Welcome to Leg 1 of The Amazing Race 32! It’s been a long time since we’ve been together; in fact, this season taped in 2018, so Phil has to come on and remind us that this iteration of the Race happened pre-COVID. Anyway, the Amazing Camera moves around, and eventually land at the Hollywood Bowl in LA. The teams enter and line up in their rainbow of colorful shirts on the stage, the Starting Line for The Amazing Race 32. Phil then grills the 11 teams and makes them make snap judgements of each other. (Toyouke: “Look at Phil, encouraging everyone to stereotype their opponents.”) (click for more)
So the eleven teams for The Amazing Race 32 are:
DeAngelo and Gary, Team Another Mother Brothers, Retired NFL players from the Carolina Panthers where they played together for five years. They say they were bred for this show. Also, they cosplay together, which is just cute.
Kaylynn and Haley, Team Blonde Real Estate, are real estate agents from South Carolina. They moved out of their house when they were in their teens, and have really relied on each other for support over the years. As a result, they claim to have crazy street smarts.
Leo and Alana, Team Operation Nerdgasm, a dating couple that met on Tinder from Massachusetts. At the time of filming, they had been together ten months. They both have masters degrees and wear glasses, so they are hoping everyone thinks they are nerds. Which they are.
Will and James, Team Gay Reality Stars. Dating gay couple. James has applied nine times with various people over the years (including Family Edition) and is excited that he gets to run the race with Will. James: “"I can't imagine doing this race with anyone but him." (Toyouke: “OK but you DID imagine it EIGHT other times.”)
Nathan and Cody, Team Catfish Noodlin’, are best friends of six years from Tennessee. And they really enjoy catfish noodling. You know, catching them with their bare hands. Nathan: “This is the opportunity of one hundred thousand lifetimes!”
Jerry and Frank, Team Family Bonding, are a father and son from Louisville, Kentucky. Dad is a local legend, and the son feels that sometimes. A lot.
Michelle and Victoria, The Cajun Asians, are sisters from Louisiana. Apparently Victoria is Mom’s favorite.
Hung and Chee, The Honeymooning Asians, are married parents from Houston, Texas. Hung is five foot tall and 100 pounds, so she talks about pushing her limits.
Riley and Maddison, The Hawaiian Volleyball Brothers, are brothers and volleyball players from Honolulu, Hawaii. They’ve been growing their beards out for four years. We can tell.
Eswar and Aparna, The Engineer Siblings, are siblings from California who have watched TAR from the beginning and got super excited when TAR visited their hometown of Chennai in TAR10. They are particularly excited to be working together.
Kellie and LaVonne, Team Olympic Hurdlers, are Olympic athletes and friends from Virginia. They don’t see each other as often as they like, and Kellie is the one who actually won bronze. LaVonne: “I did her hair.”
Teams are instructed to run to their bags just outside of the theatre to get their first clue and take a taxi to LAX to catch their first flight. Oh, and the first team to finish will win ONE MILLION DOLLARS (US$1000000)! Then oh so sexy Phil does his standard patter: “Ready? The world is waiting for you. Good luck, travel safe. Cue Phil's eyebrow pop. (Kmanpat: “I’ve missed the eyebrow pop.“) GO!” Who will be eliminated . . . tonight? (Toyouke: “I did miss this show.”)
The Hollywood Bowl, Los Angeles, California, USA
Teams run to their bags and get their first clue.
Clue: Fly to Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago! Once on the island of Trinidad, take a taxi to the 24 Hour Fruit Stand in St. Augustine to get your next clue.
So, teams make their ways to LAX to catch their flight. And then we get the credits, commercial and boom, we’re in Trinidad. (Toyouke: “Not ONE SINGLE MOMENT of airport drama. BORING.”)
So, teams arrive at Piarco International Airport in the following order:
1- Michelle/Victoria
2- Riley/Maddison
3- Jerry/Frank

Teams are now instructed to each roll an oil drum used to make steel drums a quarter mile to the Exodus Panyard, where a Carnival was occurring. Once there, teams had to find the Midnight Robber in order to get their next clue and their plane tickets to the island of Tobago. Teams find the Midnight Robber in the following order:

9- Eswar/Aparna
10- Kaylynn/Haley
11- Kellie/LaVonne
Teams are now instructed to travel by boat to the Nylon Pool. Once there, teams search through 125 fish to find the one the exactly matches the one on their boat and enter the four digit code to unlock the fish, take it to the head fisherman to get their next clue. (Toyouke: “30 minutes is not a big enough cushion for a Swedish Roulette task. I mean, if you have to stop at every fish and pull it up, you might as well try them all. It's not like you can just glance as you walk by? So trying every lock doesn't waste as much time as it might otherwise.”) Teams unlock their fish in the following order:
1- Michelle/Victoria
2- Riley/Maddison
3- Jerry/Frank
4- Will/James
5- Hung/Chee
6- Nathan/Cody
7- DeAngelo/Gary

1- Michelle/Victoria
2- Riley/Maddison
3- Will/James
4- Jerry/Frank
5- Hung/Chee
6- DeAngelo/Gary
7- Nathan/Cody
8- Eswar/Aparna
9- Leo/Alana
10- Kaylynn/Haley
11- Kellie/LaVonne
Once they arrive, teams get the first roadblock clue.
ROADBLOCK:
Who thinks they can steel the show?
In this roadblock, one team member must play a section of ”Day-O” on the steel pan with the Redemption Sound Setters. If they are incorrect, they must go to the end of the line before they try again. Once the roadbloacker has played the section correctly, the bandleader gives them their next clue.
(Toyouke: “So you get sheet music and the drum is labeled with numbers? Pff.”)
The following teammates take the Roadblock:
1- Michelle
2- Maddison
3- Will
4- Frank
5- Chee
6- Gary – who is convinced DeAngelo should have done this.
7- Cody
8- Eswar
9- Leo
10- Kaylynn
11- Kellie
(Toyouke: “So there's different tempos but this is a common song and everyone should know the tempos?“) After much steel pan playing, teams complete the roadblock in the following order:
1- Hung/Chee
2- Michelle/Victoria
3- Riley/Maddison

Teams are now instructed to travel by boat to the PIT STOP, Buccoo Integrated Facility. This is the first pit stop in a racearoundtheworld. Teams must choose a goat and run across a finish line to arrive at the Pit Stop. (Toyouke: “I don't know if I like tying the Pit Stop to racing goats. It feels too much like a last minute head-to-head challenge or whatever they called those.”) The last team to arrive WILL be eliminated!
1- Hung/Chee – who win . . . the chance to keep racing! And they are off to Bogotá, Colombia!
2- Michelle/Victoria
3- Riley/Maddison
4- Will/James
5- Jerry/Frank
6- Leo/Alana
7- Eswar/Apurna
8- Kaylynn/Haley
9- Kellie/LaVonne
10- DeAngelo/Gary – whose boat somehow only had one engine? (Toyouke: “Why does their boat only have one engine?”)
11- Nathan/Cody
And Nathan and Cody are eliminated. They were so happy to simply be included on the race!
ORDER NOW:
1st – Hung/Chee
2nd – Michelle/Victoria
3rd – Riley/Maddison
4th – Will/James
5th – Jerry/Frank
6th – Leo/Alana
7th – Eswar/Aparna
