TAR 32, Recap Leg 9, 12/2/20

Welcome to Leg 9! Last time, on Yielding the Blondes Is Way More Fun, 6 teams raced to Hyderabad, India for a Megaleg. But all we seem to be able to talk about is the Mine Five Alliance, which are the only teams that remain. (Toyouke: “Do you think you haven't talked about this stupid alliance enough for the past month that we need to pretend that's all that happened last week?”) Riley and Maddison finished first, Kaylynn and Haley were finally eliminated. Blah, blah, blah. Who will be eliminated. . . next? (click for more)

Arrival at the pit stop last episode:

1st – Riley and Maddison, The Hawaiian Volleyball Brothers

2nd – Will and James, Team Gay Reality Stars

3rd – DeAngelo and Gary, Team Another Mother Brothers

4th – Hung and Chee, The Honeymooning Asians

5th – Eswar and Aparna, The Engineer Siblings

Taj Falaknuma Palace, Hyderabad, India

3:25 PM Riley/Maddison (1st) – who thinks there is a Double U-Turn on this leg, and have plans to U-Turn DeAngelo and Gary. (Toyouke: “I have seen many statements listing how Gary and DeAngelo have been vital to the functioning of the Mine Five Alliance. I'm noticing that up into now there was a lot of talk about how they're mooching off everyone else, and suddenly now we're only using sound bites about how they're a threat.”)

Clue: Fly 3000 miles to Siem Reap, Cambodia! Once there, make your way to Psah Chas and find the marked tuk-tuks to meet up with your Travelocity Roaming Gnome and get your next clue!

3:42 PM Will/James (2nd)

3:58 PM DeAngelo/Gary (3rd)

4:26 PM Hung/Chee (4th)

4:52 PM Eswar/Aparna (5th)

So teams make their way to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport so that they can fly to Siem Reap. Since everyone is on the same flight, the Amazing Orange Line takes us directly to Siem Reap where teams arrive at Siem Reap International Airport in the following order:

1- Eswar/Aparna

2- DeAngelo/Gary

3- Riley/Maddison

4- Will/James

5- Hung/Chee

Teams now take taxis to Psah Chas and find the tuk-tuks in the following order:

1- Will/James – (Toyouke: “James...has he gotten more flamey as the season has progressed? Also who yells that they're in Cambodia as they drive down the road? He does a lot of things that make me cringe because it feels like he thinks foreigners are cute and everywhere is exotic and it's kind of racist.”)

2- Riley/Maddison

3- Hung/Chee

4- DeAngelo/Gary

5- Eswar/Aparna

Teams are now instructed find a tuk-tuk driver and help them assemble the tuk-tuk. Teams assemble their tuk-tuks in the following order:

1- Will/James

2- Riley/Maddison

3- Hung/Chee

4- DeAngelo/Gary

5- Eswar/Aparna

Teams are now instructed to have their tuk-tuks take them to Chong Khneas Pier on Tonlé Sap Lake to get their next clue. Teams arrive at the pier in the following order:

1- Will/James

2- Riley/Maddison

3- Hung/Chee

4- DeAngelo/Gary

5- Eswar/Aparna

Teams are now instructed to choose a marked boat and take it to Chong Khneas Floating Village and find the Buddhist Temple and deliver the basket of offerings that they received with their Travelocity Roaming Gnome. Teams arrive at the Buddhist Temple in the following order:

1- Hung/Chee

2- Will/James

3- Riley/Maddison – who had boat trouble.

4- DeAngelo/Gary

5- Eswar/Aparna

Teams open their envelopes and we get the seventh Detour Clue.

DETOUR:

Fish OR Farm

*Fish: Teams travel to a fishing boat and pull a 3,280-foot fishing net through a fish extraction device. Once the net has been fully retrieved, teams reach into the pool below and collect at least 15 kilograms of fish after attaching the needle from the Travelocity Roaming Gnome's satchel to the scale. Once complete, teams get their next clue.

*Farm: Teams travel to a farming boat and mix a combination of compost and soil. Once mixed, teams plant a garden of local produce in order to match the provided example. To finish, they plant seeds in the Travelocity Roaming Gnome's satchel in order for the proctor to give them their next clue.

(Toyouke: “I'm not sure which one of these is better, but it certainly is a good leg for a U-Turn. Both Detours are going to take a while and leave you kind of tired.”)

1- Hung/Chee choose Farm – after their boat took them to the wrong Detour choice. (Toyouke: “That's the right choice. Instead of leaving, just do this one now that you're here.”)

2- Will/James choose Farm

3- Riley/Maddison choose Fish

4- DeAngelo/Gary choose Fish

5- Eswar/Aparna choose Fish

(Toyouke: “OK maybe Fish was easier.”) Much net pulling and planting ensues. So, teams complete the detour in the following order:

1- Riley/Maddison

2- DeAngelo/Gary

3- Eswar/Aparna

4- Hung/Chee

5- Will/James

Teams are now instructed to travel by boat to a nearby platform in the Chong Khneas Floating Village to get their next clue.

CAUTION: DOUBLE U-TURN AHEAD!

When they arrive, teams find the U-Turn.

This is a Double U-Turn. Teams may choose to U-turn any team they wish (well, the team has to be behind them), but they may only use the U-Turn once during the race. If a team is U-turned, they must go back to the Detour choices and complete the Detour that they did not complete. This U-Turn is doubled, meaning two teams may U-Turn two other teams. It is revealed that this is the second and final U-Turn on this race.

1- DeAngelo/Gary choose to U-Turn Eswar/Aparna – (Toyouke: “HA. It's a purely logical move: U-Turn the one team you know is behind you by at least some margin.”)

2- Riley/Maddison choose to U-Turn Riley/Maddison – (Toyouke: “I hate burning the U-Turn like this, and if those boys had any brains they'd risk U-Turning Hung and Chee. ”)

3- Eswar/Aparna are U-Turned and cannot U-Turn – (Toyouke: “I know they're salty and I would also be salty but honestly? Without knowing where Hung/Chee and the boyfriends are? It's not a bad decision. If they had U-Turned Riley/Maddison then the beards would have still U-Turned Eswar/Aparna so you get a U-Turn either way.”)

4- Hung/Chee cannot U-Turn

5- Will/James cannot U-Turn

So the Sibling Engineers have been U-Turned and now must complete the other U-Turn option, which is Farm. Because the Football Boys were first to the U-Turn, they were not U-Turned.

Teams then leave the U-Turn in the following order:

1- DeAngelo/Gary

2- Riley/Maddison

3- Hung/Chee

4- Will/James

5- Eswar/Aparna

Teams are now instructed to take their boat back to Chong Khneas Pier and rejoin their tuk-tuk. They then instruct their tuk-tuk to take them to Khmer Floor Handicraft to get their next clue. Teams arrive at Chong Khneas Pier in the following order:

1- DeAngelo/Gary

2- Riley/Maddison

3- Hung/Chee

4- Will/James

5- Eswar/Aparna

Teams now take their tuk-tuks to Khmer Floor Handicraft and arrive in the following order:

1- Riley/Maddison

2- DeAngelo/Gary

3- Hung/Chee

4- Will/James

5- Eswar/Aparna

When they rip open the clue, teams get the ninth roadblock.

ROADBLOCK:

Who thinks they can fit the mold?

In this roadblock, one team member must make an encaustic cement tile using traditional methods and with the aide of a demonstration. Once the tile is created correctly, teams then retrieve a key from the Travelocity Roaming Gnome and open a chest with pieces to a slider puzzle which the assemble and solve in order to get their next clue.

The following teammates take the Roadblock:

1- Riley

2- DeAngelo who won’t watch the whole demonstration, so he fails repeatedly. (Toyouke: “Everyone's in such a hurry they're not watching the demo all the way through.”)

3- Chee

4- Will

5- Eswar – while Aparna throws barbs at DeAngelo. (Toyouke: “While this is mostly entertaining, I feel there should probably be a rule about Aparna messing with DeAngelo.”)

After much tile making and puzzle solving, teams complete the Roadblock in the following order:

1- Riley/Maddison

2- Will/James

3- Hung/Chee

4- DeAngelo/Gary

5- Eswar/Aparna

Teams are now instructed to make their way by tuk-tuk to Angkor Thom, the PIT STOP of the ninth leg of this racearoundtheworld. The last team to arrive WILL be eliminated!

1- Riley/Maddison – who win a trip for two from Travelocity to Norway.

2- Will/James

3- Hung/Chee

4- DeAngelo/Gary

5- Eswar/Aparna

And Eswar and Aparna are the last team to arrive and thus eliminated from the Race. They are happy to have spent time together as siblings.

ORDER NOW:

1st – Riley/Maddison

2nd – Will/James

3rd – Hung/Chee

4th – DeAngelo/Gary

Next week: Philippines! An endurance task with running! A memory task with flags! And the final three is named! Until next time!
