TAR21, Recap Leg 8, 11/18/12

Welcome to Leg 8! Last time, on There’s No One Here But Us Muscovites, teams raced from Istanbul to Moscow.  Abbie and Ryan and the Beekmans found themselves stuck in Frankfurt, whereas Trey and Lexi moved out into first again.  James and Abba somehow managed to leave their passports in a Russian Cab.  When we last left our friends, we were in the middle of Leg 7.  Who will be eliminated. . . next? (click for more)

So, here’s what happens.  The Beekmans still need to finish the Detour at the pool.  However, the pool closes, so the instructor gives them one last chance.  They are unable to complete, and are given the clue and a four hour penalty.  Abbie and Ryan, who waited for the Beekmans (Toyouke: “I'm glad everyone is so nice to each other, but race. “), and the Beekmans race to the Trees of Love, where Josh figures out the pattern first, helps Abbie get her ribbon done, and teams head to the Bolshoi.  They are thrilled to find out that Abbie and Ryan are fourth and Josh and Brent are fifth.  James and Abba have been unable to find their passports, but are saved by a non-elimination leg.  (Toyouke: “STUPID. Stupid non-elimination leg. “)  They live to race again, work through a Speed Bump, and find their passports.

Now, for Leg 8.

Arrival at the Pit Stop last episode:
1st – Trey/Lexi, Sporty YDC
2nd – Jaymes/James, Team Eye Candy
3rd – Natalie/Nadiya, Bollywood Twins
4th – Abbie/Ryan, Sparkly YDC
5th – Josh/Brent, The Fabulous Beekman Boys
6th – James/Abba, Team Rock of Ages

Bolshoi Theater, Moscow, Russia

Trey/Lexi (1st)
Clue: Travel to Study Building Number 6 at the Agricultural Academy.  Once there, follow the marked path to Chemistry Auditorium Number 1 and get your next clue.

Jaymes/James (2nd)
Natalie/Nadiya (3rd)
Abbie/Ryan (4th)
Josh/Brent (5th) – who wait out a four hour penalty before starting their Race.  (Toyouke: “Oo, they're assuming James and Abba won't get passports in the next four hours.”)
James/Abba (6th) – who head to the Police Station first to see if they can track down their passport

(Toyouke: “No departure times? That is a TON of bullshit.  I mean, obviously they screw with the times, but at least make some up!”)

Teams arrive at the Study Building in the following order:

1- Jaymes/James
2- Trey/Lexi
– who end up in three different places first due to bad taxis.
3- Natalie/Nadiya
4- Abbie/Ryan
5- Josh/Brent
6- James/Abba

When teams arrive, they discover that the building rooms do not open until 8 am.  So, the Chips and Texas are forced to wait.  But then teams get their clue in the Chemistry Auditorium in the following order:

1- Jaymes/James
2- Trey/Lexi
3- Natalie/Nadiya
4- Abbie/Ryan
5- Josh/Brent
6- James/Abba

Once they arrive, James and Abba find themselves at a Speed Bump.

A speed bump is a task that must be performed by the last place team on a non-elimination leg. Once they complete this task, they may return to the place where the speed bump occurred and continue the leg. In this speed bump, teams must travel in a limousine with a Russian Orthodox priest in order to receive their next clue.

Teams complete the Speed Bump in the following order:

1- James/Abba

After much limo riding, they continue with the rest of the teams in getting the Roadblock clue.

Teams now get the ninth roadblock clue.

Who’s in the Zone?

In this roadblock, roadblockers must use a Russian time zone map written using the Universal Coordinated Time offsets and a current time in Moscow to figure out the correct time in five other Russian cities.  Once the test is completed properly, teams can get their next clue.

(Toyouke: “This Roadblock is stupid. I guess they had to go with the "quick memorization" thing to make it a challenge.”)  When the Twinnies see the Roadblock, they decide to use their Express Pass, since this is the last leg in which they can use it.  (Toyouke: “I know they have to use the Express Pass this leg, so whatever.”)  So they get their next clue while other teams complete the task.

The following teammates take the Roadblock:

1- Jaymes
2- Lexi
3- Ryan
– (Toyouke: “It is so apparent how much I dislike Ryan. I love this. Schadenfreude.”)
4- Brent
5- James/Abba *not shown*

After much test solving and smirking from the Amazing Russian Test Instructor  (Toyouke: “I like this professor. He's fun.”), teams complete the Roadblock in the following order:

1- Jaymes/James
2- Trey/Lexi
3- Natalie/Nadiya
4- Abbie/Ryan
5- Josh/Brent
6- James/Abba

And we get the Detour Clue.

Movers OR Shakers

*Movers: Teams must travel to a nearby hotel and learn a classic Russian soldier dance and perform it correctly.  Once complete, teams would get their next clue.
*Shakers: Teams travel to a nearby hotel and find a cocktail party populated with former Russian leaders.  Teams must identify the leaders, count how many of each are in the room.  Once they report them to Alexander Pushkin correctly, they would get their next clue.

1- Trey/Lexi choose Movers
2- Jaymes/James choose Movers – (Toyouke: “Choosing the dancing Detour is not "being smart about James' ankle".”)
3- Natalie/Nadiya choose Movers – where Natalie’s pants rip.  Multiple times.
4- Abbie/Ryan choose Movers
5- Josh/Brent choose Shakers – Josh: “You guys are lively for a dead crowd!”
6- James/Abba choose Something

Teams complete the detour in the following order:

1- Jaymes/James
2- Trey/Lexi
3- Natalie/Nadiya
4- Abbie/Ryan
5- Josh/Brent
6- James/Abba

Teams now must make their way to Sokolniki Park and find the Veranda Tantsev, the PIT STOP of the eighth leg of this racearoundtheworld.  The last team to arrive MAY be eliminated!

Teams get to the Pit Stop in the following order:

1- Jaymes/James – who win a trip for 2 to Costa Rica.
2- Trey/Lexi
3- Natalie/Nadiya
4- Abbie/Ryan
5- Josh/Brent
6- James/Abba

James and Abba, who still don’t have their passports, are now officially last, and are eliminated.  They are still besties.

1st – Jaymes/James
2nd – Trey/Lexi
3rd – Natalie/Nadiya
4th – Abbie/Ryan
5th – Josh/Brent

Next week: Abbie and Ryan have flight issues again.  And the Chippendales have to make a hard choice at a Double U-Turn.  Until next time!
