Welcome to Leg 9! Last time, on We Should Have Made That Left Turn at Albuquerque, 6 teams raced to Bridgetown, Barbados. Angie was very successful on the Roadblock, but then disobeyed a race rule which garnered her team a time penalty. Juan and Shane passed four teams at the Detour, landing them in second. Ricky and Cesar took first. Again. And Angie and Danny were eliminated. Who will be eliminated. . . next? (click for more)

Teams are transported by private plane via The Amazing Yellow Line from Barbados overnight to Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, where they will run the next leg. They depart from the Pit Start in fifteen-minute increments.

Clue: Welcome to Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic! Make your way through the jungle to find your next clue. You have 1500 Dominican Pesos for this leg of the race.

So teams run through the jungle and find the clue box in the following order:

When they rip open the clue, teams get the tenth roadblock.
ROADBLOCK:
Who can see the writing on the wall?
In this roadblock, one team member must run a caving course with waterfalls and spot 10 Taino petroglyphs along the way. They must recall them correctly and have a Taino native approve them in order to get their next clue.
(Toyouke: “This Roadblock seems pretty tedious and easy to screw up.”) The following teammates take the Roadblock:
1- Juan

3- Amber – (Toyouke: “Do you think Amber is left out because she happened to be so far behind? Or because the other teams want to get rid of her and Vinny?”)
4- Melissa

After much caving and petroglyph identifying, teams complete the Roadblock in the following order:
1- Ricky/Cesar
2- Juan/Shane
3- Rod/Leticia
4- Amber/Vinny
5- Yvonne/Melissa
Teams are now instructed to catch a ride with a local farmer and make their way to Don Manuel’s Finca de Cacao. Teams make their way to the cars and arrive in the following order:
1- Ricky/Cesar
2- Juan/Shane
3- Amber/Vinny
4- Rod/Leticia
5- Yvonne/Melissa
Teams now make their way to Don Manuel’s Finca de Cacao. Teams arrive in the following order:
1- Ricky/Cesar
2- Juan/Shane
3- Amber/Vinny
4- Rod/Leticia
5- Yvonne/Melissa
Teams open their clues and are instructed to use a traditional tool to cut down ripe cacao pods and harvest the seeds. Once they have enough seeds to cover a tarp, teams will get their next clue.
Much cacao harvesting ensues. So, teams get their clue in the following order:
1- Ricky/Cesar
2- Rod/Leticia
3- Juan/Shane
4- Amber/Vinny – Vinny: "I'm gonna climb babe" (Toyouke: “This is a terrible idea. It's one thing for Rod to just jump but climbing trees isn't as good of an idea.”)
5- Yvonne/Melissa
Teams are now instructed to return to their driver and make their way to Estadio Bartolo Colon to get their next clue. Teams arrive at the stadium clue box in the following order:
1- Ricky/Cesar
2- Rod/Leticia
3- Juan/Shane
4- Amber/Vinny
5- Yvonne/Melissa
When they rip open the clue, teams get the eleventh roadblock.
ROADBLOCK:
Who wants to play ball?
In this roadblock, one team member must join a training session and complete three drills: field a ground ball at second and throw it to first, catch a pop fly in center field, and play vitilla by using a broomstick to hit a bottlecap 25 feet. Once complete, former MLB pitcher Bartolo Colon will give them their next clue.
The following teammates take the Roadblock:
1- Ricky – who used to play little league.
2- Rod
3- Shane
4- Vinny – (Toyouke: “Amber's not helping her image as useless, they're at a baseball stadium and she played softball and she is "too nervous" to actually take a Roadblock.”)
5- Yvonne
After much baseball playing, teams complete the Roadblock in the following order:
1- Ricky/Cesar
2- Rod/Leticia
3- Juan/Shane
4- Amber/Vinny
5- Yvonne/Melissa
Teams are now instructed to take a taxi back into town and find Paseo de Doña Blanca and find their next clue. Teams arrive at the street in the following order:
1- Ricky/Cesar
2- Rod/Leticia
3- Juan/Shane
4- Amber/Vinny – (Toyouke: “So...the cab driver doesn't know where to go, which most of them didn't, and Amber's response is to get mad at Vinny? What?”)
5- Yvonne/Melissa
Teams are now instructed to travel by foot to Anfiteatro de Puerto Plata, the PIT STOP of the ninth leg of this racearoundtheworld. The last team to arrive WILL be eliminated!
1- Ricky/Cesar – who win Expedia One Key cash for a 5 day trip for 2 to Seoul, South Korea.
2- Rod/Leticia
3- Juan/Shane
4- Amber/Vinny
5- Yvonne/Melissa
And Yvonne and Melissa are eliminated. Melissa thinks that the race brought them closer together. In a post elimination clip, we are told that they did move in together, and welcomed their first child, Vivian Rose.
