TAR23, Recap Leg 8, 11/17/13

Welcome to Leg 8! Last time, on Abu Dhabi The Place To Be For Any Kitten That’s Annoying Me, teams raced from Austria to the United Arab Emirates.  Nicole is off her game, and Nicky and Kim miss the boat they need to take.  Leo and Jamal manage to get themselves into first, while Nicky and Kim find the second non-elimination leg.  Who will be eliminated. . . next? Clue: Drive to the sand dunes!  Travel to Garage Row and find bay 14.  Once there, use the Viking Coins to decipher the message on the bag, which will give you the code to the Ford Explorer with Ecoboost.  Then drive yourself to the sand dunes to get your next clue.  You have $1 for this leg of the race.  Caution: U-Turn Ahead!

Teams arrive at the garage in the following order:

1- Leo/Jamal

3- Nicole/Travis – Travis: “We’re not OK with the Afghanimals lying.”  (Toyouke: “You're going to U-turn them because they lied about U-turning people? Who cares? You could be rid of Marie.”)

4- Tim/Marie

5- Ally/Ashley

6- Nicky/Kim

Teams use the coin code to open their cars.  They are then instructed to drive themselves to the Al Khatim desert and find the dune buggies on the side of the road.  Teams arrive at the dune buggies in the following order:

1- Leo/Jamal
2- Nicole/Travis
3- Jason/Amy

4- Tim/Marie

5- Nicky/Kim

6- Ally/Ashley

Teams now drive themselves to find the next clue by following flags in the desert.  Teams get to the clue in following order:

1- Leo/Jamal
2- Nicole/Travis
3- Jason/Amy

4- Tim/Marie

5- Ally/Ashley

6- Nicky/Kim

Teams are now instructed to return to their Ford Explorer and drive themselves to Al Ain Oasis.  (Toyouke: “That was a task? "Drive into the desert and then come back?" Whatever.“)  Once there, teams will look in the date palms for their next clue.  (Kmanpat: “Nutbunches!”) Teams drive themselves and arrive in Al-Ain Oasis, where attendants get their clues in following order:

1- Nicole/Travis
2- Leo/Jamal
3- Tim/Marie

4- Jason/Amy

5- Ally/Ashley

6- Nicky/Kim

And we get the Detour Clue.

DETOUR:
Wedding Guests OR Beauty Contest

All teams travel to Al Jahili Fort for the Detour options.

*Wedding Guests: Teams must prepare an Emirati dish by collecting and preparing all of the ingredients, delivering them to a chef for approval, and then taking a finished dish to be served to get the next clue.
*Beauty Contest: Teams must use a set of criteria to choose a prize winning camel, decorate it in Arab dress and walk it to a panel of judges to get their next clue.

(Toyouke: “I feel like the cooking Detour is a trick. It seems fine but also like it would take forever. I bet no one does it except whoever gets U-Turned.”)

1- Nicole/Travis choose Beauty Contest – and then promptly use the Express Pass to get out of the Detour.

2- Leo/Jamal choose Wedding Guests – but get scared when they see Tim and Marie having completed their task, so they Bald Snark to Beauty Contest.  (Toyouke: “Of course those two idiots prove me wrong.”)
3- Tim/Marie choose Beauty Contest

4- Jason/Amy choose Beauty Contest

5- Nicky/Kim choose Wedding Guests

6- Ally/Ashley choose Beauty Contest

Teams complete the detour in the following order:

1- Nicole/Travis
2- Tim/Marie
3- Jason/Amy

4- Leo/Jamal  

5- Ally/Ashley

6- Nicky/Kim

Teams are now instructed to travel on foot to Al Jahili Tower, where they will get their next clue.

The teams arrive at the tower in the following order:

1- Nicole/Travis
2- Jason/Amy
3- Leo/Jamal

4- Tim/Marie  

5- Ally/Ashley

6- Nicky/Kim

When they arrive, teams find the U-Turn.

CAUTION: DOUBLE U-TURN AHEAD

This is a Double U-Turn. Teams may choose to U-turn any team they wish (well, the team has to be behind them), but they may only use the U-Turn once during the race. If a team is U-turned, they must go back to the Detour choices and complete the Detour that they did not complete. This U-Turn is doubled, meaning two teams may U-Turn two other teams.  Phil, during his explanation, does not say how many U-Turns there will be on this race.

1- Nicole/Travis choose to U-Turn Leo/Jamal

2- Jason/Amy choose not to U-Turn

3- Leo/Jamal have been U-Turned and cannot U-Turn

4- Tim/Marie choose to U-Turn Nicky/Kim – apparently because they are evil.  (Toyouke: “They didn't cut in front of you in line! They were smarter than you! ARGH  People U-Turn for the DUMBEST reasons.”)

5- Ally/Ashley cannot U-Turn

6- Nicky/Kim have been U-Turned

So now Leo/Jamal and Nicky/Kim return to do the other Detour choice. The Afghanimals return to the Detour choice that they had already Bald Snarked.  Teams get the U-Turn clue in the following order:

1- Nicole/Travis
2- Jason/Amy
3- Tim/Marie

4- Ally/Ashley  

5- Leo/Jamal

6- Nicky/Kim

Once they U-Turn (or are U-Turned) teams now find that they must travel to Wadi Adventure to get their next clue.  Teams arrive in the following order:

1- Nicole/Travis
2- Jason/Amy
3- Tim/Marie

4- Leo/Jamal  

5- Ally/Ashley

6- Nicky/Kim

When they get there, we find that Nicky and Kim have their Speed Bump.

SPEED BUMP:

A speed bump is a task that must be performed by the last place team on a non-elimination leg. Once they complete this task, they may return to the place where the speed bump occurred and continue the leg. In this speed bump, teams must swim from one side of a wave pool to the other.  The wave will regenerate every 90 seconds.

Teams complete the Speed Bump in the following order:

1- Nicky/Kim

After much wave dodging, they continue with the rest of the teams in getting the ninth roadblock clue.

ROADBLOCK:

Who likes rapid transit?

In this roadblock, roadblockers must navigate the world’s largest man made rapids course and collect three flags of different colors in order to get their next clue.

The following teammates take the Roadblock:

1- Nicole
2- Jason
3- Tim

4- Jamal

5- Ashley

6- Nicky

After much rapid rafting, teams complete the Roadblock in the following order:

1- Nicole/Travis
2- Jason/Amy
3- Tim/Marie

4- Leo/Jamal  

5- Ally/Ashley

6- Nicky/Kim

Teams find now that they must drive themselves to the Mercure Grand Hotel at Jebel Hafeet and the PIT STOP of the eighth leg of this racearoundtheworld.  The last team to arrive MAY be eliminated!

1- Nicole/Travis – who win two Ford vehicles of their choice, provided that both of them have Ecoboost.

2- Jason/Amy
3- Tim/Marie

4- Leo/Jamal

5- Ally/Ashley

6- Nicky/Kim

And Nicky and Kim are eliminated.  Finally
