TAR 32, Recap Leg 6, 11/18/20

Welcome to Leg 6! Last time, on Getting Lost in France in Six And a Half Hours or Less, 8 teams raced to Paris, France. Kaylynn and Haley continued to be slow, and Will and James, who bragged about driving stick, actually got help from Leo to get out of the garage. Riley and Maddison helped the finally christened Mine Five Alliance by telling them about the pie throwing and then won the leg. Michelle and Victoria got hopelessly lost, and were eliminated. Who will be eliminated. . . next? (click for more)

Arrival at the pit stop last episode:

1st – Riley and Maddison, The Hawaiian Volleyball Brothers

2nd – Hung and Chee, The Honeymooning Asians

3rd – Leo and Alana, Team Operation Nerdgasm

4th – Will and James, Team Gay Reality Stars

5th – DeAngelo and Gary, Team Another Mother Brothers

6th – Eswar and Aparna, The Engineer Siblings

7th – Kaylynn and Haley, Team Blonde Real Estate

Pont des Arts, Paris, France

12:25 AM Riley/Maddison (1st) – who brag about reading clues well. They also reveal the nicknames for the people in their “Mine Five” Alliance: The Beard Bros, CheeHu, The Boyfriends, Football, and The Siblings. (Toyouke: “Did he just call them "CheeHu"?”)

Clue: Travel by train 500 miles to Berlin, Germany! Once there, make your way to the East Side Gallery and find the marked suitcase to get your next clue!

(Toyouke: “A train in Europe for once. I'm sure the next train leaves in the morning.”)

12:47 AM Hung/Chee (2nd)

12:58 AM Leo/Alana (3rd)

1:21 AM Will/James (4th) – who ask if they are going to have to drive in Germany.

2:15 AM DeAngelo/Gary (5th)

2:25 AM Eswar/Aparna (6th)

5:15 AM Kaylynn/Haley (7th)

So teams make their way to Gare de l’Est and arrive in the following order:

1- Riley/Maddison

2- Hung/Chee

3- Leo/Alana

4- Will/James

5- DeAngelo/Gary

6- Eswar/Aparna

7- Kaylynn/Haley

Everyone ends up on the same train to Berlin, and teams arrive at Berlin Hauptbahnhof in the following order:

1- Riley/Maddison

2- Hung/Chee

3- Will/James

4- DeAngelo/Gary

5- Leo/Alana

6- Eswar/Aparna

7- Kaylynn/Haley – who get a snarky cab driver: “Why don’t you run faster, you don’t look fat.”

(Toyouke: “OK did they farm cabs? Because these drivers speak excellent English. Is that just very common in Germany?” Kmanpat: “Oh, English is very prevalent in Germany, especially Berlin.”) So teams now taxi to the East Side Gallery, and find the clue in the following order:

1- Will/James

2- Riley/Maddison

3- Kaylynn/Haley

4- Eswar/Aparna

5- DeAngelo/Gary

6- Hung/Chee

7- Leo/Alana

Teams are now instructed to choose a marked Trabant and drive it to Teledisko, the world’s smallest disco bar, and dance for three minutes in order to get a photo with their next clue on it. (Toyouke: “What is the point of this. Wait is this an anti-bunch?“) Teams drive to Teledisko and arrive in the following order:

1- DeAngelo/Gary

2- Riley/Maddison

3- Hung/Chee

4- Will/James

5- Leo/Alana

6- Eswar/Aparna

7- Kaylynn/Haley

Teams dance their three minutes away and get their photos and clues in the following order:

1- DeAngelo/Gary

2- Riley/Maddison – who dance inside with . . .

3- Hung/Chee – (Toyouke: “I can't believe they crammed two teams in there.”)

4- Will/James – who decide to follow other teams leaving Teledisko and promptly get left behind. (Toyouke: “This is why following people is so dangerous. Especially when you don't have your own set of instructions just in case.”)

5- Leo/Alana

6- Eswar/Aparna

7- Kaylynn/Haley

CAUTION: YIELD AHEAD! HAVE YOUR HOURGLASS READY!

The photo says: “Drive to Andel’s Hotel and Park Out Front.” Also, we learn that there is a Yield waiting for them. Teams drive themselves in their Trabants to Andel’s Hotel and arrive at the Yield in the following order:

1- DeAngelo/Gary

2- Riley/Maddison

3- Hung/Chee

4- Will/James – who end up having car issues and park their car and run the rest of the way to Andel’s Hotel. I feel like there should be a penalty for that. (Toyouke: “If you break the car yourself, do you get a replacement car? I feel like the car has to break "through no fault of their own"? But you might also get in trouble for abandoning the car?”)

5- Eswar/Aparna

6- Leo/Alana

7- Kaylynn/Haley

This is the fourth Yield of the race. Teams may choose to yield any team they wish (well, the team has to be behind them), but they may only use the Yield once during the race. If a team is yielded, they must turn over the hourglass that the Yielders found on Leg 2 and wait for the predetermined amount of time (10 or 20 minutes) based on the hourglass.

Teams make their Yield decisions in the following order:

1- DeAngelo/Gary (20) choose to Yield no one

2- Riley/Maddison (20) choose to Yield no one

3- Hung/Chee (10) choose to Yield no one

4- Will/James (20) choose to Yield no one

5- Eswar/Aparna (10) choose to Yield no one

6- Leo/Alana (10) choose to Yield no one

7- Kaylynn/Haley (20) choose to Yield no one

Teams get their next clue in the following order:

1- DeAngelo/Gary

2- Riley/Maddison

3- Hung/Chee

4- Will/James

5- Eswar/Aparna

6- Leo/Alana

7- Kaylynn/Haley

When they rip open the clue, teams get the sixth roadblock.

ROADBLOCK:

Who wants to feel the wind in their hair?

In this roadblock, one team member must rappel face-first nearly 180 feet down Andel's Hotel and memorize flashing letters while rappelling. Once on the ground, roadblockers must unscramble the letters and spell the word 'sauerkraut' in order to get their next clue from the proctor.

(Toyouke: “Remember when a face-forward rappel was enough of a task that you didn't have to add climbing stairs and unscrambling letters? Letters that blink on and off?”) The following teammates take the Roadblock:

1- DeAngelo

2- Maddison

3- Hung – (Toyouke: “Even while shrieking the whole way down Hung figured it out. They're a stronger team than I thought.”)

4- Will

5- Aparna

6- Leo

7- Haley

(Toyouke: “Why are the tasks so wildly uneven? "Drive this old car" "Dance for 4 minutes" "Unscramble blinking letters while walking face first down the side of a building"”) After much rappelling and sauerkraut spelling, teams complete the Roadblock in the following order:

1- Hung/Chee – who hang around to tell their alliance about the word. And then lose a taxi to one of those teams. (Toyouke: “See I don't mind the concept of helping people, but I do not like that they're waiting for other teams. It'd be different if they were all finishing at the same time.”)

2- DeAngelo/Gary

3- Riley/Maddison

4- Will/James

5- Leo/Alana – who choose not to help Kaylynn and Haley by giving them the word. (Toyouke: “Leo didn't help so much that he affected his own placement which is how it should be. Helping is one thing, which I don't necessarily agree with, but I absolutely draw the line at putting your own placement in jeopardy.”)

6- Eswar/Aparna

7- Kaylynn/Haley

Teams open their envelopes and we get the third Detour Clue.

DETOUR:

Belt It Out OR Belch It Out

*Belt It Out: Teams travel to Ballhaus Berlin, don chicken tuxedos, and learn the German lyrics of the "I wish I were a chicken" in order to perform with the Berlin Comedian Harmonists. Once completed properly and with enough energy, the lead singer gives them their next clue.

*Belch It Out: Teams travel to Bieryoga and learn four beer yoga moves (Beer Salutation, Beer Chair, Beer Boat, Beer Dancer). Both team members must then tach a yoga class with those four moves. Once completed correctly, the beer yoga instructor will give them their next clue.

1- DeAngelo/Gary choose Belch It Out

2- Hung/Chee choose Belch It Out

3- Riley/Maddison choose Belch It Out

4- Will/James choose Belt It Out – (Toyouke: “Oh you get cue cards? Pff”)

5- Eswar/Aparna choose Belt It Out

6- Leo/Alana choose Belt It Out

7- Kaylynn/Haley choose Belt It Out

Much chicken singing and beer yoga ensues. So, teams complete the detour in the following order:

1- DeAngelo/Gary

2- Hung/Chee

3- Riley/Maddison

4- Will/James

5- Eswar/Aparna

6- Leo/Alana

7- Kaylynn/Haley

Teams are now instructed to make their way to the neighborhood of Neukolln, the PIT STOP of the sixth leg of this racearoundtheworld. The last team to arrive MAY be eliminated!

1- DeAngelo/Gary – who win $7500 each.

2- Riley/Maddison

3- Hung/Chee – who get scolded by Phil for coming in third. (Toyouke: “Oh PHIL. I am 100% positive this isn't the first team that screwed their placement for an alliance. But I'm glad that Chee at least is thinking about how dumb that was.”)

4- Will/James – who are the first chickens to arrive.

5- Eswar/Aparna

6- Leo/Alana

7- Kaylynn/Haley

And Kaylynn and Haley are the last team to arrive, but this is the second of three predetermined Non-Elimination Legs and they are still in the race! They will have to perform a Speed Bump on the next leg, however.

ORDER NOW:

1st – DeAngelo/Gary

2nd – Riley/Maddison

3rd – Hung/Chee

4th – Will/James

5th – Eswar/Aparna

6th – Leo/Alana

7th – Kaylynn/Haley

Next week: Kazakhstan! Snow! Yurts! Falling! Until next time!
