Previously
on “90 Day Fiance”: Colt and Larissa fought over the wedding.
Larissa wants a fancy dinner at a fancy restaurant, like, say, this
Brazilian steakhouse. Colt does not want to spend as much money. He
made a stupid joke, then when Larissa got mad he tried to fix it by
taking her to look at a venue, but then while there he flirted with
the hostess and pissed off Larissa again. Steven continued to be an
ass, but in interview he claimed to get it. But when actually
speaking to Olga he acted like they both were causing the problem.
Ashley decided she didn't trust Jay, even though she basically
admitted to everyone that she didn't care if he was cheating on her
in Jamaica (she also changed the story to “Natalie lied about Jay
in Jamaica”). Now that he's here, apparently, he's not allowed to
talk to anyone that's not his family and has to tell her where he's
going. They had a really annoying fight about it, where Jay was
offended that Ashley was suspicious but also wouldn't say anything to
clear himself. I have zero patience for someone who kicked her best
friend out of her life for saying “Jay cheated on you” but then
can turn around and say “I don't trust him and he better not be
cheating”. Eric and Leida finally went back to their lives, after
taking Leida's family back to the airport. Reina was so unhappy she
refused to say goodbye. Leida is apparently personally offended by
the messy apartment, and she decided Tasha did it on purpose. As they
met for the first time, Leida basically ordered Tasha to move out
that day, while Eric tried to tell her he wasn't putting his daughter
on the street, and also suggesting things like Tasha staying in a
motel. Tasha pointed out that she's on the lease, and Leida isn't, so
whatever. Kalani refused to deal with her problems like an adult and
had her brother Nick take Asuelu out with the baby so that Nick could
spy and see if Asuelu was “safe” with Oliver. Nick decided that
putting the baby on his shoulders, while holding onto him, was so
unsafe that Kalani shouldn't marry him. Asuelu was not happy to learn
about the spying, because Kalani just flat out told him like it was
no big deal. He asked if he always does things wrong then why is he
here? Jonathan and Fernanda went to Chicago, where Jonathan's sister
was pleasant in person but not very supportive in confessional.
Jonathan's mom was passive aggressive and kept bringing up Fernanda's
age and pretending she didn't mean to be harsh. (click for more)

days for Larissa and Colt. I notice that they are still driving his
stupid car. Also Colt says that he thought proposing to Larissa would
stop their fighting, because he is dumb. They drive somewhere and she
complains about the heat (again), so Colt gets sarcastic and says
“Wow, it's like we live in a desert.” She gives him an evil look,
as Colt claims in interview that he felt really bad about the
disastrous tasting and wanted to make it up to her. So you're on the
way to make it up to her, and you're going to be a smartass about how
she's hot because you live in the desert and have a car with no air
conditioning? They're going to look at a “one bedroom apartment”.
Immediate flashback to Larissa talking about a big house with a pool.
Colt is also upset that Larissa doesn't want to live with his mother,
but honestly that's the most normal thing she's demanded. Well that
and for him not to flirt with random girls, and to respect her fear
of heights. Larissa interviews that Colt is a mother's boy and he
needs to be a man and not live with his mother.
The
agent shows them a loft which is very nice. Big kitchen, big master
bedroom. Larissa loves it. She interviews that Colt's mom is like a
cat: she disappears, but then reappears when it's time to make your
life hell. She tries to be nice, but Larissa thinks she is
manipulating everything to be the victim. She doesn't want to live
with Mom, but it's hard because she can't work and so she can't
really do anything with money. The agent tells them that the loft is
furnished and will cost $3250 a month. Jeez. Unfurnished is $1650. I
don't know if that's good for Vegas or not. Colt says it's more than
they're currently paying, and that's divided up with his mom. He
wants to make sure his mom's OK with not living with them. Why have
you not had that conversation yet? Why does everyone on this show
leave their big conversations until the absolute last minute where it
causes giant headaches? Larissa is firm about not living with Mom,
but Colt insists she knew he lived with his mom when she agreed to
marry him. What, so she's never allowed to not like the situation?
Colt does some emotional manipulation of his own by throwing his dead
father in Larissa's face, saying his mom is his only family. That
doesn't mean you have to live with her. Larissa really wants to live
somewhere like here, and Colt tells her it's not fair to make him
choose between her and his mother. It's totally fair and everyone
does it all the time. I kind of wish Larissa would leave him because
then how would he justify it, you know? He claims he'd never ask her
to make the same choice, which she clearly doesn't believe judging by
her face. Colt continues to forget he has a cousin who is also his
family, and says it's his responsibility to look after her. You'd
think after several girlfriends, including this one, have told him
he's too attached to his mother, that he'd figure it out. But he's
shown himself to be an idiot, because clearly all the superior logic
he claims to have goes right out the window when you talk about his
mom. The poor agent has had to listen to this stupid argument. Colt
thinks that since Larissa knew he lived with his mom, and she still
agreed to come to Vegas, she must have been fine with it. He wants to
keep her happy, but he hasn't done a great job so far.
30
days for Ashley and Jay. Ashley says she just wants to look forward
to her wedding, but Jay randomly leaves the house and takes her car,
and also has been messaging random girls. I'm going to try to not say
it all the time, but: you were warned, and you got so delusional you
broke a friendship for Jay. So I don't have much sympathy for you
now. Ashley claims she doesn't have “good luck” finding
“faithful” men in her life. Cheating is wrong, but when EVERY
relationship you have ends in cheating? You know? She thinks Jay
understands her because he knows her past, which, he might, but that
doesn't mean he cares enough not to do it. Ashley declares he can't
leave the house without her permission, because it's “disrespectful.”
Yeah this is a terrible idea.
Jay
comes downstairs and slams dishes around, then asks her if she's
still mad about yesterday. She tones down what she said in
confessional and just says she doesn't like when he leaves and she
doesn't know where he's going. Jay knows she has trust issues. But he
says he's just running down the road to get food or something, so
she's just going to have to learn to trust him. Jay tells her that
this is new, informing people on where he's going. He's used to just
doing whatever. “But I don't like when you're upset with me, and
stuff.” He apologizes, which should make Ashley feel bad, but I'm
sure she just feels like she won. You remember last episode that Jay
said he feels like he always has to apologize because Ashley never
admits she's wrong. Ashley just stares at him and says nothing. Jay
understands why she was mad, he should have told her that he was
leaving, and he slept on the couch last night. Yesterday he said he
wasn't a child and shouldn't have to wait for her to get out of the
shower to go do something. Ashley, after what feels like a week, says
she appreciates the apology and that their communication hasn't been
good. She will not make eye contact with him, unlike Jay looking at
her. Jay wants to work through everything they're going through, and
he says sometimes she has to learn from her mistakes, like he is
learning from his. She I think admits she has trust issues, although
her tone when she's speaking is like a verbal eye roll. Like she
doesn't think she has trust issues, but everyone tells her she does
and she's trying not to be a total bitch on TV. I'm sick of hearing
her tell him that “they” need to work on communication. She can't
even look at him until she thanks him for dinner. Jay says he loves
her, and she SIMPERS. The worst. Jay says he knows this relationship
is real because he's putting in the effort to work things out and
learn. Fair. He tells Ashley he's working on helping with chores. She
still sucks.
38
days for Fernanda and Jonathan. They're going to try on wedding
dresses. Well, Fernanda is going with his sister. Jackie has been
really supportive, even though in confessional she hasn't hidden her
uncomfortableness well. But she's there for Fernanda, which counts
for something. They don't know if Jonathan's mom is coming, but
Jackie told her when and where, so they'll just have to wait and see
if she shows up. Fernanda is upset because his mom knew she was
alone, but still had to “think about it”. They sit by the door to
wait for his mom, but I feel like they should just start without her,
because she refused to say she was coming. On the other hand, this is
probably a person who will guilt trip everyone and start a fight if
they don't wait. Fernanda's mom can't come to the wedding, so she
wishes Jonathan's mom would understand that and be kind enough to be
there for Fernanda in this moment. Aww. I can't tell if Mom is
creating healthy boundaries, because she can't handle the
relationship and she doesn't want to ruin the day, or if she's being
petty and childish. She seemed petty. Honestly I get why Fernanda
wants her there, but after how she acted I wouldn't want her to ruin
it. Fernanda tells Jackie her mom was upset and she understands that.
Jackie interviews that she can't even imagine getting married without
her friends and her mom. So I think Jackie gets it, at least a little
bit.
Oh
look, she showed up. Fernanda looks terrified. Mom says that she
decided if Fernanda is going to be part of the family, she should be
here and support Fernanda and be part of finding her a dress. You can
tell she would rather not be there, though. I'm not sure if she's
trying because she wants to accept Fernanda, or because she doesn't
want to look like a bitch on TV. Fernanda thanks her and hugs her, as
does Jackie. Mom says it's happening quickly and it's a lot to
process, but it's going to happen regardless of what she thinks. She
seriously thinks this whole thing will explode in her face and she'll
be vindicated.
Fernanda
says that she's been dreaming about her dress since she was a kid,
like many girls, so she's going to try on something she's always
thought about and then something different and see what happens. Mom
snipes that this is not what she was expecting to do today, and
Jackie says “Well, it's very nice of you to come.” Mom brings up
Fernanda's age again, in case you were unaware, and then sighs that
they have to support Jonathan. Just say you're not OK with it and
stop speaking to everyone so we can all get over it. Fernanda's first
dress is very sleek and modern, with detached sleeves and no back and
a train. It looks amazing. Jackie says it looks mature (ha) and Mom
tries to start a fight, but then realizes she looks dumb and just
sort of trails off. Once she leaves, Jackie expresses surprise,
because it's not something she expected Fernanda to pick out. Mom
says something more “age-appropriate” would be better, but what
do you think that is, exactly? Also, it's been like two minutes and
I'm already sick of her harping on Fernanda being 19. Jackie tells
her mom she's freaking out, because if Jonathan knows his mom, so
does Jackie. Fernanda's next dress is a big poofy ball gown with a
crystal bodice. Her boobs look good. Hee. The shop worker says that
it's more playful, and Mom says “More age appropriate, isn't it? In
a way?” SHUT UP ALREADY. Fernanda immediately says “No.” Good.
Mom of course then freaks out because she got shut down. Third dress
is another long sleek gown, with long sleeves and a high boatneck,
but backless. She says this third dress is the one. She looks
amazing. Jackie asks Fernanda what she thinks her mom would think,
which makes Fernanda tear up a little bit. Aww. Mom says she's going
to make her cry, as if she's cared about Fernanda's feelings at any
point in this entire process. Mom goes and says “Are you OK? I'm
sorry” and lets Fernanda cry on her shoulder. I don't buy it.
Supposedly she feels for her, being a mom. But she didn't care last
night? And then she asks if Fernanda still wants to do it, because I
told you guys. Jackie does yell at her though. Mom interviews that
it's really happening, now that she's got a dress, but she still
doesn't think it's a good idea. Fernanda thinks Jonathan's mom is
trying to get to know her better, but she's not as comfortable as she
wants. She also doesn't want to be in the middle of Jonathan and his
mother's problems.
Time
for Steven's stupid ass. Look I'm going to open with that until he
stops being stupid. He's acting like they're fighting and it's
terrible but without taking any responsibility for his share of the
fighting as far as I can see. He's determined that his son will know
a healthy family, which is great, but he's also not shown that he
thinks any of the unhealthiness is his fault. They take the baby out
for a walk in the “fancy park”, which is the first time they're
leaving the house as a family, and also involves a car ride. Somehow
this is going to improve their relationship? Not if Steven's still
ordering Olga around as if she doesn't understand car seats. They
have a dumb fight about how he insists on the car seat, she doesn't
want to put him in it because it's not for newborns, and...actually
she doesn't know how to work the car seat, for real. Steven doesn't
understand it either, so at least that's fine. Well, now he thinks
that Russian car seats are just stupid, because American car seats
are never this complicated. Oh like you've ever dealt with an
American car seat except for when you were in one. Olga suggests she
just take the baby home, and Steven gets snippy that she should just
decide then, whatever you want. Well, the baby is fussing and neither
of you can figure out the car seat. I'm not sure why, since they put
the baby in the car seat to get home from the hospital. Olga is upset
because she's still in pain from the C-section, and Steven is
“screaming” at her. He's not “screaming”, although he is
still being a pain in the ass.
Olga
goes home and puts the baby on the bed, and then when Steven shows
up, he refuses to shut the door until “you come on”. Didn't you
just say “whatever you want”? Make up your mind. Olga just says
OK and then doesn't move, and asks Steven to open the window. Steven
crosses his arms like a sulking child and says that he put the
stroller together, then broke it down, then put it in the car, then
“went through hell and back” with the car seat, and now she
doesn't want to go. Olga keeps insisting the car seat is not for a
newborn. Olga (I think this is what she means) asks him to put the
stroller back together and they'll just walk around here. Steven is
horrified that anyone would want to walk “around here”, although
I don't see the problem. Steven claims in interview to be trying his
best. I find it interesting that Olga's interviews are about how
Steven is a jerk, and Steven's interviews are about how it's so
terribly hard for them, and he doesn't want his son to be exposed to
fighting, and now he's claiming he's doing his best. Oh, and Olga
doesn't understand or appreciate all the things he's doing for her.
He doesn't get his way and just walks away. Sigh.
59
days for Eric and Leida. They head to the wedding venue. Leida is
still sulking about Tasha, supposedly because Tasha hasn't been
paying rent or bills so she can save for her own place. And Eric
didn't tell her so that's apparently what she's upset about. Eric
says the venue is already paid for so they're locked in. Leida
pretends she understands it won't be extravagant like her last
wedding. Which her parents paid $300,000 for. Eric is paying for all
of the wedding, because he wants to prove to her family that he can
afford it. Leida claims she wants “simple” but “the best”.
Eric knows that he can't live up to her expectations. Tellingly, he
goes to hold her hand in the parking lot and she gives him a look and
says she's holding her bag. Which is in the crook of her elbow, not
her hand.
It
looks like a nice hotel banquet hall, pretty standard. The carpet
isn't great, and it's not any fancier than those long tables with the
cloth skirts, you know what I mean. Cash bar, and some extra seats
just in case. Eric reveals there will be 25 people, all his family
and friends, because Leida's family can't make it back. They asked
her dad just before he left last episode, and he said he didn't know.
Eric thinks Leida's OK with it, but they can't do anything about it
anyway. Leida thinks it's bland. They can bring decorations in,
because of course it's bland while they're just getting shown the
room. Leida I guess doesn't want decorations, just flowers. Outside,
Leida actually says she is glad her family won't be here, because
they'll just complain about how Eric is doing it wrong. Eric,
meanwhile, knows Leida wants more, but he's not sure exactly what
else she wants.
56
days for Kalani and Asuelu. She misses California, and is trying to
spin her short-sighted life choices as “losing” her job and her
sister. Also she's still whining about how immature Asuelu is and how
her son isn't safe with him. Kalani presents herself as vigilant and
responsible, but the more she talks about how much Asuelu is an idiot
as if she has always known what to do and has never fucked up, the
more overprotective she sounds. Yes, you should always watch the baby
and not be on your phone. But don't tell me you never made a mistake?
Not one? Kolini is coming to Utah so they can go dress shopping.
First of all, I thought you were never going to marry him because he
was so shitty at child care. Secondly, Kalani says she is looking
forward to some much needed girls time, and she really talks a LOT
about how much she needs to relax, or just have time with her family,
or whatever. Like every episode there is something about how she
can't think about her stress right now, she just needs her mom to
watch Oliver so she can spend time with Asuelu, or something like
that. She's too excited to take a break. Kalani asks Asuelu if he's
nervous about her sister coming, and he immediately says no. I guess
that's not the right answer, because her follow-up comment is “you
know she's still watching you.” Kolini arrives, and says she wants
to hang out with Kalani and Oliver, and get to know Asuelu if they
have time. Then she says she's going to keep an eye on him to see if
he puts the baby in danger. JESUS FUCKING CHRIST JUST DUMP HIM
ALREADY IF HE'S SUCH A FUCKING DANGER TO THE BABY. Either he's fine,
or he should never be around the baby and you need to tell him to go
back to Samoa. But you can't complain at every turn about what a
terrible father he is and then do nothing about it. Kalani blames her
sister's doubts on “overprotective sisterhood” and not “the
lies I told my sister and then never corrected”.
So
the girls go dress shopping, and Kalani says if it wasn't for the 90
days then she'd never be getting married, but now she has to go dress
shopping. OK well you still don't have to get married. You'll also
not be surprised to know that the sisters and their mom have brought
the baby because of course they did. Kalani also has no date, no
venue, she has planned nothing. I'm sure she feels it's because
Asuelu sucks so much, but I am sure also because she dodges anything
that is important but difficult. Like working, like telling her
sister she lied, like talking to Asuelu about her doubts. The worker
confused but she gets it together. Kalani says it's weird because I
guess she didn't think this would ever happen. She feels panicked,
but it's not like she didn't know there was a deadline? The first
dress is off the shoulder and it's really gorgeous. When the worker
asks if she could see herself in this dress (or does she want to try
something else), Kalani says she feels weird. Kolini says she's weird
with commitment. Kalani claims she is realizing that decisions will
have to be made, and it's all real now. It was real when you got
pregnant and gave birth, but sure. Kolini makes a “joke” about
being able to run in the dress, in the “It's a joke but I know this
will also stab you” way only a sibling can do. Kalani wants to try
on other dresses and not commit to this one, because that would
involve a decision. Mom even confirms in the interview that Kalani
has commitment issues. We don't see any more dresses, because Kalani
feels rushed and panicked and NOW she thinks they should have a
conversation.
Larissa
and Colt go home, and Colt says he doesn't want to leave his mom, but
he also doesn't want Larissa to leave him. So they're going to move
out after the wedding. He also thinks his mom doesn't know this is
happening, but I think she suspects. Unlike Kalani, they're going to
actually have this difficult conversation now, and not at the last
minute, or never. There are couches now, so I guess they agreed on
something. Colt admits they looked at houses, and Larissa says they
found a one bedroom loft that was amazing. I think she did hesitate,
it's not like she just started in immediately gloating about how they
don't have room for her. Mom isn't very happy, but she also didn't
know that's where they were so she didn't have warning this was
happening today. Colt asks where she would go, as if she's offered to
leave without prompting and he doesn't think it's a good idea. Mom
says if they moved out, she'd find some “senior living”. Don't
feel you're tied down to me. Larissa says it would be more
comfortable, which is true, but also maybe not what to say right now.
I'm not sure what she should say, though. Nothing, probably. Mom's
sad to move, and Colt of course now thinks that his mom should live
like, next door to them. Or if they got a bigger house? Come on. Colt
thinks Larissa might come around and get along with his mom, and
change her mind about his mom living with them, because Colt is an
idiot.
Eric
and Leida are now headed to meet with the florist. You'll recall that
Leida said she wanted something simple, but now she's saying the
venue is too simple and she doesn't want to be too simple. At least
she's got her arm linked with Eric. The florist starts talking about
the plan she has, based on the drawing of the venue and Eric's budget
of $400. Now, the internet is the internet and wedding costs vary
widely based on pretty much everything, but this seems very low. All
white roses. Leida isn't thrilled, and when asked by the florist,
sort of nonchalantly describes how huge and extravagant her flowers
were at her first wedding. She shows a picture, and the florist says
she's never had the opportunity to do something like that. “Like a
TV show”, she says, as she's being filmed for a TV show. Eric tells
us that Leida's flowers at her first wedding cost more than this
whole Wisconsin wedding will cost. All this $400 is going to get them
is a bouquet, a boutonniere, and centerpieces. The florist gets an
interview, so she can say that the budget for this wedding is very
modest, and that's not bad exactly, but it is going to require
some adjustment on Leida's part. Just as a comparison, one of the
huge vases from her last wedding is $400. Leida looks gobsmacked,
like she had no concept of money and didn't realize her last wedding
cost so much. Maybe she didn't. She hates the venue, and now she
doesn't want a “simple flat wedding” and she has class and taste
and Eric has to work with her. Meaning “Eric has to do what I
want”. Leida gets her phone out again and asks the florist about
some different standing arrangements, like six-foot high columns with
huge flowers on top. The florist says she can, but they'd have to at
least double the budget, if not more. Maybe triple. Eric doesn't want
to pay $1200 for flowers, and Leida just looks at him with the facial
expression of someone who thinks they're going to get their way. She
says she's just afraid this is not enough, is all. Leida claims that
she understands Eric isn't wealthy, but then she says that if Eric
wasn't paying child support they could spend more money on the
wedding. Yeah that's going to go over well. Sadly Eric caves and says
they can double the floral budget, but no more than that. Leida is
suddenly all smiles. Eric says if it takes more flowers to make her
happy, then OK. They're over budget, but he'll figure it out. Leida
is happy because this proves she's his priority. Just don't fuck up
later.
Steven
is still whining about the fighting, and how he's running errands and
cleaning the house. It IS probably not great to have him running
errands, because he doesn't speak Russian. But I'm not sure how
mobile Olga is. I guess she could leave the baby with Steven? He's at
the pharmacy picking up medication for baby acne. He struggles with
payment, but the pharmacist writes the number down and Russian money
has regular Arabic numerals on it, so...? Steven is also taking the
probably stupid viewpoint that Olga doesn't appreciate him enough.
When
Steven gets home, Olga is feeding the baby. Once everything is put
away, Steven plants himself because he's had a lot of time to think.
Strap in, y'all. Olga used to be very happy to see him when they
first started dating, and it was hard for them when she left, but
“you still missed me all. The. Time.” And she was excited to see
him when he got off the train in Russia. “But then everything
changed.” You can tell Steven rehearsed this lecture in his head on
the way home or something. Also, of course something changed SHE HAD
A BABY YOU IMBECILE. Then he asks her what happened, but not like “I
don't get it, tell me what happened”, but the tone I use on my
students when I ask them the next step. Olga doesn't get why he
thinks she would be supper happy after an operation. Steven claims
he's not asking her to be super happy, except for the part where he
totally was. He thinks she's not excited that he's here. It's a valid
concern, even with couples that never were separated and don't have
anything else stressful going on. A baby changes your relationship.
Steven also claims he's busting his ass (“literally”) to get her
visa before he has to leave. “You should be appreciating every
single thing I'm doing for you.” There was a brief window where he
at least was saying the right things, but I guess that's gone now.
Richie is two weeks old and Olga thinks it's natural that she take
care of the baby. But Steven won't listen to her. He demands a thank
you. Actually he asks if she's ever thanked him, and when she says
she has, he talks over her to say she never has “because I would
remember that”. He tells her that their son can't be the main thing
and they have to focus on their relationship too. I don't recall you
having that viewpoint when you were railing against the hospital
keeping you from your son and mentioning Olga once. “The kid can't
be before me.” I can't even make comments about this bullshit. He
also claims the kid can't come before Olga. They have a dual
interview where he says to her that he knows she puts the baby before
him, and Olga asks him not to compare himself with the baby, and he
claims he isn't doing that. Olga flat out asks him if he's jealous
(you are, you idiot) and he won't answer that. She's not affectionate
towards him, but I haven't seen him even try to be affectionate
towards her. What has she done for Steven lately? All she does is
stay at home, feed the baby, watch the baby. Now he's sulking because
she wouldn't sleep next to him, I guess. When Olga finally says she
appreciates him, he interrupts her to say she should show him, and
then when she is frustrated (as anyone would be because of his stupid
bullshit) he's like, see? You're already getting irritated. Having a
healthy relationship doesn't mean you get to act like an asshole and
as long as no one calls you on being an asshole then everything is
fine. Olga tells him that he's forced her to appreciate him, by
demanding it. But now it's not enough to just say so, now she has to
“show it”, except of course he hasn't explained how he wants that
done, because I'm sure he doesn't know. He probably just wants her to
grovel because he's jealous of the attention the baby is getting
because he's a child. Olga tells him she has hormones and maybe he
can calm down, and then she bursts into tears. “You think it's hard
for you?” Yeah, it is, because she was pregnant and unmarried this
whole time, and alone, and then she thought you coming would be great
and you ended up being another child for her to take care of. Don't
compare your difficulty in reading fucking numbers with giving birth.
He says she doesn't understand how he feels inside. No one cares,
asshole. Steven says he doesn't know what's going to happen in the
future with this, as if his going away forever was a threat at this
point. Please do. Then Steven decides he needs to clear his head
because “I can't keep listening to this stuff” so he leaves.
Yeah, real healthy there, asshole. “I can't keep listening to this
stuff” as if you weren't doing all the talking and Olga was
basically trying to stroke your ego the way you demanded.
Steven
goes outside and claims he's trying his hardest, which is some
colossal bullshit. He knows his family has anger issues and he
doesn't want to fight in front of the baby, but then he went home and
deliberately picked a fight. So zero sympathy for you too. Now the
complaint is that his family ignores him and Olga is too. So she must
not love him. I'd ignore you too if all I got was sulking and
demanding attention. Olga is worried because if they fight in
America, she won't have anyone, no friends, just Steven. He goes back
home, sadly, because I wanted her to lock him out. The baby is
squalling, and Steven doesn't say anything when Olga ignores him, but
I've paused the video on his face and he's jealous. You can tell.
He's pissed the baby is crying and Olga didn't drop everything to beg
for his forgiveness, and he's mad the baby is getting more attention
than he is but on some level he knows to keep his damn mouth shut. He
says again in confessional about how if “they” fight all the time
then he can't bring up his son in that environment. Well quit picking
fights then. They could have had that conversation like adults,
except for he rehearsed his dumbass speech about how she was an
ungrateful cow and then didn't accept her apology. Olga apologizes
for being rude, because just like Jay and Ashley, one person is a
dick and one person will always have to be the one who apologizes.
Because Steven is a total asshole, instead of accepting it, or
apologizing for his part in it, he just starts in on Olga again,
about how she knew how he grew up, and neither of them had love, and
now they're doing it to themselves. You can't argue that the baby is
being ignored, or that he's unloved. So fuck off. He graciously says
he's giving her a chance to change and show him because he wants
their family to be happy. I hope she takes the baby and disappears
and strands him there. Olga asks why it's all on her, why is she
going to have to fix it? Attagirl. She bursts into tears again, and
Steven says the last thing he wants to do is make her cry. THEN SHUT
THE FUCK UP AND STOP BEING AN ASSHOLE. Olga is worried about the
baby, and Steven insists she worries too much. Who is the one who
refused to drive without the car seat? He still hasn't apologized.
Not even an apology tacked onto how he doesn't want to make her cry.
But she still needs to do whatever he wants. Olga asks if he thinks
the baby is the problem, since he keeps harping on how she pays too
much attention to the baby and the baby can't come first. Steven says
of course the baby isn't the problem, which contradicts what he has
been saying all night. It's that Olga gives the baby all her
attention. Olga points out that if she didn't care, she wouldn't be
sitting here trying to fix this. Steven just wants Olga to be happy
when she sees him. Well then how about not being an asshole so
whenever you show up she doesn't have to worry about stroking your
ego so you don't yell at her? Olga promises she's happy, which is too
bad because I wish she'd told him to knock it off. Well she did say
that it wasn't all her job to fix it. Their relationship is hard, and
they need to pay attention to the good stuff. In the dual interview,
Steven admits he knows he has anger problems, basically. But he's
very nonchalant about it, because nothing is ever his fault. Olga
says they need to work on that, and he needs to work on it. He claims
he agrees, but he's seeing how she's going to be when they go to
America and if they're going to work out. As if she would never find
him lacking and do the breaking up.
Jay
and Ashley drive to the venue. For some reason there's a balloon in
the back seat in the shape of a ring that says “I Do”. Ashley
tells us that she and Jay talked about their fight and “worked
through it”, which I am assuming means Jay apologized and Ashley
told him he can't leave without permission. They're out at a barn,
because Ashley has planned everything already. Jay says Ashley won't
tell him anything but that it's at a barn, there will be 100 people
there, and he's wearing a maroon tux. It is a nice venue. Jay says in
Jamaica no one makes such a huge deal about weddings, at least not
spending as much money, I guess.
They
drive home and Ashley's phone starts blowing up. People are messaging
her to tell her to look at their wedding website. Apparently there
are hundreds of comments, N-bombs in every one. Jesus. I guess
they're all anonymous, and just as racist as possible. Jay hasn't
experienced this level of racism before. Ashley keeps reading random
comments to Jay, which, I'm sure that the producers wanted them to
but I don't know that either of them should read any of them. Some
comments have threatened to come to the wedding, and Ashley is
interpreting those comments as threatening. I'm not sure why Ashley
didn't lock down the website, and why anyone can comment on it. They
both said they don't know who wrote these comments, and if the
website wasn't public then they'd be talking about how it had to be
someone they knew. But Ashley has also (foolishly IMO) put all the
details about the wedding right there on the website, so the threat
to shoot up the wedding is actually a serious one. Ashley gets
philosophical about how can someone hate just based on the color of
their skin? I didn't know racism was so serious! Jay feels
responsible, simply because if he wasn't here, these people wouldn't
have emerged. Ashley responds that she has a bunch of black friends
and they're not like this. Well, yeah, your black friends are not
like this. Do you mean no one is hateful to them? Because I am sure
you are wrong about that. Jay suggests they just stay in and keep a
low profile, but Ashley insists that he needs to go out and get
comfortable, just be alert. No. Jay is the one people are attacking,
and he gets to decide if he wants to deal with other people's
bullshit. It's on Ashley to be the one who goes out and tells all
these white people to fuck off. She says she can't fathom how he
feels, except for the part where she knew better than him about if he
should confront people or not. She promises she won't let any one
disrespect him (except her, I guess). Now she's questioning
everything because she's realizing how seriously naive she was. Jay
wants to go back to Jamaica.
Kalani
is still talking about her doubts, because I am sure she didn't talk
to Asuelu yet, so they're all going out with her sister, because
Kolini wants to talk to Asuelu about...who the fuck knows. Kalani
needs to talk to her own fiancee, instead of having her whole damn
family spy on him and confront him for her. Kolini needs to know if
Asuelu is here for her sister, instead of just trying to be in
America. When she asks if they like Utah, Kalani complains she's
getting used to it, and Asuelu says it's a nice place, and he misses
his family, but he wants to be here to be close to Kalani and Oliver
so he's happy. Heh. He just pre-empted a gang of Kolini's questions,
I'm sure. Kolini keeps on grilling him, and asks where he'd be if he
hadn't met Kalani. Probably in Samoa, and yes, he liked that she was
American, because America is a big country. Asuelu says in
confessional that he wants to be with Kalani because when he was
little, he wanted to leave Samoa to find a better life. He admits to
the sisters that he did think about how maybe he'd end up in America,
after he met Kalani, but he wasn't sure that would happen. But of
course he thought about it. Anyone would think about it, this is
stupid. “So why did you like how Kalani's American?” Asuelu says
no, he liked her personality, her love. Sure. He never tried to be
like “Oh I like her she's from America and has lots of money.”
Fuck you, producers, for cutting that as if that was his answer to
“Why do you like my sister?” Kalani then says she thought he was
saying the opposite of that. Have you really thought all this time
that he just wanted to be with you to get to America? And you still
helped him get the visa? And instead of talking to him like an adult
you just assumed until your sister asked him? Get out of here with
that. Asuelu says she misunderstands him, because of the cultural
difference. I'm not sure which “she” he means, because it could
apply to both.
Kolini
asks how America is different from what he thought, and he says that
when a Samoan man marries a white woman, they only love their own
family. But when two Samoans marry, they both love each other's
families. I think that's what he's saying. Kalani asks what he thinks
the situation is here, and he says sometimes she doesn't like his
family. Kalani is confused, and he says like yesterday when they
Skyped with his brother. Kalani responds that his brother said
something sexual to her and she was uncomfortable, but she says it to
her sister, and she also gets out her condescending mom tone, because
Asuelu is clearly too stupid to understand. Kalani claims he said
“When you're done with her I want a turn with her.” OK that's
bullshit. The mom tone can stop but whatever you said to his brother
is cool and I support it. Kalani informs Asuelu that he won't be
acting like she hates his family for no reason. She also interviews
that she has done a lot for his family and she's very nice to them. I
mean, whatever, but if she wants to bag on his brother forever, I
have no problem with that. In the restaurant, she does say it's not
fair to say she doesn't care about his family because she's done a
lot for them, so I guess that part's true. She even disobeyed her
father, because he didn't want her to take Oliver to Samoa, but she
wanted the baby to meet Asuelu's parents. “I went against my dad,
so your family could see my baby.” Not “our baby”, Kalani? I
guess that's the problem. Asuelu is just sitting there, and when
Kalani asks if he has anything to say, he says he wants to go home.
Then he walks out. Kalani claims to be embarrassed that her sister
has witnessed this, which is nonsense. She knew her sister was going
to grill him, and she didn't care about any dysfunction that might
have popped up from that, based on the questions she was asking. Now
she's giving Kolini reasons not to be supportive. You mean like the
reasons you gave yesterday when you wanted to be super dramatic about
your wedding dress? The sisters shittalk Asuelu and how terrible his
communication is, as if the two of them were shining examples of
adults who communicated perfectly. Kolini doesn't want her sister to
get married, I think partially because she doesn't want her sister to
feel like she has to get married, but she also says “I wouldn't
want her to marry that”. That. I rewound it, that's what she said.
Asuelu thinks that Kalani is going to send him back to Samoa after
this fight.
Leida
is still pissed about Tasha, because they don't have room. Also Eric
doesn't have a proper bed? He says they sleep on a box spring with “a
thick mattress pad”. But not a real mattress? Leida tries to claim
that because they don't have a real bed, or I guess separate
bedrooms, Alless woke up and jumped on her bed. I do agree they need
a real bed, and Alless should have his own room. But she's acting
like Eric doesn't see any problem with the set-up. He's not Colt.
Leida interviews that it's Eric's job to provide a better life for
her and her son. Then he should have joined you in Indonesia. Eric is
cheap and has just the basics. Leida is the opposite, and they hadn't
figured this out yet? So they're buying a new bed and a couch, to
make her happy. At the store, Leida says “When I sit on it, you
have to get it for me.” No, but nice try. It is a nice couch, but
it's $4,000. You can get a cheaper couch. This store is too
expensive. All these couches are a couple thousand dollars at least.
Leida claims again that she understands Eric isn't wealthy, which she
says a lot, right before demanding that he spend a bunch of money on
her. “But when I was in Indonesia, Eric promised me that he would
take care of me and Allessandro. So he needs to do better.” There
it is. They try out beds. Eric turned down the money that Leida's
father offered, which I agree was maybe not the best decision. Eric
has to buy Alless a proper bed. That's fair. Whatever bed set they're
looking at is $7,000, and Leida's response is “But I wanna get a
new bed.” Eric tells her that anything over a few hundred isn't
happening today. I feel like $7,000 is probably greater than Eric's
entire wedding budget. Leida asks why they did the furniture shopping
right now, then? Eric didn't know how much anything cost here. Leida
gets mad at him for that, for some reason, and asks if she's just
supposed to accept that. Either get money from your family or shut up
about it. Eric responds that's reality, and reality and feelings are
two different things. Yeah, I think Leida is trying to say that since
she doesn't like this (not buying whatever she wants) that trumps the
reality of Eric being broke. She also thinks that saying “I don't
like that” should cause everyone around her to immediately stop and
do whatever she wants. Leida interviews that she's been lied to.
Well, fair, in that Eric didn't tell her what his apartment was
really like, but she supposedly did know he wasn't rich. Also just
because you can't have the expensive bed you want doesn't mean you
can't have a bed and no one is providing for you.
Leida
storms out of the store. Eric eventually follows her, as he
interviews that he just doesn't have the money to do what she wants.
When he gets out to the car, he asks what that was about, as if no
one could tell. Leida says she wants to get rid of the twin bed they
have, right now. They can't do it right now, though. “I wanna get
what I want, right now!” OK Veruca, calm down. And Eric has to make
that happen. She interviews that she was promised they would have
“happiness” through “hard work”. I guess she's finally
actually realizing Eric isn't wealthy. Finally. But now it's that
he's so broke he can't provide for her and her son. I am sure he
could, it's just not going to be up to whatever standards your family
has, which is why everyone asked why he didn't move to Indonesia to
live with you in your giant house with domestic help. Eric says she
can have the things she wants, but it will take time. Then she starts
cursing about child support and Tasha and the wedding venue, and how
she just has to accept everything, so when does she get her way? What
is she doing here? We don't know that either, and you got your way at
the florist so shush. Leida has been disappointed with him all the
time. Also she's decided that because of the child support, there is
nothing left for Alless. I can't believe she would bring up providing
for her son a million times, but not how Eric should provide for HIS
kids. Eric says that he never promised her all these things. He's not
rich and they'll have to pick and choose bills. The implication is
that she was well aware of how things are and she's chosen to forget.
Leida feels blamed (because yes, because she's being unreasonable)
and asks if she has to accept everything. Yes, unless you're going to
get money from somewhere. Now they go back to “I don't like it”
as an argument. Eric says she didn't care before, and I guess it was
all fine when she was not in America? But now that she's here, it is
a problem. She changes her tune in confessional, saying that it's
about her son, and if he's not going to have a better life here, then
it's not worth it. I thought it was about how your family is
controlling and you didn't like living with them? Eric's right: I'm
not sure how she could know Eric wasn't wealthy but still expect to
keep her standard of living. Now she's never going to be happy and
she'll never accept his child support. It's not necessary in
Indonesia. But it is here. Eric says the same thing, because it's
true. He doesn't realize he has a burden. Eric says his children
aren't a burden, and she needs to get rid of her “selfish,
Indonesian culture background”. In America, family is what matters.
OK that's not true, and I'm not sure it's her being from Indonesia
that is causing this conflict. “Selfish” I can get behind though.
He says even kids from a different marriage count as family, which is
good seeing as how she's now claiming her son is her reason for being
here. Leida continues her tantrum and declares she doesn't want to
get married then. OK bye. Eric confirms that she doesn't want to
marry him because he's paying child support, and she says yeah, I'll
just give the ring back to you. “Let's just end this.” Eric just
stares at her for a while.
Next
time (but probably not): Ashley and Jay are canceling their wedding,
Fernanda tells Jonathan to fix his relationship with his mom, Larissa
and John (Colt's cousin) have a big fight, which includes Larissa
saying “Who is against the Queen will die!” because she sucks,
Olga's friend shows up and Steven continues to be an idiot, Kalani
doesn't want to marry Asuelu for whatever stupid reason, everyone is
against Leida.
