10:14 AM Greg/John (1st)

Clue: Make your way 600 miles southeast to Ljubljana, Slovenia! Make your way to Teddy Travel to pick up airline tickets to Vienna and train tickets from there to Ljubljana. If you would like to try and find better travel arrangements, you may.

2- Robbin/Chelsea

Teams now have tickets on the train from Vienna to Salzburg to Ljubljana. But the lead teams find a better route through Graz, getting them in significantly sooner. As they are traveling, they watch the map show that they may be stuck in Graz, as the train they are on is slowing down and will arrive at the station late. So they backtrack to Vienna and take the previously arranged tickets. (Toyouke: “I have a feeling you're going to get there before 8am and the place will be closed until 8am.”) With all teams on the train to Salzberg and then on to Ljubljana, the Amazing Red Train Tracks take us to Ljubljana and teams arrive in the following order:

1- Joel/Garrett

2- Todd/Ashlie

3- Robbin/Chelsea

4- Steve/Anna Leigh

5- Rob/Corey

6- Morgan/Lena

7- Greg/John

Teams are now instructed to make their way on foot to Congress Square and find Park Zvegala and their marked vehicles to drive themselves to Lesce Air Field to get their next clue. Teams arrive at Park Zvegala in the following order:

1- Steve/Anna Leigh

2- Joel/Garrett

3- Greg/John

4- Todd/Ashlie

5- Rob/Corey

6- Robbin/Chelsea

7- Morgan/Lena

Teams figure out how to drive stick shift, and then make their way to Lesce Air Field to find their clues in the following order:

1- Joel/Garrett

2- Rob/Corey

3- Todd/Ashlie

4- Greg/John

5- Robbin/Chelsea

6- Morgan/Lena – who have a rough time relearning how to drive stick shift.

7- Steve/Anna Leigh – who have impossible navigation skills.

When they rip open the clue, teams get the eighth roadblock.

ROADBLOCK:

Who wants a bird’s eye view?

In this roadblock, one team member must board a glider and be taken up into the air at 70 mph to glide over Lake Bled and find four numbers on boats in the lake. Once they land, teams must answer a trivia question (What year did Slovenia gain its independence?) using the numbers (1991) in order to open the pilot’s clipboard and get their next clue. If you are incorrect, you must return to the end of the line and go back in the air to try again.

(Toyouke: “Those numbers are pretty hard to read, and you have to go all the way back up again? That sucks.”)

The following teammates take the Roadblock:

1- Garrett – whose first attempt is 1199.

2- Rob

3- Ashlie – who was forced to due to height and weight restrictions.

4- John

5- Robbin

6- Lena – whose first attempt is 1976?

7- Steve – because Anna Leigh was so distraught about being in last place, she couldn’t be bothered.

After much number searching and gliding, teams complete the Roadblock in the following order:

1- Rob/Corey

2- Todd/Ashlie

3- Greg/John

4- Robbin/Chelsea

5- Joel/Garrett

6- Morgan/Lena

7- Steve/Anna Leigh

Teams are now instructed to drive themselves to the town of Planica and find the Planica Nordic Center. Teams arrive in the following order:

1- Todd/Ashlie

2- Rob/Corey

3- Greg/John

4- Robbin/Chelsea – who, as usual, followed Greg and John.

5- Joel/Garrett

6- Morgan/Lena

7- Steve/Anna Leigh

When they rip open the clue, teams get information about how to claim the second Express Pass

EXPRESS PASS

To earn the Express Pass, teams must find the marked staircase and climb 1100 steps to the top of the ski jump hill. Once both team members have made it to the top, the team would be awarded with the Express Pass, and be allowed to take the world’s steepest zip line to the bottom to continue the race.

The following teams go for the Express Pass:

1- Todd/Ashlie – who promptly misses the marked stairway. When they realize what they have done, Rob and Corey have arrived and started. They get about a quarter of the way, and then turn around and give up.

2- Rob/Corey – who sees Todd and Ashlie being lost, so they go for it. Corey: “This climb is snow joke.” They notice Todd and Ashlie on their tails at various times but work their way to the top and claim the Express Pass and get to do the zip line as a reward.

3- Greg/John – who run into Todd and Ashlie as they give up their run but are encouraged to do it. They also get about a quarter of the way and realize they can’t catch Rob and Corey, but they couldn’t see the second half, and if they had, they may have continued.

4- Steve/Anna Leigh – who completes the task and decide to go for it, completely missing the sign that says TAKEN. (Toyouke: “I assumed when the first clue they read said "it's time to ski" that they didn't include the Express Pass clue at all. It is clearly marked but also not very big. But "Oh there's the marker" and don't see the white tape?“) They get to the top, find out it is taken, and get to take the zip line to the bottom anyway. (Toyouke: “There was some discussion that the zipline was presented as a "reward" for getting the Express Pass and therefore they should have had to walk back down the stairs. Maybe the guy felt bad.”)

So, Rob and Corey ultimately get the Express Pass, and must use it by the end of Leg 10.

Once the Express Pass consideration is over, it’s snow time! Teams are now instructed to enter the Planica parking deck, don cross country skis and ski to the top of the parking deck to get their next clue. Teams start the task in the following order:

1- Robbin/Chelsea

2- Todd/Ashlie

3- Greg/John

4- Rob/Corey

5- Joel/Garrett

6- Morgan/Lena

7- Steve/Anna Leigh

Teams complete the task in the following order:

1- Greg/John

2- Robbin/Chelsea

3- Todd/Ashlie

4- Rob/Corey

5- Joel/Garrett

6- Morgan/Lena

7- Steve/Anna Leigh

Teams open their clues and we get the eighth Detour Clue.

DETOUR:

Field Work OR House Work

*Field Work: Teams drive themselves to Podkoren and find the Zelenci Nature Reserve. Once there, teams choose a hay rack and fill it with the entire pile of hay in front of it. Once complete, the farmer will approve the task and give the teams their next clue.

*House Work: Teams drive themselves to Ratece and find Bee-Toni. Once there, teams choose a beehive to construct. Once complete, the beekeeper will approve the task and give the teams their next clue.

(Toyouke: “Ooo, a Reckless/Chicken option! We haven't seen one of those in a while. Or do you have to do anything with bees actually?”)

1- Greg/John choose Field Work – Greg: “For the record, we had picked the other Detour, so sometimes teams can make their own independent decisions.”

2- Robbin/Chelsea choose Field Work

3- Todd/Ashlie choose Field Work

4- Rob/Corey choose Field Work

5- Joel/Garrett choose House Work

6- Morgan/Lena choose Field Work

7- Steve/Anna Leigh choose House Work

Much hay placing and apiary building ensues. So, teams complete the detour in the following order:

1- Todd/Ashlie

2- Rob/Corey

3- Greg/John

4- Morgan/Lena

5- Robbin/Chelsea

6- Joel/Garrett

7- Steve/Anna Leigh

Teams are now instructed to drive themselves back to Ljubljana, park in the Hisa Parking Garage and find the Neboticnik Skyscraper, once the tallest building in Yugoslavia. They must ascend the spiral staircase 230 feet up to get their next clue. Teams park at Hisa in the following order:

1- Todd/Ashlie

2- Greg/John

3- Rob/Corey

4- Joel/Garrett – who left their notebook at the Detour and went back to get it, and still beat other teams. (Toyouke: “AGAIN?!? They left something behind before, right?”)

5- Robbin/Chelsea

6- Steve/Anna Leigh – who find a different garage and ask for directions.

7- Morgan/Lena – who park in a different garage, and have to repark in the actual garage.

Teams make their way to the top and get their clues in the following order:

1- Todd/Ashlie

2- Greg/John – who consider the elevator on exit, but decide against it.

3- Rob/Corey

4- Joel/Garrett

5- Robbin/Chelsea

6- Steve/Anna Leigh – who take the elevator on exit, as they watch Morgan and Lena approach the clue. (Toyouke: “OK I'm going to need a ruling on that.”)

7- Morgan/Lena

Teams are now instructed to travel on foot to Dragon Bridge, the PIT STOP of the seventh leg of this racearoundtheworld. The last team to arrive WILL be eliminated!

1- Greg/John – who win a trip for 2 to Namibia.

2- Todd/Ashlie

3- Rob/Corey

4- Joel/Garrett

5- Robbin/Chelsea

6- Steve/Anna Leigh – (Toyouke: “I don't like it. No penalty? We had to listen to all that whining for nothing?”)

7- Morgan/Lena

Morgan and Lena arrive as Phil is telling Steve and Anna Leigh that they are safe, and that it was a foot race. He then lets the sister know that they are the last team to arrive and they are eliminated. They wanted to spend time together and work through their differences, and they feel like they have done that.

ORDER NOW:

1st – Greg/John

2nd – Todd/Ashlie

3rd – Rob/Corey

4th – Joel/Garrett

5th – Robbin/Chelsea

6th – Steve/Anna Leigh

Next week: More Slovenia! We go spelunking! Todd and Ashlie take the scenic route. And Rob ends up in the water. Until next time!
