Project Runway All Stars 6/14/23--"Meet the All-Stars" summary

It's season 20 of Project Runway! We are acting like the Lifetime All-Stars seasons didn't happen! I thought for a hot minute this was just going to be introducing the cast and reminding us of what they were like, and thank GOD I skipped ahead because over an hour into this 90 minute episode, they started sewing so now I gotta talk about it. (click for more)

We start with Korto entering the workroom. She is ready to win. Also they're doing like a Drag Race intro where everyone comes in one by one. She loves the new workroom, which is not the windowless room from Parsons. Kayne is next, do you remember Kayne? Wow. Korto interviews that she's newly separated, and do you remember the cute 4 year old who walked the runway with her? Yeah she's 18 and headed to college. She says she's going to try to reign in her cursing and they immediately cut to a clip from later in the season with her saying bullshit. I forgot she lost her All-Stars season too. Korto and Kayne talk about how they didn't have this flashy shit when they were here. Kayne interviews about his journey, and also his hair journey (hair plugs I guess). I remember Korto being great (and a breath of fresh air in an early season without as much diversity) and Kayne did pageants.

Anna is next. You will remember her from last season, she was the one who was in the car accident and it messed with her. Viktor, who walks in with a T-square for some reason. Korto says he's the shade queen. But he better not come for her. He was pretty good I think. Nora walks in and not a single person even looks at her. Nothing. Eventually she grabs a glass of champagne and Kayne comes around the corner and is like “where did you come from” and someone says “I thought you worked here”. Oof. They are suitably impressed she was on season 1. She had a mohawk and she was very young, and now she's married with kids and “normal”. She's a creative director and she no longer makes actual clothes which might be a problem.

Brittany from season 18 walks in and makes a scene. A small scene. Oh also Hester. Hester is what I call “aggressively quirky” and it can be annoying. I don't really remember Brittany, but I remember Hester just being weird and it felt like they were screaming “LOOK HOW WEIRD I AM” all the time. Prajje walks in and I love Prajje. He was the one that got in the argument with the one woman who told him it was unfair he didn't get a black model but when the Asian designer wanted her Asian model she had a tantrum about it, and Prajje called her out. Bishme walks in next. I did like Bishme too. It's fast and furious now.

Someone walks in very very slowly, and there is a lot of screaming and a commercial, and then it's Kara Saun. She's 55!?!?! This bitch (affectionate) looks 35 at best. She could have won I think but the shenanigans with getting free shoes for the finale really hurt her. She's thrilled to see Nora. Korto tells her she was inspired to be on her season because of her. I think all the African-American designers were inspired by her. In confessional she says her first job after the show was doing costuming. Now she does Disney's Descendants, which is really cool.

Bishme has an interview and the producer flirts with him and asks if he's going to distract people with his smile. He's working in LA dressing celebrities. He then says that his sister just passed away about a month ago, and he can't let her down. Anna says the night she was eliminated from her season, she got pregnant, because she and her husband had been apart and were “thirsty”. Heh. She uses a lot more color now. Prajje says he watched these people and wanted to join them. Last season he was a “volcano”. There's some yelling.

Laurence walks in. She's the model, and honestly I thought she just made clothes for herself and everyone loved it because she's a model. She's really been focusing on designing, and she's still not over coming in third. Hester wonders when they'll get a challenge. They interview that their aesthetic is “post apocalyptic non-binary party person who also wants to be incredibly comfortable and may need to fight some zombies later”. You see what I mean by “aggressively quirky”. They are ready for non-binary fashion on everything.

Mila walks in next, and I remember her just being competent. She says that after five years, she was burnt out and needed help. So she closed her business and worked in costume design. They're filming B-roll in her house and she's getting emotional about what might have been if she had not stopped designing. Fabio walks in next. I love Fabio. Brittany is terrified. He's been on two All-Stars seasons! Anna says in confessional she's not intimidated by anyone because they're old.

Rami is here. You remember Rami, he drapes everything. Mila immediately tells everyone she beat him in All-Stars. He roomed with Christian on his first season. Oh that will be fun. He respects Christian's success. There's a montage of people crying, as if we're shocked they would.

Christian and Nina walk in, to freak everyone out. Christian says hi to Rami (Viktor immediately says they're going to fight) and points out that Nina is the only person who has seen every one of them. They show a side-by-side of her first season and this woman never changes. Never. She looks exactly the same. They take everyone outside, so immediately everyone freaks out. Someone with the right priorities asks if they can bring their drinks. Brittany is getting so much screen time, you guys. It must mean something.

They end up on a rooftop with a view of the river. Kara Saun is remembering the feeling of not knowing what is about to happen. Christian tells them no one on this roof has ever won. Except for him of course. So this is your shot at redemption. It's a runway show with each of their losing outfits. Did they still have them? Remember they used to auction off the outfits, right? So did they recreate them? They look pretty close. It's either the look that you were eliminated on, or if you were in the finale it's your lowest score from the season. Some of these are really bad. Everyone is traumatized. Hester, of course, still stands behind this outfit. Fabio repressed this memory so it doesn't register as his. Korto says it's bad when no one wants to claim their own work. Hilariously Viktor went out on that challenge with the stilt-walkers and this poor girl has to wear stilts!

Anyway of course the challenge is to redeem this garbage. What would you have done differently? Korto says “not made this dress”. Heh. You don't have to use the same fabrics or silhouette, but the judges will compare the two looks so it can't be super different. Oh also there's a twist. Christian is very pleased with himself. But he doesn't say what it is, just that they have new models and sketching time now.

Next time: some drama, someone does poorly. My DVR decided stupid Andy Cohen is part of the episode so that's the end of that. I got fooled by the preview! Tomorrow is the actual sewing and challenge and runway.
