TAR 30, Recap Leg 10, 2/14/18

Welcome to Leg 10! Last time, on Losing a Passport Can Be Hazardous to Your Health, 5 teams raced from Zimbabwe to Bahrain. Well, at least four of them did, because Ocean Spray lost a passport en route. There was wood carrying, halwa eating, pottery breaking and camel milking, but Lucas and Brittany showed up after all that happened, so they were eliminated. Who will be eliminated. . . next? 10:18 AM Alex/Conor (1st)

Clue: Fly 3000 miles to Chiang Mai, Thailand! Once there, choose a provided songthaew as your transportation and make your way to Royal Park Ratchaphruek and find the elephant statues to get your next clue.

(Toyouke: “This clue seems complicated, but it might just be overly specific.”)

10:40 AM Kristi/Jen (2nd)

11:25 AM Henry/Evan (3rd)

12:05 PM Cody/Jessica (4th)

So, teams make their way to the airport. They arrive in the following order:

1- Alex/Conor

2- Kristi/Jen

3- Henry/Evan – and Henry and Evan try to decide if there’s a better flight to Chiang Mai. (Toyouke: “I think I would risk it? Maybe? At this point, it's not like flights from Bahrain are going to be better than from Bangkok, necessarily.”)

4- Cody/Jessica

All teams get the same flight to Chiang Mai (of course). (Toyouke: “So they got on the flight anyway? So what was the point of all that drama? Furthermore, the last thing you showed was them saying they'd think about it, and then suddenly they were on the flight. I would have liked to see the thought process of them changing their minds. At least mentioning it underneath that voiceover about how they do their own thing or whatever.”) So teams get on their flights, and the Amazing Orange Line gets them to Chiang Mai in the following order:

1- Alex/Conor

2- Kristi/Jen

3- Henry/Evan

4- Cody/Jessica

Teams find their songthaews and make their way to Royal Park. They arrive in the following order:

1- Alex/Conor

2- Cody/Jessica

3- Henry/Evan

4- Kristi/Jen

Teams find the elephants and pull a garland off their ear. Teams are then instructed to search the grounds for a woman with an umbrella with only one garland to complete her set and get their next clue. Teams find a woman with an umbrella in the following order:

1- Alex/Conor

2- Henry/Evan

3- Kristi/Jen

4- Cody/Jessica

Teams open their clues and we get the Detour Clue.

DETOUR:

Size It OR Seize It

*Size It: Teams must travel to Patara Elephant Farm. Once there, teams must take the measurements of an elephant and do some calculations to determine its height and weight. Once a veterinarian has determined the calculations are correct, then teams ride the elephant along a trail to get their next clue.

*Seize It: Teams travel to Baan Kaew Rice Field and enter the rice paddies. They must then catch 20 bullfrogs to get their next clue.

1- Alex/Conor choose Seize It

2- Cody/Jessica choose Seize It – but really only Cody completes it. (Toyouke: “Oh no, frogs and rice paddies? Can't say I'm not enjoying Jessica's failing.”)

3- Kristi/Jen choose Seize It – but quickly Bald Snark to Size It when they realize they can’t find any frogs. In the meantime, there’s some drama about Yale being lost, and the drivers trying to talk to each other? (Toyouke: “Is this going to turn into a situation like that one leg where all the cab drivers talked to each other and followed each other and the last team was out because their cab driver wasn't in on it? Because I'm not watching this show for cab driver shenanigans.”)

4- Henry/Evan choose Size It – and Yale screws up the math.

Much frog catching and elephant measuring ensues. So, teams complete the detour in the following order:

1- Cody/Jessica

2- Alex/Conor

3- Kristi/Jen

4- Henry/Evan

Teams are now instructed to make their way to the Original Khum Khantoke Restaurant to get their next clue. Teams arrive in the following order:

1- Alex/Conor

2- Cody/Jessica

3- Kristi/Jen

4- Henry/Evan

When they rip open the clue, teams get the seventh roadblock.

ROADBLOCK:

Who wants to Thai something new?

In this roadblock, one team member must eat three cooked scorpions and a bullfrog in order to get their next clue. In the meantime, their teammate must stand with live scorpions crawling on them.

(Toyouke: “Roadblock at a restaurant = eating. However this challenge sucks ass.”)

The following teammates take the Roadblock:

1- Alex

2- Cody

3- Jen

4- Evan

After much scorpion and bullfrog eating, teams complete the Roadblock in the following order:

1- Alex/Conor

2- Cody/Jessica

3- Kristi/Jen

4- Henry/Evan

Teams find now that they must make their way to Wat Chedi Luang, the PIT STOP of the tenth leg of this racearoundtheworld. The last team to arrive MAY be eliminated!

1- Alex/Conor – who win a trip for 2 from Travelocity to Curaçao! Conor: “Where’s that?”

2- Cody/Jessica

3- Kristi/Jen

4- Henry/Evan

And Henry and Evan are the last team to arrive . . . but this is the third of the three non-elimination legs on the race! There will be a Speed Bump on the next leg that Henry and Evan must complete before they continue racing!
