TAR 32, Recap Leg 10, 12/9/20

Welcome to Leg 10! Last time, on Sometimes It Helps to Watch the Demonstration, 5 teams raced to Siem Reap, Cambodia. The Mine Five Alliance was left, but the Secret Alliance of the Beard Bros, the Boyfriends and the Married Parents wanted to get to the U-Turn first to get rod of the Footballers. The Footballers got there first, so the Siblings were the target instead, and got eliminated. Who will be eliminated. . . next? (click for more)

Arrival at the pit stop last episode:

1st – Riley and Maddison, The Hawaiian Volleyball Brothers

2nd – Will and James, Team Gay Reality Stars

3rd – Hung and Chee, The Honeymooning Asians

4th – DeAngelo and Gary, Team Another Mother Brothers

East Gate, Angkor Thom, Siem Reap, Cambodia

2:00 PM Riley/Maddison (1st) – who have two wins in a row, and are busy looking at Travelocity for the information on their trip to Norway.

Clue: Fly to Manila, Philippines, the texting capital of the world! Once there, take the jeepney to Rizal Park and find Phil at Lapu Lapu Circle.

2:52 PM Will/James (2nd) – Will: “Getting to the end of the Race would be Amazing!”

3:38 PM Hung/Chee (3rd) – Hung: “We want to be a role model for our daughters!”

3:55 PM DeAngelo/Gary (4th) – Gary: “Winning is in our nature.” (Toyouke: “I still don't know why everyone hates Gary and DeAngelo so much, unless the show has over-emphasized it in the edit. “)

So teams make their way to Siem Reap International Airport and arrive in the following order:

1- Riley/Maddison

2- Will/James

3- Hung/Chee

4- DeAngelo/Gary

Since everyone is on the same flight, the Amazing Orange Line takes us directly to Manila where teams arrive at Ninoy Aquino International Airport in the following order:

1- Riley/Maddison

2- Will/James

3- DeAngelo/Gary

4- Hung/Chee

Teams take their jeepney to Rizal Park and find Phil in the following order:

1- Riley/Maddison

2- Will/James

3- DeAngelo/Gary

4- Hung/Chee

Phil is waiting for the teams to inform them that this is the first ever City Sprint. This means no Roadblocks, no Detours, only tasks that all teams must complete. Teams should complete them as quickly as possible and then return to the Pit Stop: Lapu Lapu Circle. They are then informed their next clues are in the marked jeepneys. Phil releases the teams and they find the marked jeepneys in the following order:

1- Will/James

2- Riley/Maddison

3- Hung/Chee

4- DeAngelo/Gary

Teams are now instructed to solve a riddle to find the next clue: Red means stop, green means go, when it comes to traffic, I make it flow. Hold out your hand and grab your clue, then you’ll find out what’s waiting for you. The jeepney drivers know to take them to the intersection where Romero Hinojas is directing traffic. (Toyouke: “This guy is cool but I am not a fan of the rhyming Survivor riddle clue.”) Teams will get their next clue from him while reaching out of their moving vehicle. Teams make their way to the intersection and get their clue in the following order:

1- Riley/Maddison

2- DeAngelo/Gary

3- Will/James

4- Hung/Chee

(Toyouke: “Getting this clue depends so heavily on your driver already knowing what is going on. I don't like that you supposedly have to "figure out" the clue, but even then if your driver just keeps driving it doesn't do you any good.”) Teams are now instructed to have their drivers take them to the Mall of Asia. Teams arrive at the clue box in the following order:

1- Riley/Maddison

2- DeAngelo/Gary

3- Will/James

4- Hung/Chee

Teams are instructed to put on high heels and run a 500 meter marked course, similar to the Tour de Takong in Marikina. (Toyouke: “You babies. Those heels aren't that high and they're so thick! Not even stilettos! “) Once complete, teams get their next clue. Teams finish the race in the following order:

1- Riley/Maddison

2- DeAngelo/Gary

3- Will/James

4- Hung/Chee

(Toyouke: “There's a little too much "let's laugh at the straight men cross-dressing" in this task. Compare laughing at Gary and DeAngelo to Chee's nonchalant "I mean I've WORN heels before" and Hung's non-reaction.”) Teams are now instructed to make their way to Binondo and find the Arch of Goodwill. Once there, team search for one of four lion dancers that have a clue in their mouths. Teams arrive at the Arch of Goodwill in the following order:

1- DeAngelo/Gary

2- Will/James

3- Riley/Maddison – who get stuck in traffic.

4- Hung/Chee – who can’t seem to find lion because they were looking for statues.

Teams run around Binondo and eventually find the clue in the lion’s mouth in the following order:

1- DeAngelo/Gary

2- Will/James

3- Riley/Maddison

4- Hung/Chee

Teams are now instructed to make their way to the Central Post Office on foot. Teams arrive in the following order:

1- DeAngelo/Gary

2- Will/James

3- Riley/Maddison

4- Hung/Chee

Teams are instructed to make their way to Liwasang Bonifacio and pick a horse attached to a kalesa. Once picked, teams take a bucket, visit three marked vendors to pick up ingredients to feed their horse, mix the ingredients properly and feed the horse to get their next clue. (Toyouke: “"Think like a horse" I am so THRILLED that Gary and DeAngelo are in the lead. If Hung and Chee can't come back, I want them to win just to spite the other two teams.”) Teams feed their horses and get their clues in the following order:

1- Will/James

2- Riley/Maddison

3- DeAngelo/Gary – who can’t find all the marked stalls.

4- Hung/Chee

Teams are now instructed to make their way on foot to Mehan Garden to get their next clue. Teams arrive in the following order:

1- Will/James

2- Riley/Maddison

3- DeAngelo/Gary

4- Hung/Chee

Teams arrive and have to listen to a band play four songs that they heard over the course of the race: Leg 5 (France), Leg 2 (Colombia), Leg 4 (Paraguay) and Leg 1 (Trinidad and Tobago). Once they know the countries, they go to the marked truck filled with instrument boxes with country flags on them. They must find the four boxes with the four flags for those countries and put them in the order that they visited them, which is a key point. Once the proctor approves the correct order (Trinidad and Tobago, Colombia, Paraguay, France), teams get their next clue. (Toyouke: “This is 1000% a final leg challenge. A very hard final leg memory challenge. So why is it here? “)

So, teams start to organize boxes, but the only songs the teams can place are Colombia and Trinidad and Tobago. So they start guessing. Eventually, the Secret Alliance breaks down and decides to work together and try every viable combination (which they call permutation, which is a key fallacy here). (Toyouke: “Are they still putting them in the order played instead of the order they encountered them on the race? That is hilarious.”) They finish without getting the correct answer, and THEN they re-read the clue. (Toyouke: “You're all idiots and you're idiots for telling Riley and Maddison. AND YOU'RE FOR SURE IDIOTS FOR LETTING THEM GO FIRST WHEN THEY DIDN'T FIGURE OUT THE ORDER THEMSELVES.”) FINALLY teams start getting their clue in the following order:

1- Riley/Maddison

2- Will/James – James: “We knew all the flags" (Toyouke: “HA you smug bastard I just watched you fail that. Gary and DeAngelo were the closest.”)

3- Hung/Chee

4- DeAngelo/Gary – who are defeated because they feel they can’t do it without help, and they know they're last, so they take a two hour penalty. (Toyouke: “I mean it's not like I was really rooting for them a ton. But honestly I can't blame them for being pissed and taking a penalty.”)

Teams are now instructed to make their way on foot to Rizal Park and find Lapu Lapu Circle, the PIT STOP of the tenthleg of this racearoundtheworld. The last team to arrive WILL be eliminated!

1- Riley/Maddison

2- Will/James

3- Hung/Chee

4- DeAngelo/Gary

And DeAngelo and Gary are eliminated. DeAngelo thought the race sucked and he could have paid for his own trip around the world. However, he did say he had a great partner and that he enjoyed being able to spend time with Gary.

ORDER NOW:

1st – Riley/Maddison

2nd – Will/James

3rd – Hung/Chee

Next week: Final Leg in New Orleans! Bungee Jumping! Mardi Gras! King Cake! And the Finish Line! Until next time!
