TAR 36, Recap Leg 6, 4/17/24

Welcome to Leg 6! Last time, on Maybe Giving These Teams Tools and Small Parts To Work With Wasn’t a Great Idea, 9 teams raced to Santiago, Chile. It is discovered that Danny is good at navigation, so the nurses and NFL started following them around. The firefighters once again ended up in last, only to make a comeback on tasks and finish not last, which is a task accomplished by the cousins, Kishori and Karishma, who were eliminated. Who will be eliminated. . . next? (click for more)

Arrival at the pit stop last episode:

1st – Ricky and Cesar, Team Dating Dudes

2nd – Juan and Shane, Team Top Gun

3rd – Amber and Vinny, Team Dating Nurses

4th – Angie and Danny, Team Family Education

5th – Rod and Leticia, Team NFL Fitness

6th – Yvonne and Melissa, Dating Hikers

7th – Sunny and Bizzy, Team Badass Firefighter

8th – Derek and Shelisa, Team Retired Blue Bloods

Estación Mapocho, Santiago, Chile

Teams are transported by private plane from Chile overnight to the second largest city in Argentina, Córdoba, where they will run the next leg. They depart from the Pit Start in fifteen minute increments.

La Cañada, Córdoba, Argentina

Clue: Welcome to Córdoba, Argentina! This is a Mega Leg! Drive yourselves to Plaza del Bicentenario and search for your next clue.

First Departure 8:15 am

Ricky/Cesar (1st)

Juan/Shane (2nd)

Second Departure 8:30 am

Amber/Vinny (3rd)

Angie/Danny (4th)

Rod/Leticia (5th) – Rod: "Let's just follow Danny." (Toyouke: “I don't want to hear any complaining. You brought this on yourself.”)

Third Departure 8:45 am

Yvonne/Melissa (6th)

Sunny/Bizzy (7th)

Derek/Shelisa (8th)

So teams make their way to get their cars, get in and drive to the plaza, only to arrive in the following order:

1- Ricky/Cesar

2- Juan/Shane

3- Rod/Leticia

4- Amber/Vinny

5- Angie/Danny

6- Yvonne/Melissa

7- Derek/Shelisa

8- Sunny/Bizzy

Teams open their clues and we get the sixth Detour Clue.

DETOUR:

Bicicleta OR Boleadora

*Bicicleta: Teams drive themselves to Plaza Ex. Vélez Sársfield and find the stationary bicycles. Once there, team members work together to shred plastic bottles using the mechanism where one person pedals and the other feeds the machine. Teammates may switch roles as necessary. Once the bin is filled with plastic bottle shreds, the inventor will give them the next clue.

*Boleadora: Teams drive themselves to Sarmiento Park, where teams must wear gaucho outfits and sit on a wooden horse while throwing boleadoras at a moving target. Together, team members had ten chances to each hit the target. Once complete, the gaucho would give them their next clue.

(Toyouke: “These bicycles are BS to satisfy tourists. There is no way you process enough bottles to make that worthwhile.”)

Teams drive to their Detour option and arrive in the following order:

1- Ricky/Cesar choose Boleadora

2- Juan/Shane choose Boleadora

3- Rod/Leticia choose Boleadora – and Bald Snark to Bicicleta when convinced to do so by Danny. (Toyouke: “Oh so we're not complaining, we're actually going to act like this was the plan all along? I am sure Danny is at home right now upset the internet doesn't like him because they all hate alliances.”)

4- Amber/Vinny choose Boleadora – and Bald Snark to Bicicleta when convinced to do so by Danny. (Toyouke: “No if they're going to Bald Snark then you should stay. You could get ahead. You people don't know anything about this race.”)

5- Angie/Danny choose Boleadora – who look at the task and monitor the wind conditions and realize that this would be a complicated task, even if they could do it quickly. So they Bald Snark to Bicicleta, and convince the rest of the alliance to do the same. (Toyouke: “You won't survive the megaleg if your alliance is last. He just has such a smug look on his face, it makes me want to smack him.”)

6- Yvonne/Melissa choose Boleadora

7- Derek/Shelisa choose Boleadora – who manage to get one of the two boleadoras on the moving target, but see another team leave and Shelisa becomes convinced they need to switch, since Derek is nowhere near hitting the target. (Toyouke: “Yeah now is the time to stay. You're halfway done.”) So they Bald Snark to Bicicleta.

8- Sunny/Bizzy choose Bicicleta

Much boleadora throwing and bottle shredding ensues. So, teams complete the detour in the following order:

1- Juan/Shane

2- Ricky/Cesar

3- Rod/Leticia – who explain that in the alliance, whomever finishes first is responsible for getting the directions to the next task while they wait for the other teams to finish. (Toyouke: “See you should just leave? I don't want to leave my navigation to other teams ESPECIALLY this season?”)

4- Angie/Danny – Danny: "I'm competing against Mr. NFL" (Toyouke: “Yeah, that's why THIS ALLIANCE IS SO DUMB.”)

5- Amber/Vinny

6- Yvonne/Melissa

7- Sunny/Bizzy

8- Derek/Shelisa

Teams are now instructed to drive themselves to Circuito Lobo Race to get their next clue. Teams arrive at the racetrack in the following order:

1- Ricky/Cesar

2- Juan/Shane – who get lost on the way. (Toyouke: “Literally no one on this season has a good sense of direction.”)

3- Rod/Leticia

4- Amber/Vinny

5- Angie/Danny

6- Yvonne/Melissa

7- Derek/Shelisa

8- Sunny/Bizzy

When they rip open the clue, teams get the sixth roadblock.

ROADBLOCK:

Who’s got a good sense of direction?

In this roadblock, one team member must put on a car racing suit and ride in a rally car around a closed circuit. Once complete, the roadblocker must recrate the racetrack route in 3 minutes using a nine piece puzzle. If incorrect, roadblockers must ride the route again until they get the puzzle right. Once the puzzle is correct, teams get their next clue.

(Toyouke: “I wonder if it's possible to make a complete loop that's incorrect? Do you actually have to memorize the turns or can you just make a complete loop? I mean, for this season's racers that would be harder than memorizing turns.”)

The following teammates take the Roadblock:

1- Ricky

2- Juan

3- Leticia – who is really struggling. (Toyouke: “This is not the worst task, it's a good task. I just don't have faith in this group. AND there's a time limit?”)

4- Amber

5- Angie – who overheats again. (Toyouke: “If those other two teams stand around and wait for Angie to feel better then they deserve to end up in last.”)

6- Sunny

7- Melissa

8- Derek

After much racing and puzzle solving, teams complete the Roadblock in the following order:

1- Juan/Shane – (Toyouke: “Oh, yeah, I think my observation that the boyfriends are only in first because one speaks fluent Spanish? Just look at this task. Juan made a map in half the time given and on the first try.”)

2- Ricky/Cesar

3- Amber/Vinny – and Vinny gets the directions for the alliance, while Amber goes around helping those teams finish the puzzle. (Toyouke: “It's the right strategy if you finish the Detour last and then someone else has done the work of finding directions for you. So Vinny does have a point in his particular situation. Angie is smarter than her son, I think. Amber being in tears because she won't leave? What is wrong with you. So you can't help your partner on a Roadblock but the Roadblockers can help each other? I feel like this shouldn't be allowed?”)

4- Angie/Danny

5- Rod/Leticia

6- Yvonne/Melissa

7- Sunny/Bizzy

8- Derek/Shelisa

Teams are now instructed to drive themselves to Estadio Francisco Cabasés to get their next clue. Teams arrive in the following order:

1- Juan/Shane

2- Ricky/Cesar

3- Sunny/Bizzy

4- Yvonne/Melissa

5- Rod/Leticia – who got lost on the way to the stadium, thanks to Vinny’s directions.

6- Amber/Vinny – who got lost on the way to the stadium, thanks to Vinny’s directions.

7- Angie/Danny – who got lost on the way to the stadium, thanks to Vinny’s directions. (Toyouke: “See and then the other part is when for some reason Vinny's directions make you slower than the other teams? That's why they're keeping you around, so that when this happens they know that at least you're there to beat.”)

8- Derek/Shelisa

When they rip open the clue, teams get the seventh roadblock.

ROADBLOCK:

Who wants to score?

In this roadblock, one team member must don a bubble suit (Wearable Zorb) and play bubble soccer. They have 90 seconds to score a goal. Once they do, teams receive their next clue.

The following teammates take the Roadblock:

1- Shane – even though Juan REALLY wants to play soccer.

2- Cesar

3- Bizzy

4- Yvonne

5- Rod

6- Amber

7- Angie – which is described by Danny as strategic. (Toyouke: “Your mom already had to stop for medical attention. Having her do any other Roadblock today is not a strategic move.”)

8- Derek

After much bubble soccer, teams complete the Roadblock in the following order:

1- Juan/Shane

2- Ricky/Cesar

3- Sunny/Bizzy

4- Yvonne/Melissa

5- Rod/Leticia – who get the directions for the teams.

6- Amber/Vinny

7- Angie/Danny

8- Derek/Shelisa

Teams are now instructed to drive themselves to Mirador del Coniferal to get their next clue. Teams arrive in the following order:

1- Juan/Shane

2- Ricky/Cesar

3- Sunny/Bizzy

4- Yvonne/Melissa

5- Rod/Leticia

6- Amber/Vinny

7- Angie/Danny

8- Derek/Shelisa – and get a clue to go directly to the Pit Stop. Not good.

Teams open their clues and we get the seventh Detour Clue.

DETOUR:

Who Did It? OR Where’s The Beef?

*Who Did It?: Teams drive themselves to a location to dust for fingerprints, lift the fingerprint off a glass, compare it against the fingerprint files, and name a suspect. If correct, teams get their next clue.

*Where’s The Beef: Teams drive themselves to Frigorifico “Gral Paz” and listen to a butcher list 14 cuts of meat in Spanish. Teams then walk to Patio de los Naranjos, where there are three boards with the various cuts of meat. Teams place the correct cut of meat on the correct part of the cow. Once complete, teams get their next clue. Only three boards are available. It is first come, first served, but if you leave your board at any point, it will get cleared so another team can take a shot.

Teams drive to their Detour option and arrive in the following order:

1- Juan/Shane choose What’s Your Beef?

2- Ricky/Cesar choose What’s Your Beef? – (Toyouke: “OK so maybe the boyfriends can do this Detour because one of them is a chef. But fingerprinting is not hard?”)

3- Yvonne/Melissa choose What’s Your Beef?

4- Sunny/Bizzy choose What’s Your Beef?

5- Rod/Leticia choose What’s Your Beef?

6- Amber/Vinny choose What’s Your Beef?

7- Angie/Danny choose What’s Your Beef?

It’s worth noting that even though the girlfriends and firefighters arrived first, they were taking up two of the three boards when the alliance arrived. They decide to go listen to the meat again, and Danny correctly realizes that all three boards are open and they can claim them and stay until all three teams have the correct answers. So they do, which annoys the two female teams. (Toyouke: “So we're going from "I have to help people I feel bad" to "This is mean but *shrug*" This is the time we need a U-Turn and one with a vote. It's made for this exact situation.”)

Much meat identifying ensues, because no one wanted to deal with fingerprints. (Toyouke: “FINGERPRINTING IS NOT HARD. A ten year old can pull a fingerprint.”) So, teams complete the detour in the following order:

1- Juan/Shane

2- Ricky/Cesar

3- Rod/Leticia

4- Angie/Danny

5- Amber/Vinny

6- Yvonne/Melissa

7- Sunny/Bizzy

Teams are now instructed to drive themselves to Plaza de San Martín, the PIT STOP of the sixth leg of this racearoundtheworld. The last team to arrive WILL be eliminated!

1- Juan/Shane – who win $5000 each.

2- Ricky/Cesar

3- Rod/Leticia

4- Amber/Vinny

5- Angie/Danny

6- Yvonne/Melissa – and Danny tells them they did a good job. (Toyouke: “The BALLS to tell them "well done" I would not high-five them.”)

7- Sunny/Bizzy

8- Derek/Shelisa

And Derek and Shelisa are eliminated. They struggled but didn’t get frustrated. Derek was very proud of how strong his wife is.

ORDER NOW:

1st – Juan/Shane

2nd – Ricky/Cesar

3rd – Rod/Leticia

4th – Amber/Vinny

5th – Angie/Danny

6th – Yvonne/Melissa

7th – Sunny/Bizzy

Next week: Uruguay, for the first time since TAR5! There is singing, mostly poorly. And all bets are off! (Toyouke: “It is too late for Danny to decide he’s running his own race. That sounds like your dumbass alliance is in last and now you're realizing you're screwed so you desperately need the other teams to not get help from you.”) Until next time!
