Welcome to Leg 10! Last time,
on Hottubbing in Below
Freezing Temperatures Sounds Like Fun,
five teams raced from Namibia to the Netherlands. The Hairstylists fell behind at the
Roadblock. Hayley and Blair
bickered. Laura and Tyler got first
again. So blah blah blah business as
usual. And Matt and Ashley were last,
but not eliminated. Who will be eliminated. . . next? (click for more)

Date night? Nope. Just Hayley and Blair bickering. Because THAT’S what we truly care about. (Toyouke: “I don't need to watch Hayley again.”)
12:40 AM Laura/Tyler (1st)
Clue: Fly a third of the way
around the world to Trujillo, Peru! Once
there, take a taxi to the Plaza de Armas and participate in a fireworks
celebration. Make sure to monitor your
FitBit charge during this leg of the race.
Head to a travel agent to get your prereserved tickets for the flight,
but you may try to find a better flight.
You have $148 for this leg of the race.
1:07 AM Hayley/Blair (2nd)
1:20 AM Jelani/Jenny (3rd) – who are working on their
communication. Sure.
1:30 AM Mike/Rochelle (4th)
2:27 AM Matt/Ashley (5th)
Teams travel and arrive at the
travel agent in the following order:
1- Laura/Tyler – where we find out it is Laura’s birthday. (Toyouke: “Wait, did Laura and Tyler just blindly take the flight they were
given? SIGH”) So they go out and party.
2- Hayley/Blair – who actually check into better flights, and get
one, as do. . .
3- Jelani/Jenny
4- Mike/Rochelle
5- Matt/Ashley
Teams arrive at Schiphol
International Airport in the following order:
1- Hayley/Blair
2- Jelani/Jenny
3- Laura/Tyler
4- Mike/Rochelle
5- Matt/Ashley
Teams get on the following
flights:
Flight 1, arrives 10:40 PM
1) Hayley/Blair
2) Jelani/Jenny
Flight 2, arrives 9:40 AM
1) Laura/Tyler
2) Mike/Rochelle
3) Matt/Ashley
Teams now fly across the globe
to Trujillo and arrive in the following order:
1- Jelani/Jenny
2- Hayley/Blair
3- Laura/Tyler
4- Mike/Rochelle
5- Matt/Ashley
Teams now get their taxis to
take them to Plaza de Armas. They arrive
in the following order:
1- Jelani/Jenny
2- Hayley/Blair
3- Mike/Rochelle
4- Laura/Tyler
5- Matt/Ashley
Since the Lawyers and the Doctors got in the night before, they
participated in the fireworks display, and were given matchboxes with departure
times at 7 am. (Toyouke: “Not total bunching, but they did lose a good chunk of
their lead.“) So, fireworks, sleep,
arrival. And teams depart the Plaza de
Armas with their clue in the following order:
1- Jelani/Jenny
2- Hayley/Blair
3- Mike/Rochelle
4- Laura/Tyler
5- Matt/Ashley
Teams are now informed to
travel to the Plazuela de la Merced and find “a shine with the morning sun,”
which referred to the shoe shine stand.
Teams figure out the clue with varying success (Toyouke: “How do you miss the GIANT SPEED BUMP SIGN “) and
make their way to the shoe shine stand in the following order:
1- Jelani/Jenny
2- Hayley/Blair – (Toyouke: “This is Hayley: "I never yell" = "I yell all the time but
I want you to think this isn't my fault."”)
3- Mike/Rochelle
4- Laura/Tyler – Tyler: “Oh look, there’s llamas and typewriters,
that must be the Detour.”
5- Matt/Ashley
And once Matt and Ashley arrive
they find their Speed Bump. (Toyouke: “I thought the Speed Bump was going to be shining shoes.”)
SPEED BUMP:
A Speed Bump is a task that
must be performed by the last place team on a non-elimination leg. Once they
complete this task, they may return to the place where the Speed Bump occurred
and continue the leg. In this speed bump, teams must use a classic typewriter
and fill out a loan application for a llama.
Once both team members fill out their application, they can continue
with the leg.
Teams complete the Speed Bump
in the following order:
1- Matt/Ashley
After much typing, they go back
to the shoe shine station to find out that they and the rest of the teams need
to take a marked taxi toward Santo Domingo, and then Fundo San Fernando to
Cuartel Number 1 to get their next clue.
Teams arrive at the cuartel in the following order:
1- Jelani/Jenny – who pull the Date Night.
2- Hayley/Blair
3- Mike/Rochelle
4- Laura/Tyler
5- Matt/Ashley
And teams get the eighth
Roadblock clue.
ROADBLOCK:
Who wants to take charge in the
field?
In this roadblock, roadblockers
must dress in appropriate work clothes and clear a row of sugar cane with the
help of a sugar cane worker. Once
complete the worker will give them their next clue and a bundle of sugar cane.
The following teammates take
the Roadblock:
1- Jenny – “I take pilates classes back home. They should offer a sugar cane cutting
class.”
2- Hayley
3- Mike
4- Tyler
5- Matt
After much sugar cane
harvesting, teams finish the Roadblock in the following order:
1- Jelani/Jenny
2- Hayley/Blair
3- Laura/Tyler
4- Mike/Rochelle
5- Matt/Ashley
Teams are now instructed to take
their taxis to the Andes to the town of Otuzco and find Parque Ramon Castilla
to deliver the sugar cane. Teams must
also write down their FitBit calories and steps. Teams take care of that, drive to Otuzco, and
arrive in the following order:
1- Jelani/Jenny
2- Hayley/Blair
3- Laura/Tyler
4- Mike/Rochelle
5- Matt/Ashley
Teams are now instructed to add
the given numbers from the first nine legs to the data they just took from the
current leg, divide that by the total and get the steps that it would take to
work off a glass of sugar cane juice, which is freshly squeezed from the
delivered cane. Once the number is
correct, teams drink their sugar cane juice and get their next clue. (Toyouke: “This is a stupid complicated task, which is product placement and
obnoxious.”)
Teams finish their math and
juice and get their clue in the following order:
1- Jelani/Jenny
2- Hayley/Blair
3- Laura/Tyler
4- Mike/Rochelle
5- Matt/Ashley
And we get the Detour Clue.
DETOUR:
Mamas OR Papas
*Mamas: Teams travel to Mercado
Central to pick up a grocery list of nine items that they must find at five
shops and deliver them to La Señora de la Chicha, who makes Peruvian
moonshine. Once all the ingredients are
delivered, teams must share a glass of moonshine and get their next clue from
La Señora.
*Papas: Teams travel to a
potato field and pick up a mixture of four types. They must then return to Mercado Central and
deliver the potatoes sorted correctly.
Once complete, teams get their next clue.
(Toyouke: “OK let me just say that calling this Detour "Mamas
or Papas" when "papas" has nothing to do with fathers is
possibly the best Detour name in quite some time.”)
1- Jelani/Jenny choose Papas
2- Hayley/Blair choose Mamas
3- Laura/Tyler choose Papas – after they couldn’t find the shop with the
shopping list and their taxi driver took them to the field.
4- Mike/Rochelle choose Mamas
5- Matt/Ashley choose Papas –
for the same reason as Laura and Tyler.
(Toyouke: “Doesn't the clue tell them what
store the list is in? The other two teams didn't have any trouble.”)
Teams complete the detour in the following order:
1- Hayley/Blair
2- Jelani/Jenny
3- Mike/Rochelle
4- Laura/Tyler
5- Matt/Ashley
Teams are now instructed to
make their way on foot to the Statue of La Virgen de la Puerta in the Plaza de
Armas, the PIT STOP of the tenth leg of this racearoundtheworld. The last team to arrive may be
eliminated!
1- Hayley/Blair – who win a FitBit Fitness
Kit each.
2- Jelani/Jenny – (Toyouke: “Aww,
I was still holding out that Jenny and Jelani were going to get together. “)
3- Mike/Rochelle
4- Laura/Tyler
5- Matt/Ashley
And Matt and Ashley are the
last team to arrive. . . and are eliminated.
They say their relationship got better.
ORDER NOW:
1st – Hayley/Blair
2nd – Jelani/Jenny
3rd – Mike/Rochelle
4th – Laura/Tyler
Next episode: More Peru! Bricks!
Flats! Boats! (Toyouke: “I'd care more if you hadn't pulled that stuff last
season with all four teams surviving so this "fighting for a spot in the
finale" is a waste.”) Until
next time!
