de Sac, Plateau d’Equilibre, Petit Gruyere.
6- Quinton/Mattie choose Walnut Cracker
7- Glenda/Lumumba choose Medieval Gamer - Their order is Plateau d’Equilibre, Lancer de Sac, Petit Gruyere.
Much walnut cracking and game playing ensues. So, teams complete the detour in the following order:
1- Marcus/Michael
2- Derek/Claire
3- Emily/Molly
4- Luis/Michelle
5- Aubrey/David
6- Quinton/Mattie
7- Glenda/Lumumba
Teams are now instructed to drives themselves to the Panorama in the town of Domme, the PIT STOP of the sixth leg of this racearoundtheworld. The last team to arrive WILL be eliminated!
1- Marcus/Michael – who win $7500 each.
2- Emily/Molly
3- Derek/Claire
4- Luis/Michelle
5- Quinton/Mattie
6- Aubrey/David
7- Glenda/Lumumba
And Glenda and Lumumba are the last team to arrive, and are eliminated from the race. They say they got what they wanted, and it’s the beginning of their race together.
ORDER NOW:
1st – Marcus/Michael
2nd – Emily/Molly
3rd – Derek/Claire
4th – Luis/Michelle
5th – Quinton/Mattie
6th – Aubrey/David
Next week: Toulouse! Teams can’t play rugby. Apparently Derek and Luis have a bromance. And you have to say it in French! Until next time!
