TAR 30, Recap Leg 9, 2/14/18

Welcome to Leg 9! Last time, on Let’s Make Everyone Sing In a Foreign Language to Laugh At Them!, 6 teams continued racing through Zimbabwe. We encounter the second double U-turn of the race, and Big Brother and Yale are U-Turned. But this all doesn’t matter, because it’s the twins who can’t sing or dance, and come in last at the Pit Stop. Who will be eliminated. . . next? (click for more)

Arrival at the pit stop last episode:

8:41 AM Lucas/Brittany (1st)

Clue: Fly to Muharraq, Bahrain! Once there, choose one of the marked vehicles and drive yourselves to the Dhow Shipyard to get your next clue.

(Toyouke: “"Ocean Spray" isn't their name, but I like it better than their actual name.”)

8:46 AM Kristi/Jen (2nd) – who remind us that as a team, they have yet to finish below third. (Toyouke: "Which is why you should have been U-Turned last leg instead of Cody and Jessica.")

9:05 AM Alex/Conor (3rd) – who are excited to return to Bahrain, because they have ben here ten times.

9:24 AM Henry/Evan (4th) – who are not bitter about the U-Turn, as they know it’s part of the game.

9:35 AM Cody/Jessica (5th) – and somehow, Jessica destroyed her sneakers? So they go back to Eastgate Mall to buy some. (Toyouke: “She's also complaining about not helping anyone else. This from the girl who was offended Evan wouldn't help her because she sucked at a Detour.”)

So, teams make their way to a travel agent to book tickets to Bahrain. They arrive in the following order:

1- Lucas/Brittany

2- Kristi/Jen

3- Alex/Conor

4- Henry/Evan

5- Cody/Jessica

Teams book tickets from Harare to Addis Ababa, Dubai, and then on to Muharraq. The Amazing Orange Line takes us to. . . Dubai? Well, teams arrive there in the following order:

1- Lucas/Brittany

2- Kristi/Jen

3- Alex/Conor

4- Henry/Evan

5- Cody/Jessica

So, why are we in Dubai? Well, apparently, Lucas, who we have been concerned about this entire season because of Ms. I-want-to-get-married-after-nine-years-of-dating has left his passport on the plane from Addis Ababa. (Toyouke: “Yeah, wouldn't Lucas need the passport to enter Dubai? So...only so many places it could be.”) So, Ocean Spray needs to go to the American Consulate in Dubai and get a new passport. (Toyouke: “Has anyone else tried to go to an embassy to get an expedited passport? The boys in Russia didn't? And they had time? It just seems like something someone would have tried before now, you know?”) Conor: “The first rule of Amazing Race club is to have your travel documents!” In the meantime, everyone else gets on the plane to Bahrain. Teams arrive in Bahrain in the following order:

1- Alex/Conor

2- Cody/Jessica

3- Kristi/Jen

4- Henry/Evan

5- Lucas/Brittany – who arrive in the evening. Which is not good.

Teams find the marked cars and make their way to the Dhow Shipyard. Teams arrive in the following order:

1- Alex/Conor

2- Kristi/Jen

3- Henry/Evan

4- Cody/Jessica

5- Lucas/Brittany – who arrive here. We’ll get back to this later.

Teams are now instructed that It’s Time to Haul Some Timber! Teams are instructed to carry wood to a nearby scale. Once the scale weighs out 300 pounds in one weighing, teams get their next clue. They complete the task in the following order:

1- Kristi/Jen

2- Alex/Conor

3- Henry/Evan

4- Cody/Jessica – Jessica: “My boyfriend is Tonka tough like a cyborg.”

Teams rip open their clue and find that they must now drive themselves to Hussein Mohammad Showaiter Sweets to find the King of Halwa and get their next clue. (Toyouke: “OK so what is the twist of "sample a local treat"? That looks good, actually.”) Teams arrive in the following order:

1- Alex/Conor – Conor: “I’d rather hand upside down naked set on fire arms first than sit in traffic.” (Kmanpat: “Your Detour Options are Dangle or Delay.”)

2- Kristi/Jen

3- Cody/Jessica

4- Henry/Evan – who get lost due to navigational error along the way. (Toyouke: “How did Yale get so lost?”)

Teams are treated to Halwa and coffee and then receive their next clue. Teams are instructed to drive themselves to Delmon Pottery Industry in A’ali and search the grounds for their next clue. Teams arrive in the following order:

1- Cody/Jessica

2- Kristi/Jen

3- Henry/Evan

4- Alex/Conor

Teams are now instructed to Make a Match. Teams are instructed to choose a pouch of trinkets and look at all 10. Then, they must search the grounds for the matching trinkets, hidden inside the pots. Teams can only take one pot at a time to be checked. Once teams get all ten items, they get their next clue. (Toyouke: “Is this half a Detour or something? This task is dumb.”) They complete the task in the following order:

1- Cody/Jessica

2- Kristi/Jen

3- Alex/Conor

4- Henry/Evan – who get overheated on the task.

Teams are now instructed to drive themselves to Bahrain Endurance Village in Zallaq to get their next clue. Teams arrive in the following order:

1- Alex/Conor

2- Kristi/Jen

3- Henry/Evan

4- Cody/Jessica

Teams are now instructed to Milk a Camel. (Toyouke: “Why aren't there any proper clue boxes this leg?”) Teams must fill a cup up to a specified line with camel milk and have one of the locals drink it to get their next clue. They complete the task in the following order:

1- Alex/Conor – Conor: “Can we get malaria from camels?" (Toyouke: “Sigh. I like Indy Car but they say dumb things.” Kmanpat: “No, just Conor.”)

2- Kristi/Jen

3- Henry/Evan

4- Cody/Jessica

Teams find now that they must drive themselves to the Tree of Life, the PIT STOP of the ninth leg of this racearoundtheworld. The last team to arrive MAY be eliminated!

1- Alex/Conor – who win $7500 each.

2- Kristi/Jen

3- Henry/Evan

4- Cody/Jessica

5- Lucas/Brittany

Lucas and Brittany actually never made it to the Tree of Life, as Phil walks out of the shadows at Dhow Shipyard to let them know that everyone has checked in and they are eliminated from the race. Lucas breaks down as how he let everyone down. Calm down, cutie.
