TAR 34, Recap Leg 7, 11/9/22

 

Welcome to Leg 7! Last time, on It’s a Good Day to Storm the Castle, 7 teams made their way to France. Glenda and Lumumba managed to drive their car into a ditch, and the brothers made lots of mistakes, but still managed to finish in first. As usual, Aubrey and David manage to skirt out of last place, and Glenda and Lumumba are eliminated. Who will be eliminated. . . next? (click for more)

Arrival at the pit stop last episode:

1st – Marcus and Michael, Team Military Bros

2nd – Emily and Molly, Team Long Lost Twins

3rd – Derek and Claire, Team Big Brother

4th – Luis and Michelle, Team Miami Croquetas

5th – Quinton and Mattie, Team NFL Cheerleaders

6th – Aubrey and David, Team Ballroom Dance

Teams spend their Pit Stop at a lodging of their choice, using the Expedia App. Oh, product placement. Teams are then released to start racing at their appointed times.

First Departure 8:00 am

Marcus/Michael (1st)

Emily/Molly (2nd) – and Emily’s leg is still hurting from 3 legs ago.

Second Departure 8:15 am

Derek/Claire (3rd)

Luis/Michelle (4th) – and we learn Luis and Derek have a bromance going.

Third Departure 8:30 am

Quinton/Mattie (5th)

Aubrey/David (6th)

Teams get their clue in the following order:

1- Marcus/Michael

2- Emily/Molly

3- Derek/Claire

4- Luis/Michelle

5- Quinton/Mattie

6- Aubrey/David

Clue: Drive yourselves 100 miles to Toulouse, France! Once there, find Stade Toulousain to get your next clue.

So teams make their way to the stadium to get their next clue. Teams arrive in the following order:

1- Emily/Molly

2- Luis/Michelle

3- Derek/Claire

4- Marcus/Michael – who took the wrong exit to the stadium.

5- Aubrey/David

6- Quinton/Mattie - who also took the wrong exit to the stadium.

When they rip open the clue, teams get the eighth roadblock.

ROADBLOCK:

Who’s ready to take one for the team?

In this roadblock, one team member must complete a rugby training drill with the Women’s Toulouse rugby team and successfully perform a drop kick. Once complete, teams get their next clue.

The following teammates take the Roadblock:

After much rugby playing, which most everyone did at least four times, teams complete the Roadblock in the following order:

1- Emily/Molly

6- Quinton/Mattie

Teams are now instructed to drive themselves to Couvent des Jacobins to get their next clue. Teams arrive in the following order:

1- Derek/Claire

2- Luis/Michelle

3- Emily/Molly

4- Marcus/Michael

5- Aubrey/David

6- Quinton/Mattie

Teams open their clues and we get the seventh Detour Clue.

DETOUR:

Say Six OR Lay Bricks

*Say Six: Teams make their way to Place Saint-Sernin and wander around the church to find three poets, each with two lines of “Demain des l’aube” by Victor Hugo. Once teams have memorized all six lines, they must recite them for a proctor correctly in order to get their next clue. (Toyouke: "I don't even speak French and this is painful to watch.")

*Lay Bricks: Teams travel to Promenade de Docteur Charles Rose and recreate a brick pattern in the sidewalk. Once completed correctly, teams get their next clue.

1- Luis/Michelle choose Say Six – but then realize that they aren’t that good at memorizing of pronunciation, and Bald Snark to Lay Bricks.

2- Derek/Claire choose Say Six

3- Emily/Molly choose Lay Bricks

4- Aubrey/David choose Say Six

5- Marcus/Michael choose Say Six

6- Quinton/Mattie choose Say Six

Much poem reciting and brick laying ensues. So, teams complete the detour in the following order:

1- Derek/Claire

2- Luis/Michelle

3- Emily/Molly

4- Marcus/Michael

5- Aubrey/David

6- Quinton/Mattie

Teams are now instructed to drives themselves to the Canal de Brienne and find Pays d’Oc, the PIT STOP of the seventh leg of this racearoundtheworld. The last team to arrive WILL be eliminated!

1- Derek/Claire – who win Expedia Reward Points for a five night trip for 2 to Bangkok, Thailand.

2- Luis/Michelle

3- Emily/Molly

4- Marcus/Michael

5- Aubrey/David

6- Quinton/Mattie

And Quinton and Matie are eliminated. They say it isn’t how they wanted to go. Isn’t that always the case?
