TAR21, Recap Leg 12, 12/9/12

Welcome to Leg 12! Last time, on Evil Gays: Rainbows of Destruction!, teams raced from the Spain to the Loire Valley of France.  The Beekmans managed to keep their slight lead over the Twinnies due to their intelligence, and the necessity of the lacing of a corset.  So the Twinnies were eliminated.  And our final three!  Jaymes and James, the Chippendale dancers who are racing for their families, especially Jaymes’ dad and James’ mom; Josh and Brent, the goat farmers in a fourteen year relationship who have hit every eliminator possible and have still managed to hang on; and Trey and Lexi, whose relationship has grown by leaps and bounds throughout the race.  Who will win The Amazing Race 21? (click for more)

Clue: Make your way to your FINAL DESTINATION CITY: New York City, USA!  Once there, make your way to the Coney Island Boardwalk, and using the provided postcard, find the marked poster to get your next clue.

(Toyouke: “An actual clue. Nice.”)

1:44 AM Trey/Lexi (2nd)
3:06 AM Josh/Brent (3rd) – (Toyouke: “Uh oh. The Beekmans lived in New York. Josh still lives there. Hometown curse.”)

(Auburnium0513: “An hour and a half delay won't matter because they have to take a train to Paris before they can fly...”)

Teams take the train to Paris and arrive at the airport in the following order:

1- Jaymes/James
2- Trey/Lexi
3- Josh/Brent

The Amazing Red Line takes us across the Atlantic to New York City.  Teams arrive at JFK in the following order:

1- Jaymes/James
2- Trey/Lexi
3- Josh/Brent

Teams now grab cabs and head to Coney Island.  They arrive in the following order:

1- Jaymes/James
2- Trey/Lexi
3- Josh/Brent

Teams search for the clue, which the Amazing Cameraman has no problems finding.  Teams eventually find the clue on the poster in the following order:

1- Trey/Lexi
2-
Josh/Brent
3-
Jaymes/James

The clue instructs them to make their way to the Clinton Avenue Gate of the Brooklyn Navy Yard.  The poster advertises Houdini, who will probably be involved in the task in some way.  Teams arrive at the Brooklyn Navy Yard in the following order:

1- Trey/Lexi
2- Josh/Brent
3- Jaymes/James

Teams now get the thirteenth roadblock clue.

ROADBLOCK:
Who’s up for an Amazing Escape?

In this roadblock, roadblockers must perform a Houdini style escape by being hung upside down in a straightjacket.  Once team members completely escape from the straightjacket, they will be dropped in a fifteen story bungee fall to get their next clue.

(Toyouke: “Oh, that's not nice. You can't surprise people with a bungee jump.  Also, don't you escape from a straightjacket by dislocating a shoulder?”)

The following teammates take the Roadblock:

1- Trey
2- Brent
3- Jaymes

After much straightjacket escaping, teams complete the Roadblock in the following order:

1- Trey/Lexi
2- Josh/Brent
3- Jaymes/James

Teams are now instructed to make their way to the first pizzeria in New York, which teams must figure out is Lombardi’s in Little Italy.  Teams arrive in the following order:

1- Trey/Lexi
2- Josh/Brent
3- Jaymes/James

Teams are now instructed to choose a delivery route and deliver ten pizzas to three different locations on foot and from memory.  Once complete, the owner will give them their next clue.

Teams complete the task in the following order:

1- Trey/Lexi
2- Josh/Brent
– after accidently swapping two orders and having to go back.
3- Jaymes/James

Teams are now given a badge holder with the United Nations symbol.  Teams are supposed to figure out they need to travel to UN Headquarters.  (Auburnium0513: “How do you not know the symbol for the UN?”)  Teams then arrive in the following order:

1- Trey/Lexi – (Toyouke: “I was going to give Trey and Lexi some credit for being in the lead because they were smart enough to see the clue on the boardwalk. But then they don't know the symbol of the UN.”)
2- Josh/Brent
3- Jaymes/James

Teams now get the fourteenth and final roadblock clue.

ROADBLOCK:
Who has a way with words?

In this roadblock, roadblockers must complete the final task to get their clue.  The person that did not take the first roadblock of the leg MUST take this one.

FINAL TASK:

Teams find eight flag poles with the flags of each of the countries that they visited on the race.  Each leg, the greeter said “Hello” and “Goodbye” to the teams in their native tongue.  Roadblockers must remember which country goes with each phrase and hoist them up with the correct flag in order to get permission to hoist the UN flag, which will lower their next clue.  For reference, the eight countries and their phrases are:

China: Ni Hao and Zai Jian
Indonesia: Hai / Selanat Tingaal
Bangladesh: Shagotom / Anbar Dekka Hobe
Turkey: Merhaba / Hoscakal
Russia: Zdravstvrijtye / Do Sveidaniya
Netherlands: Hallo / Tot Ziens
Spain: Hola / Adios
France: Bonjour / Au Revoir

(Toyouke: “Oh, that's much easier than it appeared. You get a flag! Are there extra flags? Or is this just "I recognize that's Spain's flag so I know what the answer is"? Do you have to know the flags?”)

The following teammates take the Roadblock:

1- Lexi
2- Josh
3- James

After two and a half HOURS of flag hoisting, teams complete the Roadblock in the following order:

1- Josh/Brent
2- Jaymes/James
3- Trey/Lexi

(Toyouke: “Hey, guess what that means? YOUR ALLIANCE WAS STUPID AND WORTHLESS”)

Once teams get their clue, they learn they are on their way to Gotham Hall, the FINISH LINE of this racearoundtheworld.  The last team to arrive WILL win the Amazing Race!

1- Josh/Brent
2- Jaymes/James
3- Trey/Lexi

Three continents, 9 countries, 20 cities, 25000 miles, Josh and Brent, you are the winners of The Amazing Race 21!  That is probably one of the most unpredictable finishes ever. . . (Toyouke:I don't know if you won because "nice guys finish first", or whatever you said, Josh, but I'm pretty sure you won because you are vaguely better at languages and several legs involved people failing in a spectacular fashion. But whatever.”)

ORDER NOW:

2nd – Jaymes/James R.
3rd – Trey/Lexi
