TAR22, Recap Leg 7, 3/31/13

Welcome to Leg 7! Last time, on Can’t Go Anywhere Without My Bushmen,  teams raced from Vietnam to Botswana.  Chuck and Wynona were slow, as usual, but not as slow as Max and Katie, who managed to end up in last, and were saved by a non-elimination leg.  Who will be eliminated. . . next? (click for more)

Arrival at the pit stop last episode:
1st – Bates/Anthony, The Hockey Brothers
2nd – Pam/Winnie, The Token Asians
3rd – Chuck/Wynona, Sweet Old Alabama
4th – Joey/Meghan, Team YouTube Cutegasm

7th – Max/Katie, Team Honeymooners

Meno A Kwena Safari Camp, Makgadikgadi Oans National Park, Botswana

5:39 AM Bates/Anthony (1st)
Clue: Drive yourselves to Boro Village in order to get your next clue.

6:11 AM Pam/Winnie (2nd) – Winnie: “We’re best when we’re racing alone.”  Well, that seems like a wise idea. . .
 6:17 AM Chuck/Wynona (3rd)
6:23 AM Joey/Meghan (4th) – who get hopelessly lost.
6:28 AM Caroline/Jennifer (5th) – end up going too fast in Maun and come along a speed trap.  They are issued a speeding ticket which they have to pay before continuing. That means sending a kind stranger to exchange their American money.
6:37 AM Mona/Beth (6th)
6:49 AM Max/Katie (7th) – end up going too fast in Maun and come along a speed trap.  They are issued a speeding ticket which they have to pay before continuing.  Oh, and then Max hits a pole backing out of the parking lot.

So, eventually, teams get going in the right direction and make their way to Boro Village.  And when they get there, we find that Max and Katie have their Speed Bump.

SPEED BUMP:

A speed bump is a task that must be performed by the last place team on a non-elimination leg. Once they complete this task, they may return to the place where the speed bump occurred and continue the leg. In this speed bump, teams must join the locals in a ceremonial seduction dance and perform it to get their next clue.

Teams complete the Speed Bump in the following order:

1- Max/Katie

After much seduction dancing, they continue with the rest of the teams in getting the clue.

They arrive at the clue box in the following order:

1- Bates/Anthony
2- Pam/Winnie
3- Chuck/Wynona
4- Mona/Beth
5- Caroline/Jennifer
6- Joey/Meghan
7- Max/Katie

And Bates and Anthony arrive first finding . . . a Fast Forward!

FAST FORWARD:

Recall (if you can, since they show up rarely anymore) that a fast forward is a task that can be performed to allow one team to skip all remaining tasks and head directly to the pit stop.  However, each team may only use their fast forward power once on the race, so they must decide when it is more advantageous to use it.  In this, the first (?) fast forward on this race, teams must waterski in crocodile infested waters, staying up on the skis for a mile.  Once complete, they get their next clue and skip all remaining tasks and travel directly to the Pit Stop.

Teams decide to go for the Fast Forward in the following order:

1- Bates/Anthony

So – water skiing, Fast Forward for their team.  Bates and Anthony get their Fast Forward and travel to the PIT STOP at Royal Tree Lodge, but have to use some of the transportation that other teams use, so we’ll see them a bit still.

And once that’s all settled, teams get the eighth roadblock clue.

ROADBLOCK:

Who wants to go up a creek without a paddle?

In this roadblock, roadblockers must choose a canoe created from hollowing out a log and a pole to transport two baby goats up river.  The roadblocker’s teammate must be in the canoe as well, and is allowed to hold the goats, but must not physically help control the boat.  Once the goats are delivered, teams return to the starting point to get their clue.

The following teammates take the Roadblock:

1- Winnie
2- Wynona
3- Beth
4- Caroline
5- Joey
6- Max

After much goat wrangling and canoe pushing, teams finish the Roadblock in the following order:

1- Pam/Winnie
2- Chuck/Wynona
3- Caroline/Jennifer
4- Mona/Beth
5- Joey/Meghan
6- Max/Katie

Teams are now instructed to take a water taxi to Royal Tree Lodge and board a safari bus to get their next clue.  Teams arrive at the water taxis in the following order:

1- Bates/Anthony
2- Pam/Winnie
3- Chuck/Wynona
4- Caroline/Jennifer
5- Mona/Beth
6- Joey/Meghan
7- Max/Katie

Once teams arrive at Royal Tree Lodge, they board the safari buses in the following order:

1- Bates/Anthony
2- Pam/Winnie
3- Chuck/Wynona
4- Caroline/Jennifer
5- Mona/Beth
6- Joey/Meghan
7- Max/Katie

At this point, Bates and Anthony head to the Pit Stop on the grounds while the other teams find the next clue in the following order:

1- Pam/Winnie
2- Chuck/Wynona
3- Caroline/Jennifer
4- Mona/Beth
5- Joey/Meghan
6- Max/Katie

Teams now receive the Detour Clue.

DETOUR:
Brains OR Braun
*Brains: Teams must take a horseback safari and find ten animal cutouts.  At the end of the ride, they must put ten tiles in order so that they can get their next clue.  If a team messes up the order, they must do the safari again before trying to rearrange the tiles.  Once correct, teams get their next clue.
*Braun: Teams must get a wood sled and hook it up to a team of donkeys which need to be led by carrot a half mile.  Teams unload the sled and get their next clue.

(Toyouke: "Should have been called "Horse or Ass".)

1- Pam/Winnie choose Braun who have a hard time moving their donkeys.  So they Bald Snark to Brains when other teams start showing up.  But then they struggle at finding all the animals.  So they Double Bald Snark back to Braun, which they eventually finish.
2- Chuck/Wynona choose Brains
3- Caroline/Jennifer choose Braun
4- Mona/Beth choose Braun
5- Joey/Meghan choose Braun
6- Max/Katie choose Braun

Teams complete the detour in the following order:

1- Mona/Beth
2- Caroline/Jennifer
3- Chuck/Wynona
4- Joey/Meghan
5- Max/Katie
6- Pam/Winnie

Teams are now instructed to travel by foot to “where the river bends” on the grounds of Royal Tree Lodge, the PIT STOP of the seventh leg of this racearoundtheworld.  The last team to arrive may be eliminated!

1- Bates/Anthony –who win $7500 each.
2- Mona/Beth
3- Caroline/Jennifer
4- Chuck/Wynona
5- Joey/Meghan
6- Max/Katie
7- Pam/Winnie

And Pam and Winnie are eliminated, proving once again, that ostriches are excellent camouflage artists.

ORDER NOW:
1st – Bates/Anthony
2nd – Mona/Beth
3rd – Caroline/Jennifer
4th – Chuck/Wynona
5th – Joey/Meghan
6th – Max/Katie

Next week: Teams are off to Switzerland.  We revisit a favorite challenge from TAR14: Cheese sleds!  And there are gnomes!  And Wynona climbing mountains.  Until next time!
