TAR 32, Recap Leg 4, 11/4/20

Welcome to Leg 4! Last time, on Seriously, Read the Clue, 9 teams raced to Manaus, Brazil and into the heart of the Amazon. Will and James solidified the 6 AM Salt Mine Departure Alliance, and somehow took out a vendetta against Leo and Alana. Everyone forgot items and bags before they got on the bpats to the Amazon, but it affected Jerry and Frank the most, who made it all the way to the village before realizing they need it. Will and James U-Turned Leo and Alana, and Kaylynn and Haley saved them a little bit by U-Turning Jerry and Frank, who ended up getting eliminated. Who will be eliminated. . . next? (click for more)

Arrival at the pit stop last episode:

1st – Will and James, Team Gay Reality Stars

2nd – Hung and Chee, The Honeymooning Asians

3rd – Kaylynn and Haley, Team Blonde Real Estate

4th – Riley and Maddison, The Hawaiian Volleyball Brothers

5th – DeAngelo and Gary, Team Another Mother Brothers

6th – Eswar and Aparna, The Engineer Siblings

7th – Michelle and Victoria, The Cajun Asians

8th – Leo and Alana, Team Operation Nerdgasm

Barca Corrêa Filho, Rio Negro, Brazil

Teams are on a boat, which cruises down the Rio Negro, back to Manaus.

11:11 PM Will/James (1st) – who remind us about their alliance and how they are going to help other teams. Girl, please.

Clue: Fly 1500 miles to Asunción, Paraguay! Once there, make your way to the Cateura landfill and find Orquesta de Reciclados de Cateura to get your next clue.

11:18 PM Hung/Chee (2nd) – who reveal that everyone is getting on the 3 am flight.

11:33 PM Kaylynn/Haley (3rd) – who remind us that they both left home in their teens and are very resilient.

11:37 PM Riley/Maddison (4th) – who for some reason tell us that they are used to playing in double elimination tournaments so they are used to second chances. NEL anyone?

11:43 PM DeAngelo/Gary (5th)

12:42 AM Eswar/Aparna (6th)

12:56 AM Michelle/Victoria (7th) – Michelle: “Paraguay, isn’t that in Africa? I know Uruguay is.” Oh darling, please.

1:57 AM Leo/Alana (8th) – who are still upset at Will and James, and make sure they know it when everyone is on the boat together.

So teams make their way to the airport and arrive in the following order:

1- Will/James

2- Hung/Chee

3- Kaylynn/Haley

4- Riley/Maddison

5- DeAngelo/Gary

6- Eswar/Aparna

7- Michelle/Victoria

8- Leo/Alana

As they are waiting for the 3 am flight to Asunción, Will and James and Hung and Chee print out maps for the 6 AM Salt Mine Departure Alliance, and use DeAngelo and Gary to help them hand them out secretly. (Toyouke: “I still hate this alliance but obviously you should look stuff up.”) The Amazing Orange Line then takes us from Manaus to Asunción, and teams arrive at Silvio Pettirossi International Airport in the following order:

1- DeAngelo/Gary

2- Eswar/Aparna

3- Riley/Maddison

4- Kaylynn/Haley

5- Michelle/Victoria

6- Will/James

7- Leo/Alana

8- Hung/Chee

Teams now make their way to the Orquesto de Reciclados de Cateura and arrive in the following order:

1- Riley/Maddison

2- Eswar/Aparna

3- Leo/Alana

4- DeAngelo/Gary

5- Hung/Chee

6- Will/James – who switched cabs when they found out their first one didn’t know where to go. (Toyouke: “Didn't they print out maps? They told you where you were going, why would you not get directions from the airport? Whatever, this is the kind of strategery I expect from these two.”)

7- Michelle/Victoria – who switched cabs when they found out their first one didn’t know where to go.

8- Kaylynn/Haley – who stayed with their cab when they found out that their driver didn’t know where they were going. Resilient, huh? (Toyouke: “Oh good some old fashioned racism.”)

When they rip open the clue, teams get the third roadblock.

ROADBLOCK:

Who is feeling instrumental?

In this roadblock, one team member must pick up materials from the landfill to make a cello. Once they collect the materials, additional tools, materials and an example are in the building area. Once complete, the roadblocker gets approval from a craftsman ,and take the instrument to the Recycled Orchestra, where they will play it and give teams their next clue.

(Toyouke: “I could see how you would read the clue and expect to have to play an instrument.”)

The following teammates take the Roadblock:

1- Maddison

2- Eswar

3- Leo – who smugly makes his while the Alliance helps each other.

4- DeAngelo

5- Chee

6- James – who is using his alliance to ask questions. (Toyouke: “I don't see anyone having questions but YOU which makes it look like you made this alliance because you suck too much to survive otherwise. A completely plausible reason.”)

7- Michelle

8- Kaylynn

After much cello making (which takes teams anywhere from an hour to four hours) (Toyouke: “Honestly an hour to make a cello, even out of trash, is pretty fast.”), teams complete the Roadblock in the following order:

1- DeAngelo/Gary

2- Will/James

3- Hung/Chee

4- Leo/Alana

5- Riley/Maddison

6- Michelle/Victoria

7- Eswar/Aparna

8- Kaylynn/Haley

Teams are now instructed to take a taxi to the Tereré Vendor at Mercado 4.

CAUTION: YIELD AHEAD! HAVE YOUR HOURGLASS READY!

Teams arrive at the Yield at Mercado 4 in the following order:

1- DeAngelo/Gary

2- Will/James

3- Hung/Chee

4- Leo/Alana

5- Riley/Maddison

6- Michelle/Victoria

7- Eswar/Aparna

8- Kaylynn/Haley

This is the second Yield of the race. Teams may choose to yield any team they wish (well, the team has to be behind them), but they may only use the Yield once during the race. If a team is yielded, they must turn over the hourglass that the Yielders found on Leg 2 and wait for the predetermined amount of time (10 or 20 minutes) based on the hourglass.

Teams make their Yield decisions in the following order:

1- DeAngelo/Gary (20) choose to Yield no one

2- Will/James (20) choose to Yield no one

3- Hung/Chee (10) choose to Yield no one

4- Leo/Alana (10) choose to Yield no one – because they wanted to Yield Will/James and couldn’t.

5- Riley/Maddison (20) choose to Yield no one

6- Michelle/Victoria (20) choose to Yield no one

7- Eswar/Aparna (10) choose to Yield no one

8- Kaylynn/Haley (20) choose to Yield no one

Teams get their next clue in the following order:

1- DeAngelo/Gary

2- Will/James

3- Hung/Chee

4- Leo/Alana

5- Riley/Maddison

6- Michelle/Victoria

7- Eswar/Aparna

8- Kaylynn/Haley

Teams are now instructed to make the national drink of Paraguay, Tereré, in a traditional method and fill a thermos which they will take with them for the rest of the leg. Teams make their tereré in the following order:

1- DeAngelo/Gary

2- Will/James

3- Hung/Chee

4- Leo/Alana

5- Riley/Maddison

6- Michelle/Victoria

7- Eswar/Aparna

8- Kaylynn/Haley

Teams open their envelopes and we get the second Detour Clue.

DETOUR:

Stack Your Melons OR Use Your Melons

*Stack Your Melons: Teams travel to Plaza O’Leary and use watermelons to create a pyramid, a Switchback to one of the Detour choices in Paraguay in TAR20. Once completed properly, the watermelon vendor will give them their next clue.

*Use Your Melons: Teams travel to Estacion Central del Ferrocarril and perform a traditional bottle dance, a Switchback to the Roadblock in Paraguay in TAR20. Both team members must complete a choreographed dance. Once completed correctly, the choreographer will give them their next clue.

1- DeAngelo/Gary choose Stack Your Melons – Gary: “Throwing watermelons is in our skill set.” (Toyouke: “I would love to know why the NFL boys keep screwing up and their pile keeps falling.”)

2- Will/James choose Use Your Melons – because they actually practiced this task before going on the Race.

3- Hung/Chee choose Use Your Melons – and in our first Bald Snark of the season, Hung can’t get the bottle to balance properly on her head, so they go to Stack Your Melons, where they start bickering. (Toyouke: “I knew Hung and Chee would have a fight eventually.”)

4- Leo/Alana choose Use Your Melons – (Toyouke: “Why does everyone just drop the bottles and break them on the ground when they're done? How obnoxious, someone has to clean that up.”)

5- Riley/Maddison choose Stack Your Melons

6- Michelle/Victoria choose Use Your Melons

7- Eswar/Aparna choose Use Your Melons – (Toyouke: “'We need to get this before the blondes get here' is a good statement in theory, but it ignores the fact that the blondes might go to the other Detour and you'll never know it.”)

8- Kaylynn/Haley choose Use Your Melons

Much watermelon stacking and bottle dancing ensues. (Toyouke: “I love the local practically shielding her child like it's so horrific children shouldn't look. Followed immediately by the Trombone of Disappointment.”) So, teams complete the detour in the following order:

1- Will/James

2- Michelle/Victoria

3- Leo/Alana

4- Riley/Maddison

5- Eswar/Aparna

6- Hung/Chee

7- DeAngelo/Gary

8- Kaylynn/Haley

Teams are now instructed to make their way to Plaza Italia, the PIT STOP of the fourth leg of this racearoundtheworld. The last team to arrive MAY be eliminated!

1- Will/James – who win $5000 each! (Toyouke: “Will and James are starting to bug me. Are they too stereotypical? Is it because they clearly think they're better than everyone because they're bigger fans? I'm not sure.”)

2- Michelle/Victoria

3- Leo/Alana

4- Riley/Maddison

5- Eswar/Aparna

6- Hung/Chee – and Chee says he needs to communicate more.

7- DeAngelo/Gary

8- Kaylynn/Haley

And Kaylynn and Haley are the last team to arrive, but this is the first of three predetermined Non-Elimination Legs and they are still in the race! They will have to perform a Speed Bump on the next leg, however. (Toyouke: “OK you cannot brag about how you left home when you were a teenager and that's why you are so close to your sister and you're amazing and have so many street smarts, and then try to gain sympathy by saying you are racing to give your dad money.”)

ORDER NOW:

1st – Will/James

2nd – Michelle/Victoria

3rd – Leo/Alana

4th – Riley/Maddison

5th – Eswar/Aparna

6th – Hung/Chee

7th – DeAngelo/Gary

8th – Kaylynn/Haley

Next week: Paris, France! And Will and James forgot to practice how to drive a stick, apparently. Until next time!
