TAR23, Recap Leg 11, 12/8/13

Welcome to Leg 11! Last time, on That Skin Tasted Snakish, teams raced around Indonesia some more.  Leo and Jamal managed to stay on top of the back until falling behind at the egg boiling Roadblock, and then Double Bald Snarking in the Detour.  This landed them with the last Speed Bump.   Who will be eliminated. . . next? Arrival at the pit stop last episode:

Clue: Fly to Tokyo, Japan!  Once there, make your way to Gotokuji temple to find your next clue.  Hope you like cats!

2:25 AM Tim/Marie (2nd)

2:26 AM Nicole/Travis  (3rd)

3:19 AM Leo/Jamal (4th) – Leo: “I love cats!”

Teams make their way to the travel agent to arrange flights in the following order:

1- Jason/Amy – who discover from their research that there is a 6:10 arrival that goes through Hong Kong and a 6:20 arrival that goes through Bangkok.  (Toyouke: “Why wouldn't you take the earlier flight? Is there a tight connection? Did I miss something?  I'm so confused right now.”)  The plan is to get Leo and Jamal out by forcing them to try and find the Hong Kong flight.  (Toyouke: “It's a little late to be planning to help other teams.  This plan seems too complicated. Just race.”)

4- Leo/Jamal

Teams arrive at the Bandung Airport in the following order:

1- Jason/Amy
2- Tim/Marie
3- Nicole/Travis

4- Leo/Jamal

All teams get on the flight to Singapore together.  Once there, Leo and Jamal discover the Hong Kong flight, and switch over, much to the confusion of the other teams.  Then the Amazing Blue and Teal Lines make their way to Tokyo and arrive in the following order:

1- Leo/Jamal  
2- Jason/Amy
3- Nicole/Travis

4- Tim/Marie

In an effort to stick together, the non-Afghanimal Teams call for a third cab, but then get caught when all the cabs want to stay together, since Marie has the only directions to the temple.  Teams now make their way to Gotokuji Temple and arrive in the following order:

1- Leo/Jamal  
2- Nicole/Travis
3- Tim/Marie

4- Jason/Amy

And we get the Detour Clue.

DETOUR:
Knock It Down OR Call It Up

*Knock It Down: Teams travel to Tokyo Media City and pick up four bowling pins on their way in.  Once they enter, they join the set of a Japanese game show called “Human Bowling”.  Teams get into uniform and use an inner tube to get a strike.  Once complete, the host will give teams the next clue.
*Call It Up:  Teams travel to Kinuta Park and find the installation of a piece of art that involves goldfish in an old phone booth.  One team member dresses in costume to dial a phone number underwater and then deliver the message to the teammate, who must repeat it back to the proctor (“Welcome to Tokyo.  Wasabi taberu!”) to get the next clue.

(Toyouke: “There is no point to those costumes other than making people look stupid so I am fully supportive.”)

1- Leo/Jamal choose Knock It Down  

2- Jason/Amy choose Call It Up
3- Nicole/Travis choose Call It Up

4- Tim/Marie choose Knock It Down – after a huge debacle with the taxis that all insisted on going to Kinuta Park together.  And then they comment on how it looks like Leo and Jamal weren’t at the Detour yet, since their clothes look fresh.  (Toyouke: “They refolded the boys' costumes just to fuck with everyone? Nice.”)

Teams complete the detour in the following order:

1- Leo/Jamal
2- Jason/Amy 
3- Nicole/Travis

4- Tim/Marie

Teams are now instructed to make their way to Shinjuku Chuo Keon Fountain to get their next clue.

When they get there, we find that Leo and Jamal have their Speed Bump.

SPEED BUMP:

A speed bump is a task that must be performed by the last place team on a non-elimination leg. Once they complete this task, they may return to the place where the speed bump occurred and continue the leg. In this speed bump, teams must participate in an escaped animal drill.  Once the animal is caught and subdued, teams may continue on the race.

(Toyouke: “I feel like I should be offended on behalf of Japanese people for this show making us look SUPER goofy. But I know the zoo thing is a real thing.”)

Teams complete the Speed Bump in the following order:

1- Leo/Jamal

After much rhino catching, they continue with the rest of the teams in getting the next clue in the following order:

1- Nicole/Travis
2- Jason/Amy
3- Leo/Jamal

4- Tim/Marie

And teams get the twelfth roadblock clue.

ROADBLOCK:

Put up or go home!

In this roadblock, roadblockers must use the provided pieces to build a robot based on a miniature model.  Once correctly completed, the proctor will give them their next clue.

(Toyouke: “Female engineer!”)

The following teammates take the Roadblock:

1- Nicole – who works with . . .
2- Amy – and manage to place the hips and shoulders in the wrong places.  (Toyouke: “Wait, not only are you helping each other but you are working together on ONE robot?  Why is everyone so dumb? RACE”)
3- Leo – who doesn’t realize he’s put the body on backwards.

4- Marie

After much robot construction, teams complete the Roadblock in the following order:

1- Tim/Marie
2- Jason/Amy
3- Nicole/Travis

4- Leo/Jamal

Teams are now instructed to travel to Shibuya Crossing and find the roaming vending machine to get their next clue.  They arrive in the following order:

1- Tim/Marie
2- Jason/Amy
3- Nicole/Travis

4- Leo/Jamal

Teams find now that they must travel on foot to the Konno Hachimangu Shrine and the PIT STOP of the eleventh leg of this racearoundtheworld.  The last team to arrive WILL be eliminated!

1- Tim/Marie – who win a trip for two to Aruba.

2- Jason/Amy
3- Nicole/Travis – (Toyouke: “I was such a fan of Nicole and Travis when we started. Now he's just an asshat.”)

4- Leo/Jamal

And Leo and Jamal find out that they are eliminated.  They’ve had fun though.  Good.
